Abstract

The students' mathematical creative thinking ability is still low and lacks attention in the implementation of mathematics learning. This issue requires an attempt to address the problem. One of the efforts that can be done by teachers to develop creative thinking ability is by applying a Brain-Based Learning model of learning. This study aims to describe the development of students' mathematical creative thinking ability through Brain-Based Learning model. This research employed a qualitative approach. Participants were six students selected from 30 students of class VIII-1 in SMP Negeri 19 Percontohan Banda Aceh. The instruments used in this research are creative thinking ability test and interview guide. The results showed that the ability of students' mathematical creative thinking through Brain-Based Learning model developed. The development of students' creative thinking ability in each indicator is different. The students' mathematical creative thinking abilities for indicators of fluency and flexibility develop at each session. For indicators of originality and elaboration, there was a decrease in the second session but increased for the next one.

Abstract

To increase and improve PISA rankings (Programme for International of Student Assessment) of Indonesian students not only starts from the students, but also teachers and prospective teachers. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of students as prospective teachers to solve problems of high-level PISA (most difficult) is level 5. This study was a descriptive study using a qualitative approach to describe the ability of each student in solving PISA question. The subjects were students taking the Teaching Mathematics I course of Mathematics Education Program FKIP Unsyiah. Data analysis in qualitative research based on the results of the data collection process in the form of field notes, documentation, and interviews. Assessment conducted on students' ability to solve problems using the PISA assessment rubric. Furthermore, the score obtained is converted into the interval level of ability. The results showed only one student (14,28 %) of the seven students who have an excellent ability to resolve the matter appropriately. Meanwhile, three students (42,85 %) experienced only a mistake on the problems at the problem of the distance down. However, the ability of the three students vary based on the accuracy of the analysis in solving aspects. For the third ability of other students (42,85 %) were still low due to the settlement of questions that do not quite right with the ability to be at sufficient levels. Based on the results of this study are expected each faculty can use international issues as a matter of PISA in learning, so that students get used to solve the problems of non-routine to improve their ability to understand and solve problems, which can contribute to the future of teaching practice.

Abstract

The ability of representation is one of the important components to develop students' thinking skills, because this capability is instrumental in helping students to transform abstract ideas into real idea and it can train students to improve problem solving skills with a variety of forms including pictures, diagrams, mathematical expressions, or words or written text. One model of learning that increases the ability of the mathematical representation is a learning model of problem-based learning. This research aims to: 1) determine a mathematical representation increased ability of students taught with problem based learning models 2) the interaction between the learning model of problem-based learning and grouping of students to increase the ability of the mathematical representation. This research is a quantitative research with an experimental method, that has pretest-posttest group design. The population was all students of class X SMA UnggulPidie Jaya by samples of two classes, namely class X3 as an experimental class and class X2 as the control class. The data collection was done by using test. Then analyzed by t -test and ANOVA at the 0.05 significance level after testing prerequisites are met. Based on the analysis we can conclude that: 1) to improve the mathematical representation of students who applied learning model of problem based learning is better than an increase in the ability of the mathematical representation of students who received conventional learning. 2) there is no interaction between the learning model and grouping of students to increase the ability of mathematical representation.

Abstract

Teacher quality is one of the most influential factors in student learning. In-depth material knowledge (content) is very important for prospective teachers who will one day become teachers. Thus, analyzing and describing the Content Knowledge (CK) of prospective teachers needs to be done. The purpose of this study is to describe the CK of prospective elementary school teachers (SD/MI) on the material of fractional arithmetic operations. The subjects of this study were three students from Ar-Raniry State Islamic University of Banda Aceh. This research includes qualitative descriptive research, so that the data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data collection in this study was carried out through tests and combined with interviews so that the instruments used were test questions and interview guidelines. The study results indicate that the content knowledge of the three elementary teacher candidates was still weak, there were teacher candidates who did not understand the arithmetic operation hierarchy and still made carelessness in the concept of fractional arithmetic operations.

Abstract

Perkembangan di bidang teknologi informasi dan komunikasi dilandasi oleh perkembangan matematika di bidang teori bilangan, aljabar, analisis, teori peluang dan matematika diskrit. Untuk menguasai dan mencipta teknologi di masa depan diperlukan penguasaan matematika yang kuat sejak dini. kemampuan representasi dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah termuat pada kemampuan standar menurut Depdiknas dan NCTM dan merupakan kemampuan penting yang harus ditingkatkan oleh siswa. kemampuan representasi matematis diperlukan siswa untuk menemukan dan membuat solusi atau cara berfikir dalam mengkomunikasikan gagasan matematis dari yang sifatnya abstrak menuju konkret. Proses berfikir dalam pemecahan masalah memerlukan kemampuan mengorganisasikan strategi. Untuk meningkatkan kedua kemampuan matematis ini perlu adanya pembaharuan Pendekatan mengajar. Salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran matematika yang ditawarkan yaitu pendekatan problem posing. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMA kelas X pada SMA Negeri Unggul Harapan Persada Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya, dengan sampel dua kelas. Berdasarkanhasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan problem posing lebih baik daripada siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan  konvensional (0,005 0,05); (2) peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang  menggunakan pendekatan  problem posing lebih baik daripada siswa yangmenggunakan pembelajaran konvensional (0,026 0,05); (3) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis yang menggunakan pendekatan  problem posing dengan menggunakan pendekatan  konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis siswa [tinggi (0,145 0,05), sedang (0,001 0,05), rendah (0,035 0,05)]; (4) terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis yang  menggunakan pendekatan pembalajaran problem posing dan siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis siswa [tinggi (0,000 0,05), sedang (0,000 0,05), rendah (0,392 0,05)]

Abstract

The purpose of the mathematics learning basically to increase three aspects that are how to thinking and reasoning, to developing the ability of problem solving and to developing the ability of communication. But the fact is many students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Banda Aceh haven’t got those three aspects, especially to thinking and to solve the problem. It happens because the mathematics learning that teaches by the teacher didn’t implicate the student actively and didn’t give the chance to the student to solve the problem with some ways to solve, so the ability of creative thinking and the problem solving  of the students is not optimal. Cause of that implemented the learning which is help the student in develop the idea or the strategy and increase the activity that is the learning of the project based learning model. The purpose of this research is to knowing  the ability of creative thinking and problem solving of the student after applying project based learning model comparing with before applying project based learning model and correlation  between the ability of creative thinking and problem solving. This research is the experimental research with the research design one-group pretest-postt test group design. Population of this research is the students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Swasta Darul Ulum Banda Aceh, and the sample of this research  is the students in grade second-eight (VIII-2). Instrumental of this research consisted the test of the ability of creatively thinking and problem solving. Data Analyze does with quantitative using the t-test which is paired samples T-Test to testing the difference of the score that is got by the students before the test and after the test. The result of this research shows that the ability of the creative thinking  and problem solving of the student  after applying the project based learning model is better than before applying the project based learning model. Besides that, there is the correlation between the creative thinking abilityand problem solving of the student that is learnt through applying the project based learning. The correlation of ability of creative thinking and problem solving is in sufficient category.

Abstract

Relational understanding in mathematics is important for the student's it causes understanding the mathematical concepts will be memorable if he knows the process of getting the concept by linking it with the knowledge to be learned. This study aimed to examine the relational understanding of students in discovering the concept of f '(x) using Geometer's Sketchpad, and the relational understanding of students in discovering the concept of f (x) = x2 + c let f' (x) = 2x  using Geometer's Sketchpad.  It also investigated the students' responses when they use Geometer's Sketchpad in understanding the derivative function. The study used a qualitative approach. Subjects in this study were three Year 11 students of one the junior high school in Meuredu, Aceh, Indonesia. The instruments were observation sheet, interview guides, student worksheets and test questions. The data analysis included the classification of information obtained from observations when the subjects used software Sketchpad Geometers in their learning. Information about students' relational understanding obtained from the student worksheets reinforced with test questions and interviews so that the results can be accounted for. This study concluded that (1) students' relational understanding (Subjects RV, subject MR, subject AA) in discovering the concept of f '(x) using Geometer's Sketchpad was good; (2) students' relational understanding (Subjects RV, subject MR, subject AA) in discovering the concept of f (x) = x2 + c let f '(x) = 2x using Geometer's Sketchpad was a good; and (3) the responses of Subjects RV, subject MR, subject AA in using Geometer's Sketchpad were positive, each research subject was very pleased and liked to use Geometer's Sketchpad in understanding the derivative function.

Abstract

The aims of this study are to determine the improvement of critical thinking skills mathematical and metacognition of students who are taught with problem solving approach and the correlation between mathematical critical thinking and metacognition of students. This research is an experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample this research is the students of class VIII_2 and VIII_3 in SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh. Collecting data technique are test and nontest. Data were analyzed using t-test and correlation test. The result of the research shows 1) the critical thinking ability of the students who get the learning through problem solving approach is better than the students who get the conventional learning, 2) Metacognition of students who get the learning by using problem solving approach is better than the students who get the conventional learning, 3) a positive and significant relationship between students' metacognition and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of mathematical connection capability and self efficacy of students who have learned by Cooperative Learning Model Type Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE) compared to students who received conventional mathematics learning. Collection technique is done by doing test result of student learning and self-efficacy questionnaire of student. Data analysis of mathematical connection capability and student self-efficacy data were performed by using Independent-Sample t Test. The result of hypothesis testing shows that: (1) Improvement of mathematical connection ability of students who gain learning with RTE learning model better than mathematical connection ability of students who gain conventional learning; (2) Increased ability of self-efficacy of students who gain learning with RTE learning model better than the ability of self-efficacy of students who obtain conventional learning. Based on self-efficacy questionnaire indicated that students showed positive attitude toward mathematics learning using RTE Type Co-operative Model

Abstract

[Bahasa]: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah siswa sesudah penerapan model Project based learning dibandingkan dengan sebelum penerapan model tersebut serta korelasi antara kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan desain penelitian one-group pretest-postest group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa Madrasah Tsanawiyah Swasta Darul Ulum Banda Aceh sedangkan sampel penelitian yaitu siswa kelas VIII2 sebanyak 30 siswa. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah. Analisis data dilakukan secara kuantitatif menggunakan uji t yaitu Paired Samples T-Test untuk pengujian perbedaan skor yang diperoleh siswa sebelum pembelajaran (pretes) dan setelah pembelajaran (postes). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah siswa setelah penerapan model Project based learning lebih baik dari sebelum penerapan. Selain itu, terdapat hubungan antara kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah siswa yang belajar melalui penerapan model Project based learning. Hubungan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan pemecahan masalah berada pada kategori cukup. Kata kunci: Berpikir Kreatif; Pemecahan Masalah; Project based learning [English]: This research aims to understand the students’ creative thinking and problem solving ability after implementing project based learning compared to before implementation and correlation between creative thinking and problem solving ability. It is an experiment research with one-group pretest-postest group design. The population is all students in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Swasta Darul Ulum Banda Aceh, 30 students are selected as samples. The instruments used are creative thinking and problem solving test. Data analysis used t-test, i.e. paired samples T-test to examine score difference before the implementation of project based learning (pretest) and after it (posttest). The result shows that creative thinking and problem solving ability after implementation is better than before it. In addition, there is a correlation between creative thinking and problem solving ability in ‘enough’ category. Keywords: Creative Thinking; Problem Solving; Project Based Learning
