Abstract

During covid-19 pandemic, teachers need to change the activity from a face-to-face into distance learning activity. There may many methods and media used by the teacher, one of them is video. One of the aims is to assist teachers in explaining the material and attracting students' interest. Hence, this study aims to find out the benefits of the use video in teaching and learning activity in pandemic situation. In this study, the researchers investigated what the benefit of the use of video for English learning as perceived by students in Covid-19 pandemic situation. the researchers used qualitative method in this research. The instruments used in this study are questionnaire and interview. The researchers took the data from two classes, which were XI KI I and XI KI III of SMK SMTI Bandarlampung.The research findings shows that students had positive experience when using video as medium in teaching and learning English as a foreign language. Moreover, most of the students agreed that video gives the advantages to the students, such as the increasing of motivation in learning, acquiring new vocabularies, and improving the pronunciation of Englsih words. Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the most important language components in learning the English language. A vocabulary is several English words that are taught to students in the teaching and learning process which goes hand in hand with all four English skills, especially listening. By increasing vocabulary, students’ ability for better understanding in listening, speaking, reading, and writing will likely increase. The more they listen, the more words they will add to their mastering vocabulary. Moreover, many kinds of media may be used to exercise students’ ability nowadays, which include music, video, movies, etc. English movies can provide a great chance for students to learn English vocabulary by listening. This could happen because in watching movies students often hear new words that they may never hear before. The instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. The result showed that by watching English Movie they could add some vocabularies to their memory through listening and watching the scene in the English Movie.

Abstract

To produce competitive students that ready to face the trend of language learning in English as a foreign language, especially speaking skills, teachers should be ready to develop good planning in the teaching process. It can be in the form of strategies that can motivate students in the learning process. Moreover, in teaching elementary school students, teachers should be more creative to encourage students’ motivation in speaking by using attractive teaching media which involves physical activity because young learners usually only have a short attention span. By using teaching media, students will learn a language in such attractive and fun ways. Thus, the researchers want to see the use of Fun Fishing in teaching speaking at one of the Elementary Schools in Lampung to encourage students in learning English. This research used a qualitative method since it disclosed how to implement Fun Fishing media in an Elementary School in Lampung. As a result, the students were divided into four groups consisted of 2-3 members and learned English which involved physical activity. To sum up, using this media in learning English can motivate students to speak in English and make teaching and learning become more fun because they did physical activity.

Abstract

This study investigated students' listening skills using English songs. The reason for choosing this topic is based on the problem of listening ability. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of English songs to improve students' listening skills. The targets of this study were students in the fifth and seventh semester of the English Education study program in UniversitasTeknokrat Indonesia. 100 students participated in this study. This research method is qualitative. Data collection was carried out by distributing link questionnaires to 100 students who had taken listening courses. The results showed that the progress of students' listening skills mastery during the activity could be seen from the data analysis, the researchers used tabulated data. This result shows that English songs are effective in listening skills.

Abstract

To master English language, students cannot only learn English from what is learned in the classroom given by the teacher. They need to explore many things to support their understanding about language. Therefore, independent learning skill is crucially needed. The students are the one who knows what they need to study according to their priority. However, sometimes, it is hard for students to build their independent learning skill since there is no encouragement from the teacher to promote it, and also students’ lack of awareness related to what they are learning. The role of technology like online learning application nowadays really helps teachers and students overcome this problem. This study is aimed to explore the use of language learning application named Memrise to enhance students’ autonomous learning skill outside the class, especially in studying English. A descriptive study was conducted to eighteen Management students taking English for Business II subject. The data gained from questioner and interview showed that Memrise helps students learn English and especially improve their vocabulary. Moreover, because it can be accessed anywhere and anytime, students can always learn English whenever they want to. Thus, it really supports students’ independent learning skill and boosts their English skills.

Abstract

Learning English as a foreign language, especially in a formal context, leads the students to have their own strategy in order to achieve the objective of learning. The strategy is considered as a helpful way to learn English better. After all, every student has their own strategy in learning. Thus, this study presents an exploration of English language learning strategies used by management and engineering students of Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia (UTI). Subjects of the research were 70 students who take English for Business (EFB) subject majoring management and engineering study program. Data were collected through questionnaire and interview. Data were then analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The result of this study gained a platform of learning strategies used by students. As a result, Management and Engineering students showed almost the same strategy in learning English in a class.

Abstract

Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior.  Autistic is a person affected by autism. The level of autism of each individual is varied. It can range from mild to severe. Due to this condition, the person shares some symptoms of the difficulties with social interaction. To make them involved in social interaction, it needs special effort to make them be able to speech or communicate first. For this reason, there should be the use of the combination between verbal and non-verbal communication. Thus, this study attempted to investigate the process of using both kinds of communication in teaching children with autism since children are easier to be threated than adults. To make the distinct result, the participants were from different level of autism. Then, based on the observation and interview, the findings showed that the verbal and non-verbal communication used by the therapist in teaching the autistic children can enhance their social interaction and communication skills.

Abstract

The use of technology has increased rapidly in our daily activities since first industrial revolution and its features also becomes more and more enchanting from time to time. Thus, people are used to work with it to lighten their jobs, including education, such as delivering/learning material through multimedia, online teaching and learning, etc. It is line with the result of preliminary study that 56% students of English Literature at Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia (UTI) said their lecturers used more technology in class. Thus, the researchers used classroom action research in order to know whether the use of technology does not only help the lecturer in delivering material in a class but also improve students’ international culture understanding in English class. To collect the data, the researchers used observations, tests, and questionnaires. The subjects of this research were second semester students of English Literature at UTI. The finding showed that students’ international culture understanding improved after each cycle. Improvement was also seen based on the result of observations that students showed positive behaviour during the teaching and learning activity.

Abstract

The people of Mesuji regency in Margojadi village have corn crops, during this pandemic corn sales decreased, resulting in cheap corn prices. Farmers feel a loss because the harvest model is not in accordance with the buying and selling price. With such obstacles, mothers and the surrounding community took the initiative to make snacks with processed corn called marning. The process of making marning is raw corn dissassemled from the bongkolnya, after which the corn is washed thoroughly and dried until dry. When the corn is dry, the frying process is carried out until the corn expands and is yellowish in color, remove and drain the corn that has been fried with newspaper coated to absorb oil. When the corn is cold the corn is given a salty, sweet, and spicy seasoning. Sales are only around the Mesuji area so that revenue is still mediocre. The existence of this PKM is to help MESUJI MSME efforts to make packaging more attractive, to increase the marketing of marning products in the village of Margojadi Mesuji Timur. Training to make this packaging by means of lectures, tutorials, and discussions with workers to increase marning production and increase sales results and economic sectors in Mergojadi village for the better.
