Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the levels of vitamin C and β-carotene in Moringa leaves extract (Moringa oleifera Lam.) using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Vitamin C on Moringa leaves are extracted with ethanol 96%. The extracts obtained was qualitatively analyzed of levels of vitamin C using specific reagents an iodine 1% and ammonium molybdate 5%. Than quantitatively using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at wavelength of 570 nm, obtained an verage grade of 7,96 mg/g. For β-carotene, Moringa leaves were extracted with acetone. The extract obtained was extracted again with ether, then saponified with KHO solvent 15% w/v in methanol, allowed to stand overnight. The extract obtained was extracted again with ether, then freed from wet with distilled water. Extracts were analyzed qualitatively using thin layer chromatography and quantitatively using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at wavelength of 450 nm and obtained an average grade of 3,31 mg/g.

Abstract

Pomelo citrus (Citrus maxima (Burm) Merr) is a fruit plant that has the potential to be developed for health. Pomelo fruit contains lycopene, flavonoids and vitamin C which can provide antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential antioxidant activity of ethanol extract and fraction of n-hexane of pomelo citrus using quercetin as a comparison. Extraction of pomelo citrus fruit using the maceration method with liquid-liquid fractionation using water and n-hexane (1: 3 v / v). Testing of antioxidant activity using the DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazil) method is based on the ability of the sample to capture DPPH free radicals which are characterized by purple to yellow discoloration and a decrease in the absorbance value of DPPH which has reacted with samples in certain concentrations. Absorbance measurements using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 514,942 nm. The results showed that the IC50 value of quercetin was 6.55 µg / mL which was a strong antioxidant, while the IC50 value of the ethanol extract of pomelo citrus fruit was 2882.26 µg / mL and IC50 value of the n-hexane fraction of pomelo orange was 3668,44 µg / mL which is a weak antioxidant category. Kata kunci : Antioxidants, Ethanol Extract, n-Hexane Fraction, Pomelo citrus (Citrus maxima (Burm) Merr

Abstract

Pamelo citrus is a fruit plant having the potential to be developed in Indonesia. One of the centers for producing large oranges or Pamelo citrus in South Sulawesi is Pangkep Regency. One of the components of the Pamelo citrus is pectin. Pectin is a polysaccharide compound with a high molecular weight which is widely found in plants and it can absorb metals because they contain carboxylic groups. This study aimed to analyze pectin from albedo pamelo citrus fruit as an adsorbent for heavy metal plumbum (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and copper (Cu). The method used was atomic absorption spectrophotometer with the equation analysis of heavy metal adsorption by pectin of pamelo citrus determined by Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isothermal method. The results showed that pectin of albedo pamelo citrus following the isothermal of Freundlich adsorption which showed the adsorbent capacity of Pb, Cd and Cu with the KF values 0.561 mg/g, 0.010 mg/g and 0.066 mg/g, respectively. Meanwhile, n values were 0.823 for Pb, 0.321 for Cd and 1.121 for Cu, and in commercial pectin following the isothermal of Freundlich adsorption with the KF values of Pb, Cd and Cu were 0.650 mg/g, Cd 0.015 and Cu of 0.77 mg/g, respectively. Then the n values were 0.641 for Pb, 0.811 for Cd and 1.183 for Cu.

Abstract

Black soybean (Glycine soja Linn. Sieb.) contain flavonoid compounds known as isoflavones. Isoflavones are kind of flavonoid which is the highest antioxidative activity exhibited by the isoflavones aglycones, especially genistein. Isoflavone glycosides containt in G. soja can be hydrolyzed to be aglycone (genistein) using an acid. The aim if this research was to investigate the antioxidant activity of the hydrolyzed G. soja extract that was obtained by β-carotene bleaching method. The result showed that the hydrolyzed G. soja extract has the value of antioxidant activity 42.8% and 81.1% for the standards solution of quercetin. Therefore, it can conclude that the hydrolyzed G. soja extract has the efficacy as an antioxidant.

Abstract

One of the plants that is well known in the community and is used as a traditional medicine is patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth.). It contains essential oils, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, glycosides, terpenoids and steroids. The alcohol content, such as patchouli alcohol and its derivatives, phenol, and a group of terpenoids in patchouli oil has antibacterial activity. The aim at this research to determine the total phenolic condition the ethanol extract from the patchouli leaves. The extract obtained was analyzed ist content using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The measurements were done at the maximum wavelength of 662,85 nm. The result showed that the total phenolic in patchouli leave is 327,84 mgGAE /gram of extract.

Abstract

Menstruation is a physiological change in a woman's body that occurs periodically and is influenced by reproductive hormones either FSH-Estrogen or LH-Progesterone. In women, this usually occurs every month between teens to menopause, and lasts around 7-28 days. Knowing the characteristics of menstruation early is a very important thing to know because it is an early learning about the reproductive system and their health. Blood type is an inherited antigen on the surface of red blood cells. The two most important types of blood classification to know are the classification of ABO and Rhesus (Rh factor). Blood type examination is an activity that is sometimes overlooked by the community, in this case the needs of the Blood Type are carried out for clinical purposes such as: blood transfusions, preventing transfusion complications, and for pregnant women. According to empirical data obtained in 2017 the level of understanding of menstruation and blood type in primary schools is very low. For this reason, efforts are made to provide education and information as well as checks on children from an early age as a starting point for character building in improving education and knowledge in general and specifically regarding health

Abstract

Chronic exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun will cause changes in skin structure and oxidative stress on the skin. The effects can be in the form of acute changes such as erythema, pigmentation and photosensitivity, as well as long-term effects of premature aging and skin damage. Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is a universal indicator that explains the effectiveness of a product or substance that is UV protection. Natural ingredients that can be used as UV protection are button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus). This study aims to determine UV light protection activity in the ethanol extract of button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) based on the SPF values analyzed by UV-Vis spectrophotometry at wavelengths of 290-320 nm. The results showed that at concentrations of 1% and 2% had a medium SPF category with SPF values of 17,762 and 28,643. For concentrations of 3% and 4% it has a high SPF category with SPF values of 30,592 and 31,325. The higher the concentration used, the better the SPF value.
