Abstract

This paper is a comprehensive study of sufi epistemology through interpretations of natural phenomena. The study of the triagle causality relationship between God, humans, and nature can be a binocular for studying the sufistic epistemology globally. In sufistic studies, studying natural phenomena is one way to reach the essence of God. Whereas the existence of God can be studied through His signs. This paper uses an approach from a theological scholar, Patrick Masterson, who concusively found a new approach that accommodates esoteric and exoteric dimensions simultaneously. The author considers this approach feasible to use to understand the sufistic epistemology, especially those related to natural phenomena.

Abstract

The attention of researchers about Islam to Nusantara is largely related to the transmission of Islam to Nusantara. Meanwhile, attention to the role of vernacularization of Islamic sciences by Nusantara scholars - including attention to vernacularization of interpretive science - is still limited. This paper with the vernacular concept from A.H. Johns, focused on discussing the role of Jawi Tafsir in the Islamization of Nusantara in the early phases of both the formulation of Islamic Nusantara Islam and the socio-cultural transformation of Nusantara. This article?s frame of reference is in terms of the concepts of enculturation, adoption and cultural adaptation, in which vernacularization occurs in each of these processes. Through studies on the Jawi?s vernacular interpretation, Tarjum?n al-Mustaf?d, this paper argues that in the early scientific formulation of the Nusantara Islam that transformed the socio-cultural Nusantara, the existence of the Tarjum?n al-Mustaf?d had a major role. With another Jawi commentaries, Tarjum?n al-Mustaf?d then became the Nusantara's Islamic identity and proof of Islam with the archipelago's character.

Abstract

This research is a study of the mediatization of the ḥadīth on Dajjāl (the anti-Christ) in the context of media culture. Mediatization of the ḥadīth through illustrations allows every Muslim to understand the stages and events that will occur at the End of the Time (Ākhir al-Zamān). Such ḥadīth is pre-actual doctrinal texts in Islam. This article uses the theory of mediatization that has a close link with the discipline of media studies and religiosity. We argue that the ḥadīth illustration as an expression of religious beliefs is a continuation of the massive use of technology in understanding religious doctrines. On the other hand, the illustration of the ḥadīth. Ḥadīth on the Dajjāl in digital media has formed a new pattern in the understanding of ḥadīth from abstract-imaginative to concrete-imaginative. The illustration of the Dajjāl has become an indication of the widespread role of the media in the spread of Islamic doctrines, and its changing role from being dominated by the texts to being dominated by the logic of religion. This research uses the theory of mediatization with the approach of media culture. The data is obtained from footage of such ḥadīth documentary airing on YouTube accounts. These shows usually refer to preachers who are concerned with conveying the contents of the ḥadīth.

Abstract

Civilization of the Text: The Concept of Al-Quran Interpretation by Syed Naquib Al-Attas in Facing ModernizationSyed Nuqaib al-Attas projected a civilization rooted in the Quran and Hadith texts which were motivated by the massive secularization of values in Muslim countries by offering the concept of al-Quran interpretation. This paper aims to compile the concept of al-Attas Quranic interpretation, which is still scattered in some of his works, by building the structure of ideas and worldviews of the concept that the author calls metalinguistic interpretation. This paper uses an interpretive discourse analysis method. This method constructs the discourse by al-Attas ideas in his works, especially on two themes: 1) Islamic civilization and 2) the interpretation of the Quran. This article concludes that al-Attas offers cross-disciplinary knowledge that integrates the text of the Quran with other perspectives, namely: philosophy, intellectual tasawwuf, linguistics, and metaphysics. These cross-disciplines will produce an authoritative reading of the Quranic text and serve as a foundation to build a civilization facing modernity with various terminological offers, such as Ta'dib, din, ikhtiyar, and Islam. Furthermore, this position makes al-Attas different from several other figures such as Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd and Jamaluddin al-Afghani in the same discourse

Abstract

Abstract: The reality of pesantren that is identical with Kyai and masculinity is caused by a gender bias towards women's leadership. Women are deemed incapable of being communication leaders to mobilize Islamic Boarding school activities. Contrary to that, this article aims to prove that women's leadership communication patterns can positively impact pesantren activities, even though a female leader faces several problems at the Islamic boarding school. This article uses a descriptive qualitative method based on the leadership observation of Dra. Tiaman at the Ummul Masakin Islamic Boarding School, Jambi. This study also uses in-depth interview techniques and data documentation related to the themes: 1) Leadership, 2) Communication, and 3) Islamic boarding schools. The article reveals that the leadership of women in Islamic boarding schools can positively impact the development of the students' personality and the activities of the Islamic Boarding School because interpersonal communication patterns dominate the communication patterns that are built. Women have the power of wisdom to drive positive things and minimize negative things, such as conflicts or disharmony problems, especially in Islamic educational institutions such as Islamic boarding schools.
