Abstract

In the last decades, the  teachers criticized for failing to integrate the knowledge in the behavior of virtue. Therefore the character education is always considered in every design education, including in madrassas. The character education is the deliberate attempt to influence the behavior of students through customizing repeatedly. making it easy to do virtue and avoid crime. The research has focused on the approach to character education at madrassa. The qualitative method by interviewing, observation, and focus groups have been used in this study.A total of 16 teachers at four madrassas in South Sulawesi has been selected through purposive Sampling. The  research suggest: Madrassa teachers have not managed to practice the concept of teaching character. Both conceptually and contextually. The failure of conceptually caused teachers do not embed character values are extracted from the behavior of student’s virtue. While the failure of the contextually is has caused teachers failed in an attempt to develop character values, such as social relationships, honesty, and discipline. In addition, the teachers are not managed to practice courteous and not empowered to detain students of behavior lie.

Abstract

Identifying challenges for teachers in developing their professionalism in teaching to improve students’ learning outcomes. The focus was addressed on the development of teaching professionalism in improving knowledge and skills of Junior High School teachers in Makassar Indonesia. This study employed qualitative methods through a case study to identify the barriers of professionalism in teaching. 36 samples for open-ended questionnaire and nine of them are selected purposively to be interviewed. The data was analyzed by coding based on themes related to constraints in teaching management. The results showed four obstacles experienced by teachers in developing their professionalism, namely constraints on textbooks and student worksheets, school laboratory usage, ICT-based media, and the students themselves. The identification could encourage the community and parents support to finance the development of professionalism in teaching and to help the teachers work effectively

Abstract

Krisis keuangan yang melanda Indonesia pada 1996-1999 membawa dampak banyaknya siswa putus sekolah dasar. Kenaikan harga bahan bakar minyak pada 2004 ditakutkan membawa akibat yang sama. Untuk memberikan dukungan kepada keluarga miskin, mulai pada tahun 2005 pemerintah Indonesia membuat program dana Bantuan Operasional Sekolah (BOS) untuk sekolah dasar sampai sekolah menengah pertama. Kebijakan ini kemudian diikuti oleh program pendidikan gratis yang diprogramkan oleh berbagai pemerintah provinsi dan pemerintah kota/kabupaten. Penelitian ini menganalisis pelaksanaan pembiayaan pendidikan khususnya mengenai biaya operasional di sekolah dasar di Kota Makassar, Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan menggunakan desain studi kasus dan menerapkan analisis tematik. Penelitian dilakukan melalui pengumpulan data di lapangan dengan meminta tanggapan dari pejabat pemerintah di tingkat daerah, anggota DPRD, penggiat LSM dan responden di tingkat sekolah serta menafsirkan pelaksanaan/ penerapan pembiayaan pendidikan di sekolah dasar melalui wawancara, dokumen dan observasi. Temuan penelitian ini menemukan bahwa masih terdapat pungutan terhadap orang tua siswa, biaya operasional sekolah ternyata belum mencukupi untuk memenuhi semua keperluan pembelajaran di sekolah, serta indikasi kurangnya transparansi antara kepala sekolah dengan guru-guru serta orang tua siswa. Selanjutnya didapati bahwa sekolah yang menjadi sampel, ternyata kurang melibatkan komite sekolah dan tidak adanya pegawai administrasi di sekolah dasar. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini menyarankan masih perlu penambahan biaya operasional sekolah, perlunya transparansi dan perlunya perbaikan penggunaan dana di sekolah serta perlunya pengadaan pegawai administrasi di sekolah dasar.
