This research purposed to study biology of Helopeltis sp. on cocoa and cucumber fruits. Research was done in insect bioecology laboratory using direct observation with 10 replications for each fruit. Parameter observed were copulation (hours), preoviposition time (days), number of eggs, nymphals, and adult periods (days), Oviposition time (days), and post oviposition time (days). The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and compared with t-test. Result of this research showed that Helopeltis sp. could thrive in cacao and cucumber fruits. Adult of Helopeltis sp. longevity in cacao fruits was 16 days and in cucumber fruits was 13 days. The number of eggs product average 10-10.9 eggs/female.

Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii is the pathogen causing stewart’s wilt disease in maize. The occurrence of the disease was recently reported in Indonesia with limited information. Research was conducted to characterize several isolates of P. stewartii subsp. stewartii isolated from maize plants collected from 6 districts in West Sumatra. Leaves showing yellow stripes symptoms along the vein was ground and suspeneded then the bacteria was isolated and incubated for 3 × 24 h at room temperature in nutrient glucose agar (NGA). Pure bacterial colonies gained from this medium was used for characterization. Assessment of bacterial characters was conducted based on morphological assay, physiological assay, biological assay (hypersensitivity, and pathogenicity) followed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based identification. Unique characters of the family Enterobacteriaceae was observed on 7 isolates based on morphological and physiological characters, and only 4 isolates (PR1, PP, ST1, LA) gave positive reaction on hypersensitivity and pathogenicity test. Further molecular identification confirmed 3 out of 7 isolates had high homology to Pantoea stewartii, i.e. Pantoea stewartii strain R1-104, R1-132, and ATCC 29923 for isolates LA, PR1, and PR2, respectively.

Corn is one of Indonesia's agricultural products with economical and strategic value and many potential to develop, such as carbohydrates and protein sources. There are two types of beneficial insects in corn production: predators and parasitoids. This study aims to identify the diversity of beneficial insects in corn plantations. This study was conducted from May to September 2019 in four different locations across West Sumatra, namely Padang Pariaman, West Pasaman, Pesisir Selatan, Solok Regencies. Identification of beneficial insects was made in Entomology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. This study adopted a purposive sampling method using 20 sweeps of sweep nets, following a transect line of cornfields. The result showed five orders, 34 families, 101 morphospecies, and 747 beneficial insects in all locations. The diversity in each location varies from high, medium, and low. In all areas, the diversity index was high, with the criteria of ≥ 2.90, implying that the condition of the community structure was very stable. From the evenness index analysis, three locations were classified as high, and the other one was moderate. These three sites were Padang Pariaman, West Pasaman, and Solok, with criteria of ≥ 0.90 and very stable distribution conditions.

Training on methods of pests and diseases management in cocoa plants has been conducted in the Nagari Campago, Kecamatan V Koto Kampung Padang Pariaman. The aims of this activity was to empower farmer groups through increasing the knowledge of cocoa farmers about cultivation and pests and diseases management attacked of cocoa plant, this activity consists of socialization, counseling and field practice. Evaluations carried out before and after training related to farmers' knowledge about cultivation and pests and diseases in cocoa. The results of the activity show that: (a) the level of pests and diseases in cocoa plantations in this area is quite high (55% dan 65%), (b) farmers have not good cultivated on cocoa, (c) farmers do not understand abaut pests and diseases that attack their cocoa and do not understand the methods for controlling pests and diseases. This activity has increased farmers' knowledge about the cultivation and management of pests and diseases in cocoa plants.

Activity of use management technologogy for pest and plant disease control on vegetables based environment friendly in nagariPaninjauan Kabupaten Tanah Datar has been carried out from June toNovember 2014. This activity aims to improve farmers knowledgeabout the diseases attack of vegetables and know how to manage thedisease using biopesticide and botanic biopesticide, These activities include: Counseling and training, andevaluation. Results of monitoring the level of disease in vegetable cropsis known that those plants attacked by pest and pathogens e.i, soft rot (cabbage), anthracnosa, bacterial wilt and leaf spot (chili), tuber rot (carrots) and bacterial leaf blight and Alternaria spots (onion leaves).Attack rate ranged between 16 – 20% for disease and 15 – 30% for pest.From the activities can be take several conclusions: (1) Extent of diseasein vegetable crops in this area is high, (2) The farmers do not yetunderstand the causes of pest and plant disease ( pathogens) that attacktheir vegetable crops, (3) The farmers do not understand the methods ofdisease control using biopesticide and botanic biopesticide, (4) Theextension and field practice, have improved farmers' knowledge aboutthe management of vegetable diseases using biopesticides and botanicbiopesticide
