Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine shifting of weeds species on upland previously planted with corn and treated with several organic matters. The experiment was conducted from August 2010 until January 2011, at Bakung Indralaya South Sumatera. Randomized complete block design was used with 7 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were types of organic matters applied, consisted of planted Mucuna bracteata, planted Vigna unguiculata, compost of M. bracteata, compost of corn stalk, buried corn stalk, cow manure, and fallow. The plot size was 5 m x 20 m with 5 sampling plots. The sampling plot size was 1 m x 1 m each. The results showed that there were change in weeds composition after organic matter treatments. There were 18 species of weeds before treatments which were dominated by Panicum maximum, Eleusine indica, and Borreria laevis. After the organic matter treatments there were 22 weeds species, which classified into 17 genus and 11 families, floristically. The main weeds were Richardia brasiliensis, Borreria alata, and Eleusine indica. The weeds diversity index was less to medium with the point of 1.33 to 1.85. The community coefficient between before and after organic matter treatment was < 30% , while the average of communities coefficient between organic matter treatments above 75%.Keywords: diversity, organic matter, shifting species, weeds

Bernas SM, Fitriana M, Wijaya A, Fitri SNA. 2020. Effect of the seedling age and compost to the growth of palm date lulu (Phoenix Dactylifera L.) nursery and investigation of female seedling. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal : Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(2): 199-207.Indonesia imported very high amount of date palm fruits about 9.99 million kg or US$ 13.18 M, because of that it is necessary to develop a research about date palm seedling nursery and investigation of female date, since this is a dioecious plant. The aim of this investigation was to find out characteristics of female date seedling and the effects of seedling age and compost on seedling growth. There were 2 steps in this research: the first was application of compost on seedling (without and plus compost treatments) and the age of seedling (15 and 30 days old) for transplanting into polybag, the growth ability of plant was monitored. The second step was transplanting seedling at 30 days old into pan for investigation female date, which 20 seedlings were planted in one pan and replicated 3 times.  Results showed that compost increased roots and leaves growth on seedling.  Transplanted at 30 days old seedling had the ability to grow about 95% compared to 15 days old was only 45%. It was found that female seedling was about 25% and the rest (75%) was male or sterile. It is needed further investigation on growing female seedling in the field and can it produce fruit.

Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).  Liquid organic fertilizer is the result of overhaul or decomposition of organic matter, can come from animals or plants. Liquid organic fertilizer is made from damaged or rotten fruit and skin fruit (bananas, papayas, pineapples and  a mixture of all three). So far, the hydroponic system uses inorganic nutrients or fertilizers (for example AB mix). This study aims to find out the effect of liquid organic fertilizers (POC) on the growth and yield of leaf vegetables (kale, spinach and caisim).This research used a hydroponic system, carried out from July to September 2021. This study used completely randomized design, with 8 treatments and 4 replications? The treatments were A = AB mix, B = liquid organic fertilizer from bananas, C = liquid organic fertilizer from pineapples, D = liquid organic fertilizer from papaya, E = liquid organic fertilizer from bananas and pineapples, F = liquid organic fertilizer from bananas and papayas, G = liquid organic fertilizer from pineapple and papayas, H = liquid organic fertilizer from bananas, pineapples and papayas. The results showed that liquid organic fertilizer had not been able to replace the AB mix solution, but there was hope liquid organic fertilizer could replace AB mix solution although the growth of spinach plants given POC leftover papaya fruit and POC fruit mixture (Pineapple + Papaya) shows growth, while caisim and kale plants show better growth than spinach plants. The remaining POC of pineapple fruit encourages the growth of caisim plants while poc of papaya fruit remains encourage the growth of kale plants.
