Abstract

CELLO is derived from Community English Language Learning and Orai. It is a new teaching method developed especially in the community of English language learning based on the idea of Curran’s work on teaching method. CELLO is a combination between an innovative teaching method and media technology called Orai Application that is applied in teaching and learning of speaking especially in fostering students’ fluency. Today, all graduates face a world transformed by technology, in which the Internet, cloud computing, and social media create different opportunities and challenges for formal education systems. This paper aims to explore the use of CELLO in assisting student’s speaking fluency. This classroom action research consists of three cycles in which each cycle consists of six stages, namely identify the problem, data gathering, data interpreting, action on evidence, evaluation, and revision. The obtained data showed that CELLO method could improve students’ speaking fluency.  Based on the finding, implementing CELLO method is strongly recommended in teaching speaking especially at fostering students’ speaking fluency.Keywords: CELLO; speaking fluency; technology 4.0; industrial revolution; action research.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan yang dilaksanakan pada tanggal 22 Juni 2021 di Auditorium Gedung Guru Cugenang, Cianjur, Jawa Barat ini memiliki dua tujuan yaitu 1) untuk mengenalkan dan menggunakan beberapa media pembelajaran digital interaktif dan 2) untuk mengintegrasian media ajar digital dan model belajar yang dapat menumbuhkan 4C yang dilaksnakan selama satu hari setara dengan 5 jam pelajaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah 1) tahap persiapan, 2) tahap pelaksanaan, serta 3) tahap evaluasi dan pelaporan. Berdasarkan kegiatan pelatihan yang telah dilaksanakan maka dapat dipahami beberapa hal. Pertama, pelatihan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan memotivasi dosen untuk memahami dan melaksanakan kewajibannya tidak hanya dalam aspek pengajaran tetapi juga mulai menggeliatkan kegiatan di bidang penelitian dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Kedua, pelatihan ini merupakan salah satu praktik nyata pembelajaran bagi mahasiswa yang terlibat dalam kegiatan dan memberi mereka pengalaman kegiatan kemsyarakatan. Mahasiswa tidak hanya dibekali pengetahuan namun juga dibimbing untuk mengimplemnetasikan di masyarakat. Ketiga, bagi guru khususnya guru PAI pelatihan ini dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan memotivasi guru untuk senantiasa mengembangkan kompetensinya sehingga guru dapat merancang dan menyajikan sebuah pembelajaran yang efektif dan kreatif yang mengarahkan siswa untuk memiliki kemampuan pendidikan Abad 21 yaitu kemampuan berpikir kritis, berkolaborasi, berkomunikasi dan berkreasi. The training activity, which was held on June 22, 2021 at the Auditorium of the Cugenang Teacher Building in Cianjur, West Java, had two objectives: 1) to introduce and use several interactive digital learning media, and 2) to integrate digital teaching media and learning models that can foster 4C. The training activity was carried out in one day, which is equivalent to 5 hours of lessons. The methods used in this training are 1) the preparation stage, 2) the implementation stage, and 3) the evaluation and reporting stage. Several things can be deduced from the training activities that have been completed. For starters, this training is effective in increasing knowledge and motivating lecturers to understand and carry out their responsibilities not only in the teaching aspect, but also in beginning to expand activities in the fields of research and community service. Second, this training is one of the genuine learning practices for students who participate in activities and gain experience in community activities. Students are not only given knowledge, but they are also shown how to apply it in the community. Third, this training can increase knowledge and motivate teachers to constantly develop their competencies. Therefore, teachers can design and present effective and creative learning that directs students to have 21st Century educational skills, such as the ability to think critically, collaborate, communicate, and be creative.

Abstract

Studying the second language (L2) was happens around the world because of some reasons such as education. Studying another language can be important in intellectual human activities after studying first language (L1). However using L2 is quite hard because some of them use L2 just for some their activities, not for the whole of their activities, such as students who use English only when studying English subject only or on the contrary. Nowadays, some people use two language at the same time, which is called code mixing. The use of two codes for communication can help them to make clear their explanation from another language that they used. The purpose of this research is concerning on the use of code mixing in college students’ presentation in Intercultural Communication class. Apart from that, there is an attempt to find out the language dominate in their presentation, the reasons of code mixing use in their presentation and the response of the audience about code mixing in presentation. The Method use is qualitative by using class presentation as the instrument, the writer collected the data of the college students’ presentation, questionnaire to the audience and interview to the presenters. The research findings showed that the languages dominate in the presentation are English language and Bahasa Indonesia equally. The reasons’ student in use code mixing is to make the explanation clear, and the response of the audience is 56.83% of the students give positive response in using code mixing of the presenter.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how the utilization of video subtitling in writing procedure text, what are difficulties the teacher and students encountered, and the benefits the students gained by implementing video subtitling in writing procedure text. This study is a descriptive qualitative study. To collect and analyze the data, the researcher used observation, interview, and questionnaire. This study was conducted in SMK Bhineka Nusantara Cianjur. The participants were an English teacher and ten students of tenth grade. The data from those instruments were transcribed and categorized accordingly. The findings show that the teacher applied several main steps in using video subtitling activity: introducing the application namely TikTok, explaining the purpose of TikTok application in teaching and writing procedure text, showing the simulation in translating the sentences and making subtitle with the application, downloading and installing the application, downloading the tutorial video, making the subtitle and inserting the subtitle to the video. The application helps the teacher in assisting remote classroom activity and delivered the material under the pandemic situation. In this case the students were enthusiastic when the teacher implemented the application and they felt familiar with it. However, the teacher and the students encountered some difficulties in writing procedure text using video subtitling: ineffective learning process monitoring by the teacher, internet connection problem, and difficult editing process. Albeit there were some difficulties, the students also gained number of benefits of using video subtitling in writing procedure text: more interesting learning activity, producing organized text and stimulating creativity, and vocabulary acquisition.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to analyze the similarity between human translation and machine translation to translate procedural text. This research uses Content Analysis approach (Content Analysis). The analysis was performed on English procedural text on a "VIXAL Lebih Wangi" cleanliness product translated into Indonesian by Nia Kurniawati (representing human translation). Meanwhile Google translation is used to represent machine translation. The study of the equations compared in this study is from the aspect of the phrase and the meaning of the whole sentence in the results of the two translations. The result of the discussion shows that the equation between human translation and machine translation in translating procedural text is low, i.e 29%. Machine translation still requires manpower to produce better translations. Keywords: equality aspect, human translation, machine translation, text procedure

Abstract

This study aims 1) to find out the effectiveness of Guessing Game implementation on teaching vocabulary, and 2) to find out the students’ perceptions of Guessing Game on teaching vocabulary. This study applied pre-experimental research method with one-shot case study design, where in this study the researcher only have one group without any control groups to make a comparison. The participants of this study are the entire students of the second grade in SMK PGRI 1 Pariwisata Cianjur consist of 58 students. Meanwhile in this study the researcher took the sample from the second grade of Banking Class in SMK PGRI 1 Pariwisata Cianjur that consists of 12 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used two instruments; test and close-ended questionnaire. The study conducted two times and ended by giving a test. Then, the result of the test showed that students’ average score is 81. It indicates that Guessing Game is effective on teaching vocabulary because the score is upper than the minimum completeness criteria (KKM). In addition, from the result of questionnaire the researcher categories the questions into three categories related to the implementation of Guessing Game; 1) Guessing Game is a joyful teaching technique, 2) Guessing Game is able to increase students’ confidence, and 3) Guessing Game is able to assist students memorize the vocabulary in longer time. Then, the result showed 100% students agree about that. Therefore, those data indicates that Ha of this study is accepted that Guessing Game is effective to increase students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This present research intent to discover the implementation of Virtual Reality (VR) media in supporting drilling strategy to teach English vocabulary to young learners modeled by a current teacher who is taking Independent Learning-Campus Merdeka (Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka or MBKM) as the participant of this study. She is holding a responsibility to teach English lesson to a school partnership. The school that is in partnership is Trikarya Public Elementary School of Cipanas district. This research collected the data through observation on teaching praxis using VR media. As the data were collected, the writer analyzed them. There were six steps in analyzing the data; (1) preparing the data to be analyzed, (2) reading or viewing all data, (3) coding the data, (4) generalizing the code, (5) creating tables based on the data code, and (6) interpret the data code. Over the observation the writers found a new procedure on implementing VR media in teaching English vocabulary to elementary students. There are three stages in this procedure that is called PMP. PMP stands for Pre-Activity, Main Activity, and Post-Activity. Furthermore, there are four activities in the main stage; Watch, Collect, Sharing, and Practice and hereafter is called WCSP. The last finding uncovers that the teacher is using drilling as the teaching strategy to activate the students.

Abstract

The intention of this article is to report one of Pejuang Muda program called Team Based Project in the form of empowering a poor family. After going through the stages of observation, interviews, and distributing questionnaires on problems to all sub-districts in the Sukabumi Regency area, it was determined that the program to be implemented by the Pejuang Muda of Sukabumi Regency was a humanitarian program in the form of provision to be given to Mrs. Kokob and Mr. Eman, a person with disabilities. The Poor Families empowerment program was implemented on the 16th of December 2021 in Darussalam Village RT 8 RW 6 Bantargadung Regency Sukabumi Regency West Java. The result shows that 1) The target of this program can be achieved properly according to planning and expectations. 2) Through this program Ibu Kokob can run a stall so that she can earn money from it for helping their daily needs. 3) The team of Pejuang Muda of Sukabumi Regency succeeded in conducting the Team Based project as one of the programs of Pejuang Muda. They were able to find the problem, set the solution, and solve the problem that occurred in the society

Abstract

As an English teacher in the era of industrial revolution 4.0 it is hoped that a teacher is able to apply any kinds of teaching media to create the teaching and learning atmosphere joyfully and to support in gaining the teaching and learning objectives effectively. There are numerous teaching media based on technology. One of them is Orai Application that is applied in teaching and learning of English especially speaking fluency. Today, all graduates face a world transformed by technology, in which the Internet, cloud computing, and social media create different opportunities and challenges for formal education systems. Higher education in the fourth industrial revolution is a complex, dialectical and exciting opportunity which can potentially transform society for the better. The fourth industrial revolution is powered by artificial intelligence and it will transform the workplace from tasks based characteristics to the human centred characteristics. This paper is aims to explore the use of Orai application in classroom teaching speaking in assisting student’s speaking fluency.

Abstract

Pejuang Muda  is a program initiated by the Ministry of Social Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology and the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia as a welcome form of the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program. The purpose of Pejuang Muda is to carry out learning outside the campus to produce students who have problem solver cycle skills, identify problems, plan programs, and implement programs. The learning was carried out in two parts, namely learning General Materials through online/online and Team Based Projects. Pejuang Muda program was focused on several categories, namely 1) Development of social assistance programs, 2) Empowerment of the poor and the elderly, 3) Healthy lifestyle and environmental hygiene and 4) Facilities for public use. This article intends to report the results of the implementation of social entrepreneurship training activities for members of Beneficiary Families (KPM) Sundajaya Hilir Village, Baros District, Sukabumi City. This activity was one of the learning outcomes in Project Based activities. The training was carried out using the problem solver cycle method which consisted of 3 steps; identify problems, plan programs, and implement programs. Based on the evaluation results, it is known that through the training activities the people of Sundajaya Hilir village feel motivated to make an effort to raise the family economy.
