Abstract

Students found virtual lessons to be highly frustrating, therefore motivation to study is critical in completing the learning process, particularly in English language and literature courses. The researcher explores how the pandemic covid-19 influences student motivation during the pandemic covid-19 in this thesis. The mix method was utilized in this investigation, along with a sequential explanatory design. Students in class XII from SMAN 7 Wajo who had been attending English language and literature classes both offline and virtual were used as data sources. Respondents come from a variety of social classes. Researchers employed surveys, interviews, and documentation as data sources in this study, with data analysis through Quan-qual that followed Croswell's explanatory design. The data from the questionnaire was examined using quantitative data, while the data from the interview was studied using qualitative data. The researcher would then evaluate the entire data to answer the query difficulties after collecting the analysis.The results showed that students’ motivation was influenced by the covid-19 pandemic situation that used virtual classes for the ELL course. It showed from the data result that showed some motives that influenced the students such as internet connection, willingness to learn, etc.Due to an abundance of free time, some students get lazy and find it difficult to divide their time. Leisure time becomes both a hindrance and a boon. Leisure time provides several opportunities to learn more from various sources, but it also poses multiple challenges, such as a desire not to study. Too many assignments from other courses could stress the students out

Abstract

Learning English is very important in this 21st Century where English has a big influence in all aspect of life. The right time to teach English is at the primary age because children have amazing abilities in studying a language. In the process of teaching English not only teacher’s support is needed but also parents’ involvement in this case parents as English Lecturer, it is not enough just in the school but also in the family environment. This research comes to investigate the involvement of Parents in the process of learning English for their children as young learners in this 21st century. The Researcher is quantitative research method, in order there are two instruments are provided as the procedure in collecting the data needed, these are questionnaire and interview. The sample consisted of 24 parents as the English lecturers and have children categorized as young learners in Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare and Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, in Indonesia. The result of this research shown that parents’ as English lecturers  have a very positive perspective in teaching English to their children as young learners more over English will support their children carrier in the future, but their involvement are not very intense.  Even though, they are excited to be involve in teaching English to their children as a foreign language for them without forgetting their local language, however they agreed that they can face some challenges in this process.

Abstract

Millennial learners were born and raised in the digital era, with a variety of technology complete and sophisticated, such as: computer, laptop/notebook/netbook, smart Phone, iPads, PDA, MP3 player,  internet, and various other electronic devices. From childhood, they were familiar or introduced with the sophisticated gadgets that directly or indirectly influence their behavioral development and personality. Millennial generation has characteristics of behavior and personality that is different from previous generation. The attributes of millennial learners who grown up with technology may influence the current teaching strategy. In supporting the urgency of exploring the millennial learners’ attributes and needs in educational environment, the authors conduct a survey at Education Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare (UM Parepare), especially the learners who are majoring in English Education.The survey confirmed that those learners were exposed to various types of IT application. Some indications can be extracted from this study. Firstly, the learners were reasonably comfortable in utilizing various types of IT tools and expected the application to be embedded in the current application of learning. Secondly, the learners preferred to try to web in obtaining information, so the use of internet to access learning materials are highly needed. Last but not least, learners were mostly rated to adopt most ICT tools and devices.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi yang makin pesat telah memberikan beragam warna dalam pembelajaran Inggris sehingga mampu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih menarik, efisien, dan efektif bagi peserta didik sehingga tujuan pembelajaran yang sudah ditetapkan dapat terwujud. Salah satu model yang mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan teknologi dalam kegiatan pembelajaran adalah model blended Learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan model blended learing pada pembelajaran English for Math. Penelitian tahun pertama ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif dengan metode pengumpulan data terdiri dari tiga cara yaitu (1) Observasi, (2) Wawancara, dan (3) Dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah dosen dan mahasiswa yang terlibat dalam pembelajaran English for Math berbasis modelblended learning di Universitas Muahmmadiyah Parepare. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model blended learning memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap motivasi belajar mahasiswa namun dianggap belum maksimal. Hal ini disebabkan oleh keterbatasan akses internet dan jaringan listrik serta fasilitas TIK untuk mendukung pelaksanaan model pembelajaran ini.

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the teachers’ challenges in virtual learning process to maximize the achievement of High School students in Indonesia. This research applied qualitative descriptive research with 5 English teachers as subjects of this research. The instruments are used in this research were interview and observation. The data has been analyzed by three steps according to Miles and Huberman theory. The results of this research showed that (a) the teachers’ challenges in virtual learning process are students’ far distance from internet sources, (b) difficult to access the clear explanation from the teachers and students, (c) lack of motivation to teach in limit access of students’ distance and network trouble, and (d) students’ less knowledge if using the internet and difficult to start the meeting using a different application. This study reveals that many challenges come over when the teachers applied virtual learning. Most of teachers were getting into trouble when entering the class if the students did not attend in virtual class because of far distance from internet sources. Another difficulty that challenges the teacher is their lack of giving motivation was not ineffective to teach their class. And the limit of network access made the students in loading to respond to the teachers' explanation and assignment to evaluate their knowledge.

Abstract

This research aims to find out students' reading comprehension abilities before and after being taught using the Merdeka Menagajar Platform. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. There isn't any control group. Researchers give pre-tests to students, and then researchers give students treatment of reading comprehension using the Merdeka Mengajar Platform. The sample of this research was seventh-grade students of UPTD SMPN 19 Barru, a total of 21 students. The results show that the average pre-test score of seventh-grade students at UPTD SMPN 19 Barru experienced a significant increase in the post-test after being taught using the Merdeka Mengajar Platform on treatment. The average student score in reading comprehension on the pre-test was 55.00 and on the post-test was 84.29. So there is an increase in students' reading comprehension. This study shows the value of the t-test is higher than t-table values (14,496 >2.09302). The results of the t-test calculation of student learning before and after being taught using the Merdeka Mengajar platform are greater than the t-table. Can it be concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted? Researchers concluded that the use of the Merdeka Mengajar platform is a learning method that can improve reading comprehension ability in learning English.
