Abstract

This research was conducted to develop a learning model by using the ADDIE model. The problem-Based STAD learning model was designed by Analysis, Design, Development or Production, Implementation or Delivery, and Evaluations. This research was done in the English Language Education Study Program of the University of Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai in Writing II. Based on the result of data analysis, it can be concluded that 1) The Problem-based STAD Type Learning Model has been produced through the ADDIE development model. 2) Problem-based STAD Type Learning Model that has met the criteria of validity. 3) The model is valid with the characteristics of the suitability of the research model development with the ADDIE procedure. English teachers can use this model to improve students’ skills in writing and motivate the students in writing English text.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis kemampuan komunikasi matematis peserta didik Bangkinang dalam menyelesaikan soal PISA 2015. Indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang dilihat yaitu kemampuan menulis, meggambar, dan mampu membuat ekspresi matematis. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskripsi kualitatif yaitu menggambarkan mengenai kemampuan komunikasi yang dimiliki peserta didik Bangkinang dalam menyelesaikan soal PISA 2015. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa soal PISA 2015 paket 1. Peserta didik masih kesulitan dalam membuat model matematika dari permasalahan yang diberikan, memilih strategi yang tepat guna memecahkan permasalahan yang diberikan, diikuti dengan rendahnya kemampuan peserta didik merefleksikan grafik ke dalam ide matematika yang mana termasuk kategori drawing. Ringkasan dari analisis ketujuh soal PISA 2015 yang dikategorikan soal Komunikasi Matematis yaitu (1) Written Text, Pada soal nomor 15; 10,26% peserta didik berkemampuan tinggi; 2,56% berkemampuan sedang; dan 87,18% berkemampuan rendah. (2) Mathematical Expression, Pada soal nomor 12; 15,38% peserta didik berkemampuan tinggi; 15,38 peserta didik berkemampuan sedang; dan 69,24% berkemampuan rendah. (3) Drawing, Pada soal nomor 30; 82,05% peserta didik berkemampuan tinggi; dan 17,94% berkemampuan rendah. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilaksanakan pada 39 peserta didik, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis peserta didik SMP di Bangkinang melalui penyelesaian soal PISA 2015 masih rendah pada kategori Mathematical Expression.

Abstract

Pada saat masa Covid-  19 ini guru- guru diharapkan belajar dengan menggunakan aplikasi yaitu online dengan menggunakan aplikasi zoom untuk memudahkan bagi siswa- siswi yang belajar dirumah dan mudah pula didampingi oleh orang tua mereka masing- masing.  Dalam keterbatasan bagi guru untuk memberikan pembelajaran melalui Online atau daring sangat sulit dikarenakan sehingga kurang maksimal dalam mencapai hasil yang ingin dicapai. Guru diarah dengan menggunakan aplika zoom agar siswa- siswi tidak ketinggalan dalam pembelajarannya di Masa Covid- 19 ini di Sekolah Dasar Pahlawan Desa Ridan Permai Bangkinang.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis peserta didik Bangkinang dalam menyelesaikan soal PISA 2015. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan yaitu penelitian kualitatif. Instrument yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah tes berupa soal PISA 2015, pedoman wawancara yang sifatnya terbuka, dan nilai peserta didik. Teknik analisis data yang dilaksanakan yaitu mereduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi data atau penarikan kesimpulan dari data yang dimiliki. Berdasarkan analisis data dari soal PISA 2015 yang dikategorikan soal representasi matematis yaitu soal nomor 10, 11, 14, 16, 25, 31, 38, dan 39 diperoleh beberapa informasi. Kemampuan representasi visual dari penyajian tabel, peserta didik sudah mampu menyajikan kembali data atau informasi dari suatu tabel menjadi bentuk lain seperti pola barisan. Pada representasi ini terdapat bermacam bentuk atau pola yang diberikan sehingga menunjukkan kemampuan representasi visual yang baik. Kemampuan representasi visual gambar dimana peserta didik membuat gambar bagian-bagian geometri untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan dan memfasilitasi penyelesaian masalah. Kemampuan representasi simbolik atau persamaan atau ekspresi matematika yang dimiliki peserta didik sudah dimiliki hampir sebagian peserta didik. Berdasarkan analisis lembar jawaban pada soal yang dikategorikan representasi verbal diperoleh kemampuan verbal (kata-kata atau teks tertulis) yang dimiliki sebagai besar peserta didik sudah baik. Peserta didik tersebut sudah mampu menuliskan langkah-langkah penyelesaian dengan baik dan teratur. Berdasarkan analisis lembar jawaban peserta didik, diketahui pada soal yang juga dikategorikan soal pemecahan masalah peserta didik mengalami kesulitan dalam membuat situasi masalah berdasarkan data atau representasi yang diberikan serta membuat persamaan atau model matematis dari representasi yang diberikan

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the predict observe explain learning model to students' understanding of science concepts in elementary schools. The research method used is descriptive research method with meta-analysis technique, with steps of data collection, data reduction, data display, discussion, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that of the 32 articles discussing the application of the predict observe explain learning model and the understanding of students' science concepts in elementary schools published in accredited journals in the last 10 years, only 4 articles were found that discussed both (the application of the predict observe explain learning model to understanding the concept science students in elementary school). The conclusion of this study is that the application of the predict observe explain learning model to students' understanding of science concepts in elementary schools is very rarely done. The steps of the predict observe explain learning model that are applied are different from one another. Likewise, the aspects of understanding the concepts studied differ from one another. Continuous assistance is needed for elementary school teachers to be able to implement the steps of the predict observe explain and explain learning model and aspects of understanding concepts that are in accordance with the original theory

Abstract

The problems of this research were how to improve vocabulary using comic and how to motivate the students to apply it in their d English. The research was guided by a conceptual framework leading to the using comic through peer work to improve their motivation to speak English during the process of classroom communication interaction. The research type was an action research. The subject consisted of 20 students of the third special class of SMA 1 in Rumbio jaya . The research data were collected using test (test after first treatment and test after the second treatment), observation for collecting data on the students’ motivation in improving vocabulary ability using series pictures. Data on vocabulary ability using comic were analyzed using the descriptive and statistic analysis, to know the improvement in mean students after the first cycle and the second cycle. Based on the first cycle, the students’ average was 67.8, then, on the second treatment, the students’ average increase to be 78.8. It can conclude that teaching vocabulary using comic can improve students’ vocabulary ability.

Abstract

This study discussed about using Pictionary game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery to the third grade students of SDN 022 Rumbio. The data were gathered from classroom observations and interview. The analysis showed how Pictionary game gave an improvement in pronouncing, knowing and memorizing words. It provided opportunities for students to improve the vocabulary mastery as well as motivation to help the teacher managing classroom interaction. It also enabled the students to experience the vocabulary; they made noticeable progress in their vocabulary learning, gaining the confidence to pronounce word in pronouncing. In short, this study showed that Pictionary game promoted students active participation in the activities with more opportunities to improve their vocabulary through practice which in turn increased their positive attitude for language learning.

Abstract

This research tried to find and implement actual actions to improve the quality of reading learning process for the first year students of SMAN I Kuok. The research involved the school principal, the English teacher, the researcher, and the students of SMAN I Kuok; especially the students of class X-2 of SMAN I Kuok in the academic year of 2010/2011. They consisted of 31 students, 9 males and 22 females. The students were happy and enjoyed reading using this technique. They liked to have discussions with their friends. By having discussions, the students were able to have better understanding on reading texts than before. Their cooperation was also getting better. It implies that the English teacher can use the jigsaw technique in the teaching and learning process of reading. The students should use this technique more often in order to get better understanding to comprehend the text and better cooperation with their mates.

Abstract

The effective teaching strategy in writing class must be considered to get the best students’ writing. The aims of this research is to investigate the teachers’ teaching writing strategis in Writing class at English Language and Education Department of University of Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. This qualitative descriptive research used interviews in collecting data. This research uses a descriptive analysis which means that this study analyzes the strategy used by English teacher in teaching writing. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data analysis inductively building from particulars to general themes, and the researcher making interpretations of the meaning of the data with a teacher as the subject of the research. This research used in-depth analytical techniques (in-depth analysis), which is reviewing the problem in case of cases. The result shows that the strategy used by the teacher, namely charts. Charts is a suitable strategy to use in teaching writing, because the strategy is designed as attractive as possible, simple, and effective so that students are interested in the material presented by the teacher. It can be used in teaching writing skill because Charts also provide a summary of the important points of the material in writing.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether there is an effect on using Story completion technique towards the students’ speaking skill in online class, in academic year 2019/2020. This research is quasi-experimental research that carried out at first grade students of SMA N 1 SALO. In taking the sample, the researcher used cluster sampling technique. It involved 43 students of two classes, XI IPA 1 as experimental class and XI IPA 2 as control class. Each class consisted of 21 students and 22 students. The experimental class was taught by using Story completion technique while control class was taught by using teacher’s method. The data were analyzed by using T-test formula. Based on the result findings, it can be concluded that the use of Story completion technique in teaching speaking skill in online class is effective. Therefore, it is recommended that Story completion can be implemented as one of the effective teaching technique for the teacher to teach speaking skill and for the future researcher can use the same kind of the research with different sample and condition.
