Abstract

The condition of railroads is the main determinant of train safety. The recent railroads inspection conducted by the mechanic results inaccurate inspection and it cannot be conducted continuously. Therefore, this research develops the inspection by using Image Processing Method. Image processing facilitates and accelerates the measurement of railroads quality. This technique enables the automation of railroads measurement in continuous and faster process. It is as the inspection needs no direct measurement. The image processing conducted in this research uses edge detection method with filter disk 12. For collecting data, this research uses laser line and camera to capture figure of the railroads. Furthermore, the figure data is analyzed by using Matlab software. Output of image processing is graphic of the railroads surface that is analyzed to obtain its quality from its flatness. Result of railroads surface measurement by using image processing is averagely 3.61311 mm height and 55.6000 mm width. It is validated with manual measurement by the result of average height is 3.63 mm and average width is 5.5385 mm. The normal flatness of railroads by using image processing is 0.4488 mm. Inspection by using image processing is feasible as the alternative for substituting the manual process previously conducted.

Abstract

The development of science, technology and patient demands regarding restorative materials that are colored with teeth is currently higher. Dental-colored restoration materials are widely used, one of which is nanohybrid composite resin. The nanohybrid composite resin has a small and fine particle size of 0.04 um. Nanohybrid composite resins have many advantages, but they also have the disadvantage of liquid absorption properties which can cause discoloration. One of the liquids that cause discoloration is cuko pempek. Objective: To find out the surface color changes of nanohybrid composite resin after immersion in cuko pempek. Methods, an experimental laboratory study with a pre and post test only group design study design. Sample 16 pieces of nanohybrid composite resin measuring 10 x 2 mm. The sample was immersed using pempek cuko as much as 5 ml with a temperature of 37oC for 7 days. Color change is measured with a spechtrophotometer (UV-2401 PC). Results, there was a change in the surface color of nanohybrid composite resin soaked with pempek cuko which marked an average increase in dE*ab before immersion (18.5925) and after immersion (23.3169) with a difference of 4.7844. The paired t test results also showed a significant color change that is p = 0,000 (p <0.05). Conclusion, there is a change in the surface color of the post-immersion nanohybrid composite resin in pempek cuko.

Abstract

Pregnant women are highly vulnerable to malaria infection in its endemic areas, particularly infection by Plasmodium falciparum that can cause premature, low birth weight, severe anemia in pregnant women, and death. Sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) for Intermittent Preventive Treatment for pregnant (IPTp) is used for malaria control in pregnancy recommended by the World Health Organization that has already been implemented in Africa. The P. falciparum resistance to SP has been reported in several malarial endemic areas, and mutations in the genes of Plasmodium falciparum Dihydrofolate Reductase (Pfdhfr) and Dihydropteroate Synthase (Pfdhps) are shown to be associated with parasite resistance to SP treatment. Genetic analysis of Pfdhfr and Pfdhps genes in pregnant women infected with P. falciparum has not yet been examined in Indonesia. The cross-sectional study was conducted at two subdistricts, Sungai Pinang and Peramasan, in Banjar district of South Kalimantan Province, where 127 pregnant women were recruited from 2008 to April 2010. Two important mutations in Pfdhfr gene (amino acid positions at N51 and S108) and three in Pfdhps gene (A437, K540 and A581) were analyzed by nested PCR-RFLP method. All of the seven pregnant women samples infected with P. falciparum presented PfDHFR 108N and PfDHPS 437G mutations. One of the samples had the additional mutation at PfDHPS 540, in which Lys is substituted by Glu. These results suggested that P. falciparum might present only some resistance to SP at Sungai Pinang and Peramasan subdistricts, Banjar District, South Kalimantan province, Indonesia. Although there were limited number of samples, this study showed only few mutations of Pfdhfr and Pfdhps genes in P. falciparum at Banjar district, South Kalimantan Province, that suggests SP might be effective for IPTp in this area. Thus, further analysis of the other mutation sites in Pfdhfr and Pfdhps genes and in vivo efficacy study of SP with more sufficient sample numbers will be necessary to confirm this preliminarily result. Keywords: PfDHFR and PfDHPS genes, Pregnant women, Falciparum malaria
