Abstract

This research aimed to find out the difference of cognitive learning achievement between students taught with Concept Attainment Model and those taught with Discovery Learning model. This study was a quasi-experimental research. The population of research was the 12th Science graders of SMAN 1 Karas of Magetan Regency in school year of 2016/2017. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling technique, consisting of two grades: the 12th Science 4 grade as the first experiment class using Concept Attainment Model and the 12th Science 3 grade as the second experiment class using Discovery Learning model. Technique of collecting data used was t-test technique for data of students’ cognitive learning outcome. Data analysis was carried out using unpaired two-sample variance analysis. The result of research showed there was a difference of cognitive learning outcome between the students treated with learning using Concept Attainment Model and those treated with learning using Discovery Learning. The cognitive learning achievement of students taught with Concept Attainment Model was higher than that of those taught with Discovery Learning.

Abstract

Generic skills are the skills which needed to face the future. In this study, the generic skills that discussed are the generic skills on the science field, called generic science skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of module based on discovery learning to increase generic science skills. This study was conducted at one of the State Madrasah Aliyah in Surakarta academic year 2016/2017. The pre test and post test research pattern with treatment and control class groups were used throughout the study. While the treatment group taught by using module based on discovery learning, the control group was taught by a module that commonly used in the school. As the study concluded, using module based on discovery learning in the learning process is effective to increase generic science skills.

Abstract

The use of instructional method is very important for education. The Appropriate instructional methods for the characteristics of learning materials will help teachers and students reach the targeted aim of competencies. This research aims to analyze the use of instructional methods used in secondary school on environmental learning. This analysis is very useful in giving real-representatives potrait and the impact of the use of instructional methods toward students’ performance. Data were analyzed qualitatively in accordance with the Miles &Huberman. The data collection methods are an observation of learning activity, indepth interviews with teachers and student learning outcomes documentation in SMP 13 Magelang, one of developing secondary schools in Indonesia. The results showed that the use of instructional methods has not been suitable for characteristics of the learning materials and students’ characteristics. Teachers should choose instructional methods that will make easier for students to understand the concept. Instructional methods that are often used by teachers is lecture and discussion method. The result is poor performance of student learning. The root cause of the mismatch instructional method with the characteristics of material is insufficient time allocation that will affect teacher’s teaching and learning strategy
