Abstract

The study aims to get the effect of the mind mapping on students descriptive writing ability and the process of mind mapping implementation in writing descriptive learning. The research study is qualitative and quantitative research through action research method. The sample was taken by 34 students. The validity of data used credibility, transferability, dependability, and conformability. The process of collecting data used test, observation, and interview. The researcher used Independent sample t-test to analyze the differences of students’ ability before and after using mind mapping. The finding of analysis that mind mapping implementation has increase the students’ motivation of descriptive writing learning. They can make a good imagination in writing. The t-test result is t-stat (5.38) > t-table (1.99). It means that there is a significant difference was found in descriptive writing ability before and after using mind mapping.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to get more in-depth implementation of movie scripts to increase vocabulary in reading classes. Vocabulary has a important role in understanding the contents of the reading text. The research method uses action research. So that, data analysis techniques use qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. The sample is taken as many as 25 students. The process of collecting data uses tests, observations, and interviews. The results showed that the vocabulary of students before and after using movie scripts was different. The average score of the student vocabulary test in the reading class showed a significant difference. The average of pre-test result is 56.2 and the post-test is 81.87

Abstract

This study aimed at describing how content-based reading instruction on students? reading comprehension. The method used in this current research was a classroom action research. The participants were taken from an EFL classroom of a private madrasah in Narmada. Process of collecting data was taken using test and observation. Teacher and students? worksheets were the qualitative data collection instrument to assess the reading instruction process. Meanwhile, the test used TOEFL to measure students? reading comprehension. The research findings show that reading instruction achieved 71.42% in Cycle I  and 94.46% in Cycle II. The students? learning outcome shows 38.89% (Cycle I), and 83.34% (Cycle II). It means that there is a significant improvement of the reading comprehension from cycle I to cycle II. In addition, the students were active, enthusiastic, and participated in reading instruction using CBI.

Abstract

Technology has become an unavoidable part of education and must be used. The purpose of this study was to obtain the need for digital learning media for reading comprehension English classes. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that was conducted using a survey method. The participants were students (38 boys and 22 girls) and 2 teachers. Data collection techniques are documents, observations, interviews, and questionnaires. Data analysis consists of three steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. Furthermore, the data analysis technique used expert judgment. The results of the study concluded that digital learning media had not been used comprehensively by teachers and students during online teaching and learning activities. From the results of data analysis, the digital learning media needed varies according to the function or role. For online discussion activities, you can use the zoom or google meet. Delivering material and assignments are LMS, google classroom, social media, reading sources are learning websites and electronic textbooks, exercises using online or manual, and communication processes using WA groups.

Abstract

Material is the main needs for the teaching and learning process. Advanced technology has influenced the paradigm of material presenting. This study was to identify material needs for English extensive reading course in the digital era. The study used a qualitative approach through the descriptive qualitative method. Data is taken from observation, interview, and questionnaire. Data validity used triangulation and analysis data used data reduction, data display, and taking conclusion. The findings concluded that the need 0f teaching materials for learning extensive reading in English must be under the curriculum so that students can answer global challenges, the industry, technological developments, and changes in human life that continue to develop. The presentation of the material is also directed at implementing digital facilities that are easily accessible to students. The results of the study also have implications for exploring the ability to read digital sources and variations of material according to student needs or globalization competition.

Abstract

The study was done to get the depth information from the practical use of online comic manga in building students’ English reading engagement. It creates the enjoy time to read and students get the meaningful activity in each reading process. The method used the one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The data collected through observation, documentation and reading test. While data analysis used the t-test paired two samples for means. The resulting shows that t-stat (9.2934) t-table (2.0484), It means that reading online comic manga gave the fun activity at online class or home. The implication of the study was on the reading source learning to create enjoy and comfort learning.

Abstract

Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui lebih mendalam tentang pengaruh peran orang tua terhadap pembentukan sosial emosi anak-anak usia dini. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah para orang tua (ayah dan ibu) serta anak-anak yang duduk di bangku sekolah taman kanak- kanak di Kecamatan Ampenan. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, yang meneliti tentang fenomena sosial. Proses pengumpulan data menggunakan angket, observasi, dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data menggunakan credibility, transferability, dependability, danconformability serta uji pakar psikologi anak. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang sangat signifikan peran orang tua terhadap pembentukan kepribadian dan sosial emosional anak-anak, yang berdampak pada kesuksesan dan kepribadian anak di masa dewasa.

Abstract

Pemerolehan bahasa menjadi kajian menarik tentang cara orang memperoleh bahasa pertama ataupun bahasa kedua. Individu memperoleh kecakapan bahasa bukan karena kelahirannya semata melainkan karena perkembangan dan pengalaman hidupnya. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui lebih mendalam tentang konsep teori keterkaitan pemerolehan bahasa dan bakat bahasa. Kajian dalam penelitian ini difokuskan pada kontroversi antara nurture dan nature. Teori ini menggambarkan pemerolehan bahasa yang diperoleh secara alami dan proses pembentukan. Bakat bahasa memiliki fase yang berbeda dalam proses pemerolehan bahasa.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of PQ4R strategy on reading learning at English Study Program Universitas Islam Negeri Mataram. The research was used action research method. The sampling was taken by 34 students. The validity of data used credibility, transferability, dependability, and conformability. Reading comprehension ability achievement questions prepared by the researcher. It was used as the data collecting tool. These questions were implemented to both groups before the experiment. Independent sample t-test was used for data analysis. The result of the study that t-test result is t-stat (5.38) > t-table (1.99). It means that there is a significant difference was found in reading comprehension learning

Abstract

The aim of this study is to get the quality of the English textbook for Junior High School that was designed by the government. Is it appropriate with the students and context needs? Method of research is the evaluation method through content analysis. Model of evaluation is Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM) to know suitability or unsuitability of textbook using criteria of evaluation. The instrument of assessment has 8 criteria, namely goals, approach, language content, skills, topics, methodology, teacher’s book, and practical consideration. Validation of instrument is judgment expert. The result of research found that the English textbook “Bahasa Inggris Think Globally Act Locally Class IX” has a good quality. It can be seen from the percentage of criteria, such as goals 80.8%, approach 82,8%, language content 81%, skills 81,3%, topics 87%, methodology 78.8%, teacher’s book 56.8%, and practical consideration 82.3%.
