Abstract

This research aims to describe and explain: (1) the difference of influence in disciplinal behavior of the early ages in learning using character education books containing congeniality between context and illustration in the form of story, activity, and activity-comparative; (2) the strongest influence between story, activity, and activity-comparative books containing congeniality between context and illustration to disciplinal behavior of the early age. This research was conducted in TK Kristen Kalam Kudus Surakarta. This research was done with experimental quantitative method. Before the experiment was carried out, early analysis of character education books containing congeniality between context in illustration was done, continued by determining books that fit the criteria in congeniality between context and illustration based on the early analysis and experts’ opinions. The experts including book authors who are proficient in the psychological development of the early age, and teachers of kindergartens. Data retrieval was done using instruments. Instruments and data have been validated theoretically and contextually. The results conclude that there is a significant influence of congeniality between context and illustration to disciplinal behavior of the early age in kindergartens. The strongest influence among the books containing congeniality between context in illustration is activity-comparative books.

Abstract

AbstrakBuku dapat menjadi media pendidikan karakter pada anak usia dini karena efektif dan efisien. Di sinilah pendidikan karakter dapat diajarkan secara halus dan mudah diterima oleh anak usia dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan kesesuaian konteks dan ilustrasi buku pendidikan karakter untuk anak usia dini berdasarkan teori desain; dan pendapat ahli tentang buku pendidikan karakter yang sesuai dengan konteks anak usia dini. Metode penelitian adalah metode kualitatif-studi kasus. Observasi dan wawancara digunakan untuk pengambilan data dan validasi menggunakan teknik triangulasi teori. Analisis menggunakan teknik analisis isi. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa (1) kesesuaian konteks dan ilustrasi buku pendidikan karakter untuk anak usia dini yang ditemukan meliputi konteks linguistik, konteks emotif, konteks situasional, ilustrasi tokoh yang memberi contoh kebaikan, warna yang cerah; dan (2) jenis buku cerita “Zayn Belajar Disiplin, buku “Aktivitas Pendikar, dan buku aktivitas-komparasi “Aku Anak Baik di Sekolah” merupakan  buku pendidikan karakter yang sesuai dengan konteks anak usia dini sehingga layak digunakan sebagai media untuk mengajarkan karakter bagi anak usia dini. Kata Kunci: konteks-ilustrasi, buku bergambar, pendidikan, karakter  AbstractBooks can be a medium of character education in early childhood because it is effective and efficient. This is where character education can be taught smoothly and easily accepted by young children. The aims of this research were describe and explain the suitability of contexts and illustrations of character education books for early childhood based on design theory; And expert opinion on character education books that fit the context of early childhood. The research method is qualitative method-case study. Observations and interviews are used for data retrieval and validation using triangulation theory techniques. Data analysis using content analysis techniques. The results of the study explain that (1) the suitability of contexts and illustrations of character education books for early childhood were found to include linguistic context, emotive context, situational context, illustration of figures that give examples of goodness, bright colors; and (2) the type of storybook "Zayn Belajar Disiplin, the book"Aktivitas Pendikar”, and the comparative activity book "Aku Anak Baik di Sekolah" are character education book appropriate to the context of early childhood so it is worthy to be used as a medium to teach character to early childhood.Keywords: Context-illustration, picture book, education, character

Abstract

AbstrakBidang seni rupa dan desain tidak hanya sebatas pada aspek estetik, bila digali lebih dalam sebuah karya seni rupa dan desain memiliki manfaat pada aspek psikologis. Filsuf Alain de Botton mengatakan bahwa seni memiliki efek terapeutik dengan memanfaatkan kelemahan psikologis manusia dan menjadikannya sebagai kekuatan, yaitu remembering, hope, sorrow, rebalancing, self-understanding, growth, dan appreciation yang memiliki manfaat pada kesehatan mental. Buku ‘Nanti Kita Cerita Tentang Hari Ini’ atau disingkat ‘NKCTHI’ dijadikan studi kasus dalam menganalisis buku pengembangan diri bergambar sebagai media art as therapy. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif digunakan sebagai metode dalam membedah buku tersebut. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi literatur terkait dan observasi baik offline maupun online. Studi literatur yang digunakan beracuan pada teori Art as Therapy oleh Alain de Botton (2013). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk Membuktikan apakah teori tersebut dapat diterapkan pada buku NKCTHI. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil observasi pembaca buku NKCTHI memenuhi aspek-aspek terapeutik sebagai media art as therapy.Kata kunci : art as therapy, buku pengembangan diri, desain visual

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) merupakan gangguan psikologi pada anak yang memengaruhi kelainan pada perkembangan perpasif otak yang mengakibatkan terganggunya kemampuan bahasa dan perilaku. Hal tersebut mendasari bagi lembaga pendidikan khusus seperti Lembaga Pendidikan Autisma Prananda Bandung (LPAPB) untuk merancang program berbasis media grafis sebagai strategi untuk membantu meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi ekspresif anak ASD di lembaga dan dirumah dengan metode Home Based Program, yang mendasari adalah karena kesulitannya dalam berlatih pembendaharaan kosakata dasar sehingga mengakibatkan maksud dan keinginannya sulit dipahami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kebutuhan sarana pembelajaran anak ASD High Function untuk mempelajari kosakata, kategori kosakata dan merangkai kata melalui Home Based Program di LPAPB. Metode perancangan ini menggunakan Human Centered Design (HCD) melalui tahapan Observation, Idea Generation, Prototype dan Test yang mengadopsi metode Double Diamond dengan alat uji hasil perancangan yang bernama Human Centered Design Toolkit yang mengutamakan aspek kebutuhan, kemampuan dan perilaku pengguna sebagai dasar perancangan dengan efektif. Hasil penelitian ini berupa buku bergambar interaktif lift a flap sebagai alternatif media grafis dengan implementasi konten pengembangkan kemampuan pembendaharaan kosakata, pengategorian serta perangkaian kata melalui Home Based Program. Hasil pengujian menunjukan; buku bergambar interaktif lift a flap dapat menjadi media grafis alternatif yang efektif, sebagai upaya pengembangan media pembelajaran khusus anak ASD. Kata Kunci: ASD High Function, home based program, buku bergambar interaktif lift a flap, kosakata.

Abstract

Bergesernya tren media menjadi digital mengharuskan perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang media cetak seperti majalah untuk berkembang ke ranah digital agar tidak kehilangan konsumen. Majalah sebagai media yang menyediakan informasi, perlu mengemasnya ke dalam bentuk digital, karena apabila hal tersebut tidak dilakukan maka majalah tersebut ditinggalkan konsumen. Aplikasi majalah digital sebagai produk untuk memenuhi kebutuhan konsumen untuk membaca, membuat developer aplikasi majalah digital perlu memahami kebutuhan pengguna. Dengan demikian, pengalaman pengguna yang ditawarkan oleh aplikasi majalah digital tentu saja menjadi pertimbangan agar aplikasi tersebut dapat menjadi salah satu preferensi pengguna. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan campuran melalui metode User Experience Questionaire (UEQ) sebagai instrumen pengukuran pola user experience dengan hasil data kuantitatif. Pengujian data kolektif menggunakan analisis korelasi, regresi, dan faktor untuk mengidentifikasi pengaruh user experience terhadap preferensi pengguna. Hasil identifikasi dikaji lebih lanjut dengan pendekatan kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan desain yang ideal sebagai rekomendasi desain. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya pengaruh user experience pada preferensi pengguna berdasarkan tiga faktor dominan, yaitu ramah pengguna terkait dengan kemudahan pengguna ketika menggunakan aplikasi majalah digital, kemudian faktor atraktif terkait dengan visual dan interaksi yang dapat menarik atensi pengguna, dan kecepatan yang terkait dengan seberapa efisien aplikasi majalah digital dapat diandalkan Kata kunci: Majalah digital, pengalaman pengguna, preferensi

Abstract

The religious greeting cards that are based on paper, e-card, e-mail, Short Message Service (SMS), and Multimedia Message Service (MMS) are very beneficial media to strengthen a religious greeting cards is regardes as representation of the value of a related religious celebration itself. Most religious greeting cards use holy visual sign on them, in which it is extremely interesting to be studied. Therefore, this study was concentrated on the use of holy visual sign on Chinese New Year, Christmas, and EID Mubarak greeting cards. This study conducts in semiotics approach. As for the research methodology, this study employed the text analysis that is based on the semiotics approach. This text analysis used to identify and to describe the holy visual signs of the above-mentioned greetings cards. The holy aspect include such things as nature, space and time, commandment and speech, and figure. The study shows that there are some similarities and differences concerning the appearance of holy visual sign on the greeting cards to celebrate Chinese New Year, Christmas, and EID Mubarak. The study also shows that there were some similarities and differences about the meaning of holy visual signs on each of them could be the reasult of the similarities and differences of culturaly, religious background of the people in Indonesia.

Abstract

Typography has become a very important thing in the world of cinema. Its existence is undeniably can be an attraction for a film. In addition to its function to convey the title, typography also has a function as the identity of a film. This identity can certainly represent and reveal the characters behind the film through its visuals. One of the typography in film titles that has a characteristic in each film is Disney animated films. Typography in the title of Disney animated films with the adventure genre certainly has a variety of typography because the adventure genre has many things that happen in the film, from fear, courage, sadness, to joy. Typographic analysis in the title of this film is reviewed based on the Machin's Inventory of Typographical Meaning Potentials method by van Leeuwen through the character approach in the film. With this, designers can create typography for film titles that match the character of the film.

Abstract

There are various response and reaction when someone is facing grief. Most of the people who went through it, will experience the Stage of Grief. The theory of Stage of Grief is still unusual to some people because the lack of literacy about related theory, especially for teenagers. Another factor that takes effect is teenager’s reading interest. Nowadays, zine is a visual media that is appealing and effective enough for the young readers. This research will study some literacy that contains Stage of Grief theory using the qualitative descriptive method. Based on the theories that are used (Stage of Grief theory, theory about effects of visual elements on reading interest, and theory about zine), a conclusion was made that zine is an appropriate literacy choice for young readers, where the text and illustration have a balanced proportion. Zine as a visual media is enough to make the readers to understand the contents easier.

Abstract

This study aims to discover how the construction of meaning is formed in young mothers regarding theappearance of the character design of the mother figure on the Instagram account Parenting is Easy. The urgencyof this research relates to the phenomenon of using Instagram and the design of the character of the motherfigure as a media for parenting education. This phenomenon will affect the meaning of young mothers in thecharacter design of the mother figure, which beginsto shift due to technological factors and different generations.The meaning of young mothers in the character design of the mother figure will also affect the identity andparenting pattern formed. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Theconclusion of this study obtained the construction of meaning formed in the design of the character of the motherfigure. These meanings are categorized into two groups: the emotional young mother category and the trendyyoung mother category, which also construct the meaning of two different parenting patterns.

Abstract

Gender discrimination in the form of stereotyping towards males is an issue that is often overlooked. In order to meet the demands of being a “real man”, men are often generalized into stereotypes such as: acting rough, aggressive, forbidden to show weakness, and are expected to do jobs and activities that rely more on physical strength and exist in public spaces. Let’s Read! Indonesia is an organization from Asia with a digital library for children that is able to address heavy issues such as gender equality, providing a platform for children to learn while also being a means to reconstruct masculine stereotypes from an early age. This research aims to analyse the visual representation of male main characters in Let’s Read! Indonesia’s books and determine whether these depictions embody masculine stereotypes or not. The characters’ visuals were analysed using the ideational metafunction, which examines their characteristic form (expression, attitude, and appearance), activities, and the activity space. From the five books that were examined, three of the main characters were found to exhibit masculine stereotypes, while the other two exhibited conflicting characteristics towards masculine stereotypes.
