The mental model categories reviewed in this study include scientific, synthetic, and initial. This study's method was descriptive quantitative method, with research subjects 40 primary teachers and 40 pre-service primary teachers. This study's instrument is a conceptual understanding test consisting of three parts of a statement that asks for an explanation and description. The results showed that in understanding concepts test in synthetic mental models, 32.5%. In the category of initial mental models, there is a comparison of 32.5%. While in the concept of convection, there is a comparison of 2.5% in the scientific category. For synthetic mental models' category is 5%. In the category of initial mental models is 7.5%. For the concept of radiation, there is no comparison in the category of scientific mental models. Next there is a comparison of 7.5% in the category of synthetic mental models. In the category of initial mental models is 7.5%. Generally, elementary school teachers and students are in synthetic mental models and the initial mental models' category.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low problem-solving abilities, mathematical disposition, and learning motivation of junior students. This study aims to find and analyze the influence of mathematical dispositions empirically and learning motivation on problem-solving abilities. Samples were obtained in class VII-2 at SMPN 2 Cimahi as many as 34 students.  The study uses quantitative correlational methods. The analysis was done by a regression method. The data collection was given two pieces of study instruments, namely problem-solving test instruments and non-test questionnaires in a set of mathematical dispositions and learning motivation. The data were tested for regression and correlation. The results of data analysis that was a mathematical disposition and learning motivation were significantly influenced by the problem-solving ability of junior students, with the regression equation Y = 1.95 + 0.121X1 + 0.015X2 indicating a positive influence, and the degree of closeness is the Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.827 classified in a robust positive interpretation. Together, mathematical disposition variables and learning motivation variables can determine the problem-solving variable by 68.3%. Recommendations from this study, teachers should design learning processes that can improve mathematical disposition and student motivation so that students' problem-solving abilities increase.

Abstract

Dynamic learning software is an auxiliary tool to help students understand the mathematical operation process. Sometimes the calculation methods of textbooks are dull and boring, an innovative teaching medium is needed to assist teaching. This research aims to create a learning medium to improve students' ability to learn rational arithmetic. The learning process will use hawgent dynamic mathematics software as the mathematics learning medium. This research designed in conjunction with the four steps of solving problems in Polya. This study involved 30 junior high school students as the research subject. The tools used in this study are cognitive tests, interviews and observations. The research results show that the use of hawgent dynamic mathematics software can improve the students' ability to operate rational numbers. This means that the realization of hawgent dynamic mathematics software in the process of mathematics learning is successful. Students are more active and enthusiastic in the classroom. In short, the development of hawgent dynamic mathematics software can improve students' rational number operation ability, because with the help of hawgent, students will increase their motivation to learn.

Abstract

Students’ proof construction is one of the important abilities in learning mathematical knowledge. To understand the development of Students’ proof construction of the fourth-grade students in Guilin, 15 fourth-grade students were selected to conduct an exploration activity about the sum of the inner angles of a triangle is equal to 180°. Through the observation and interview with students in the activities, we conclude that the reasonable ability of excellent students has coherence and integrity, the middle level students’ proof construction is ordinary and still need to improve, and the Low Students’ proof construction students are weak, and it is difficult to understand the research object. The teacher must have a creative and interesting method to teach students to improve Students’ proof construction from the research process and results.

Abstract

Efforts to developing the quality of education is empowering educators. Positive activities that accommodate teachers to improve the quality of education are the activities of the Community of Practice (CoP). Community of Practice (CoP) or KKG in Indonesia Context is a forum for professional development for primary school teachers, and one of which is improving teacher performance. The effectiveness of the CoP really needs to be studied in depth. Therefore, a study was conducted on the role of CoP in improving the performance of primary school teachers in Riau Province. The method is a quantitative descriptive study, which describes the role of CoP activities in improving teacher performance in Riau through quantitative data. The research was carried out in May-August 2020. The participant was elementary schools’ teachers in Riau Province. The data source is the primary school teachers totalling 60 people. Data collection techniques using a questionnaire. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that there are several roles of CoP activities in improving teacher performance, among others: through CoP teachers can discuss in construct learning tools, teachers were able to arrange lesson plans for active learning based on analysis of student needs, learning materials are arranged based on various learning sources, using media active learning, analysing evaluation test and conducting assessments according to active learning and student abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an appropriate and practical math textbook in the unit of the Least Common Multiple (LCM) and the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) in order to increase elementary students’ learning motivation. This is a Research and Development (RnD) type of study with the Plomp model. A mathematician and a teacher assessed the validity of the textbook. The practicality of the textbook was assessed by two teachers and 15 students using questionnaires. The students' motivation was assessed by the students using questionnaires as well. The results showed that the textbook was appropriate with an average of 83.32%, the respondent results from the students’ views were practical with an average of 82.33% and very practical with an average of 87.6 from the teachers’ view. This study also found that the textbook increased the students’ learning motivation by 6.45%.

Abstract

Several inconsistent research results regarding the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing Mathematical Abilities (MA) of primary school students have been reported widely by some researchers. To summarize, estimate, and evaluate the effect of PBL on MA of primary school students and investigate the study characteristics that provoked the heterogeneous effect size, a systematic review and meta-analysis was employed. Hedge's equation was employed to measure effect size using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software as an analysis tool. The synthesis of 16 relevant primary studies revealed that the overall implementation of PBL had a high positive effect (g = 1,050) significantly compared to conventional learning on MA of primary school students based on a random effect model. Moreover, the characteristics of the sampling technique, publication index, and MA significantly caused the heterogeneity of the effect size of PBL towards students' MA. Thus, these results suggest that primary school mathematics teachers should select PBL as one of the best solutions to enhance students' MA and consider the characteristics of students MA that will be improved. Besides, researchers should select random sampling as a sampling technique to select the sample and the literature indexed by Scopus as references to support the quality of research.

Abstract

At every level of education, one of the most important lessons is mathematics. Mathematics becomes a very important learning because it is always used in everyday life. Therefore mathematics learning must be centered on the basic concepts of mathematics. So students can apply the basic concepts of mathematics to everyday life. At this time the development of technology is very rapid and can be utilized to develop based on the TPACK concept of learning media that is in accordance with the model or learning approach to explain a mathematical concept. So that learning mathematics can be more interesting and can help students to understand the basic concepts of mathematics. Hawgent is one of the software developed in accordance with the needs of teaching mathematics. In this study learning media will be developed based on the TPACK concept on line and angle material using hawgent dynamic mathematics software. The results of this study are learning media declared valid by media experts and material experts and can be implemented in schools.
