Abstract

Environmental literacy refers to the knowledge of the mechanism of how the nature works and the roles of human to preserve the nature sustainably. The dynamic relation between human and environment can be seen from the life interaction along with all the components. One characteristic of society that has environmental literacy is highly concerned with environmental. This research aims to analyze students’ environmental literacy in Adiwiyata Green School in Surakarta. Environmental literacy covers some components including environmental knowledge, attitude, and environmental concern.This research was developed through descriptive qualitative design to obtain data by employing classroom observation and questionnaire based on environmental literacy to the students in Adiwiyata Green School in Surakarta. The research finding shows that (1) students’ environmental literacy in Adiwiyata Green School in Surakarta is categorized as low level. Data obtained from the instrument are 77,38% for environmental knowledge, 59,50% for attitude, 70,12% for environmental concern. The average percentage for all components is 68,97%. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that the environmental literacy is still low. It can be seen from (1) knowledge and concern aspects are higher than attitude aspect, (2) attitude aspect contains two components which are anti anthropocentrism and anti-exemptionalism, so that it is necessarily to increase students’ concern toward the environment.

Abstract

The recent value integration of science and religion has become a topic of research in Indonesia, especially in developing critical-thinking skills and students’ personal religious belief. The purpose of this research is to see the results of the implementation of the DBUS (Discovery-Based Unity of Sciences) learning model analyzed in detail at each step of the learning. This research uses a qualitative approach with interactive analysis of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research sample was 101 students and two biology lecturers from UIN Walisongo Semarang, 94 students and two biology lecturers from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The results of the analysis of this research show that, by implementing the DBUS learning model, students learn constructively, meaningfully, and can apply each syntax in the learning process to develop critical-thinking skills and students’ personal religious beliefs. The DBUS learning model becomes a way to integrate the value of science and religion in developing students' abilities to learn constructively and meaningfully so they can develop critical-thinking skills and personal religious beliefs (PRB).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the science module based on the contextual learning approach (CTL) in improving the critical thinking skills of junior high school students. The research method used was a quasi-experimental study involving 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class from a junior high school in Surakarta. The data collection technique was done by measuring students' critical thinking skills before (pretest) and after learning using the Science module (posttest). The instrument used was a critical thinking skill test based on Facione's critical thinking skills indicator. The improvement of students 'critical thinking skills was analyzed using a pretest-posttest gain score and followed by an independent sample t-test to determine the significance of the difference in the average increase in students' critical thinking skills. The results showed that the use of a science module based on a contextual learning approach could improve students' critical thinking skills, with a score of 0.46, or in the category of moderate improvement compared to control class students, with a score of 0.29, or in the low improvement category. Meanwhile, based on the results of the t-test the average gain score of the two classes shows a significant difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills between students who are taught using the Science module and students who are taught using conventional modules.

Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Subject Specific Pedagogy (SSP) based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to empower the students' ecological literacy at Sebelas Maret University. This research was conducted on Biology Education Program of FKIP UNS. The research design used was posttest-only control design. The sample of the research is 6th semester student with the number of 46 as experiment class and 7th semester student with amount 57 as control class. The posttest value of ecological literacy for the experimental class was 80.77% while the control class was 68.14%. The result of posttest of ecological literacy questionnaire was analyzed using independent test of t-test. Result of t test is got sig value = 0,00 (0,05) so there is difference of ecological literacy between experiment class and control class. This difference is influenced by students who have or are receiving an ecology course in the semester. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi FKIP UNS. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah posttest-only control design. Sampel penelitiannya merupakan mahasiswa semester 6 dengan jumlah 46 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan mahasiswa semester 7 dengan jumlah 57 sebagai kelas kontrol. Didapatkan nilai posttest literasi ekologi untuk kelas eksperimen sebesar 80,77% sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar 68,14%. Hasil posttest kuisioner literasi ekologi dianalisis menggunakan uji beda dengan menggunakan independent t-test. Hasil uji t didapatkan nilai sig=0,00 (0,05) sehingga terdapat perbedaan literasi ekologi antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Perbedaan ini dipengaruhi oleh mahasiswa yang sudah atau sedang menerima mata kuliah ekologi di semesternya. Oleh sebab itu, perangkat SSP berbasis PBL menghasilkan perbedaan nilai literasi ekologi pada mahasiswa pendidikan biologi.Kata Kunci: Subject Specific Pedagogy, Problem-Based Learning, Keefektivan, Literasi Ekologi

Abstract

EFEKTIFITAS MODUL SISTEM IMUNITAS BERBASIS PEMBELAJARAN INQUIRY DALAM MEMEBERDAYAKAN KETRAMPILAN PEMIKIRAN KRITIS SISWA AbstractThis research aimed to find out the effectiveness of inquiry lesson (IL)-based immunity system module product to empower the students’ critical thinking skill. This study was quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design nonequivalent. The participant or subject of research consisted of 67 Senior High School students in Kediri in Academic Year of 2016/2017 distributed in two classes: 33 students in the 11th Natural Science 2 Grade as experiment class and 34 students in the 11th Natural Science 3 Grade as existing class. The instrument used to collect data on critical thinking skill was essay test. Experiment class was treated using inquiry lesson-based module, and existing class using module commonly used at school. Data analysis employed t-test at significance level with p-value = 0.000 (p<0.05). The gap between pre- and posttest scores was 20.99% for experiment class and 10.76% for existing class. From the result of research, it could be concluded that learning using inquiry lesson (IL)-based immunity system in learning process is very significant to empower the students’ critical thinking skill.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan produk modul sistem imunitas berbasis inquiry lesson (IL) untuk memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi-eksperimental dengan pretest-posttest control group design nonequivalent. Partisipan subjek penelitian dilakukan di salah satu Sekolah Menengah Atas di Kediri tahun Akademik 2016/2017 berjumlah 67 siswa didistribusikan di dua kelas yaitu 33 siswa kelas XI IPA 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 34 siswa kelas XI IPA 3 sebagai kelas eksiting. Instrumen test keterampilan berpikir kritis menggunakan test essay. Perlakuan penelitian pada kelas eksperimen menggunakan modul berbasis inquiry lesson dan kelas eksiting menggunakan modul umum yang digunakan di sekolah. Analisis data menggunakan uji-t pada taraf signifiansi nilai p = 0,000 (p<0,05). Gap skor pra dan pasca tes adalah 20,99% kelas eksperimen sedangkan kelas eksiting 10,76%. Hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran menggunakan modul sistem imunitas berbasis inquiry lesson (IL) dalam proses pembelajaran sangat signifikan untuk memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa.Permalink/DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.15408/es.v10i1.7259

Abstract

Pentingnya literasi sains berhubungan dengan bagaimana siswa mampu menggunakan kemampuan berpikir secara ilmiah dan menggunakan pengetahuan serta proses sains dalam memahami suatu fenomena sehingga mampu mengambil keputusan untuk memecahkan masalah. Literasi sains dapat diberdayakan menggunakan model pembelajaran guided discovery dengan modul sebagai bahan ajar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan literasi sains siswa dengan modul IPA berbasis guided discovery pada tema pemanasan global. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pengembangan Research and Development (R&D) dengan mengacu pada model Borg & Gall, teknik analisis menggunakan metode deskriptif-kualitatif berdasarkan skor kriteria, sedangkan uji coba lapangan menggunakan pre eksperimen dengan one group pretest-posttest design. Data hasil penelitian pengembangan modul IPA berbasis guided discovery memenuhi kriteria layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran dari hasil validasi dengan kategori sangat baik, implementasi modul IPA berbasis guided discovery efektif digunakan untuk meningkatkan literasi sains berdasarkan uji operasional di SMP dengan perolehan gains skor sebesar 0,56 pada kategori sedang. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil miskonsepsi siswa kelas X di sebuah SMA Swasta di Karanganyar pada materi fotosintesis dan respirasi tumbuhan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa SMA kelas X MIA. Teknik sampling menggunakan purposive random sampling dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 25 siswa. Miskonsepsi diukur menggunakan tes pilihan ganda Science & Plant For School yang disertai Certainty of Response Index (CRI) pada konsep fotosintesis dan respirasi tumbuhan. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian  menunjukkan bahwa persentase siswa yang mengalami miskonsepsi pada konsep Fotosintesis dan Respirasi Tumbuhan sebesar 41,6%, siswa yang tahu konsep sebesar 38% dan siswa yang tidak tahu konsep sebesar 20,4%. AbstractThis study aims to determine the profile misconception of class X students in a private high school in Karanganyar of photosynthesis and plant respiration material. This study used survey meta-analysis. The study population is all high school students of X class MIA. The sampling technique uses purposive random sampling with the number of samples as much as 25Student. Misconceptions measured were measured using the Science & Plant For School multiple-choice test accompanied by the Certainty of Response Index (CRI) on the concept of photosynthesis and plant respiration. Data analysis used quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that the percentage of students who experienced misconceptions on the concept of photosynthesis and plant respiration 41.6%, students who know the concept of 38% and students who do not know the concept of 20.4%.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the need for teaching materials in the Biology Learning Strategy course that are in accordance with the needs of lecturers and students to support learning in the modern era. The design of this research is exploratory research. The research subjects were ten lecturers in Biology Learning Strategy courses or similar courses from seven universities and 102 biology education students who had gone through Biology Learning Strategies courses from Universities in Surakarta and DIY. Data collection techniques are observation and questionnaires. Analysis of questionnaire data using Rasch modeling. The results of the study indicate that the obstacles faced in learning the Biology Learning Strategy course are the absence of teaching materials that can be used as a guide in the learning process. The results of the questionnaire analysis of lecturers and students are above the logit item value of 0.00 which shows the respondents agree on the importance of the Biology Learning Strategy course and that teaching materials are needed in the form of textbooks. The conclusion of this research is that it is necessary to develop a textbook with the characteristics of Blended Collaboration Problem-Based Learning to support the Biology Learning Strategy course.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan potensi lokal merupakan salah satu alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk membantu siswa mempelajari materi biologi. Penggunaan modul DiscoveryLearning (DL) dengan menggunakan potensi lokal Umbul Tlatar diharapkan dapat mempermudah pemahaman siswa terutama pada materi struktur tumbuhan. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk: 1) mengetahui karakteristik modul DL; 2) mengetahui kelayakan modul DL; 3) mengetahui efektivitas modul DL terhadap keterampilan regulasi diri dan sikap kepedulian lingkungan peserta didik. Metode penelitian menggunakan model penelitian dan pengembangan Borg&Gall yang dimodifikasi yaitu: 1)penelitian pendahuluan dan pengumpulan informasi 2) perencanaan 3)pengembangan desain produk awal 4)uji coba kelompok kecil 5)revisi produk utama 6)uji lapangan terbatas 7)revisi produk akhir. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi: angket, observasi, wawancara dan tes. Data yang diperoleh yaitu data hasil validasi ahli, validasi praktisi pendidikan. Hasil uji coba dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian dan pengembangan menunjukkan 1) karakteristik modul dikembangkan berdasarkan sintaks Discovery Learning meliputi: stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing,  verification  dan generalization,  2) Modul dinyatakan layak oleh ahli materi, ahli penyajian modul, ahli perangkat pembelajaran. Modul dinyatakan layak oleh guru dan siswa, 3) Hasil uji operasional terkait regulasi diri menunjukkan signifikansi 0,00<0,05 dan hasil uji operasional  terkait kepedulian lingkungan menunjukkan signifikansi 0,00<0,05, disimpukan modul Discovery Learning(DL) dengan potensi lokal Umbul Tlatar  bermanfaat secara efektif dapat meningkatkan regulasi diri dan sikap kepedulian lingkungan siswa SMA.Development of discovery learning module plant structures by using potential of umbul tlatar area to enhance self regulation capability and awarness toward  environment attitude of high school students. Utilization of local potential is an alternative that can be used to help students learn biological material. The use of the Discovery Learning (DL) module by using the potential of Umbul Tlatar area is expected to facilitate students' understanding, especially in plant structure materials. The purpose of this research is to: 1) knowing the characteristics of DL modules; 2) knowing the feasibility of the DL module; 3) knowing the effectiveness of the DL module on the ability of self regulation and the Awarness toward environment of students. The research method uses a modified Borg & Gall research and development model, namely: 1) preliminary research and information gathering 2) planning 3) initial product design development 4) small group trials 5) main product revisions 6) limited field tests 7) product revisions. The instruments that used include: questionnaires, observation, interviews and tests. The data obtained are the results of expert validation data, validation of education practitioners, and the results of the trial were analyzed quantitatively descriptively. The results of research and development show 1)module characteristics developed based on discovery learning syntax include: stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization 2) the module is feasible declared by material experts, module presentation experts, learning device experts.  The module is declared appropriate by teachers and students 3) the operational test results related to self-regulation show a significance 0.00 <0.05 and the results of operational tests related to environmental care show a significance 0.00 <0.05, it can be concluded that the Discovery Learning module (DL) by using the local potential of useful Umbul Tlatar effectively in improving self-regulation and environmental care attitudes of high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) Develop an integrated Inquiry-based Biology module integrated with Islamic Science to improve the religious behavior of grade XI high school students. (2) Knowing the feasibility of the Science-based Biology Inquiry module in Islamic-based Schools. This type of research is research and development by using a modification of the Four-D Model (4-D Model) which consists of 4 stages, namely: defining, designing, developing, and distributing (developing) disseminate). Qualitative data were obtained from observations and questionnaires, while quantitative data were obtained from the results of the module validation, questionnaire assessments in product trials (limited trials and extensive trials), operational trials and questionnaires on Islamic knowledge of Islamic cuisine. The results of this study indicate that: (1) the validation of Biology and Qur'an material experts and Hadith are in very reasonable criteria (88.5%); (2) media validation in the criteria is very feasible (90%); (3) language validation in the criteria is very feasible (93.75%); (4) learning device validation (95.31%). The results of the assessment of education practitioners are 88.01 and colleagues 90.71, which means the module is very feasible to use. In conclusion, Digestion System Module based on Inquiry integrated  Islamic Science for Class XI High School is proper to be used as a support for the learning of the Digestive System in an Islamic-based school environment
