Abstract

This article explored the phenomenon of abortion within which a health issue is embedded, both in modern medicine and traditional medicine which is very close to the culture of the local community. It described efforts of abortion treatment that act as a bridge between the roles of modern medicine and traditional medicine in the Yogyakarta region. Apart from the stigma of local community regarding abortion by women with unwanted pregnancy, this article aimed to eliminate inappropriate conceptions and practices that stem from misinterpretations of developments in science, technology, and media. Abortion at least represents a narrative and context in the medical studies, as well as opens up space for discussing the concept of women’s body health. The phenomenon of handling abortion in Yogyakarta with the ‘home abortion’ system through advertisements for ‘late menstruation’ or ‘late months’ has become part of the issue of women’s reproductive health. This step of self-abortion finally emerged with its optimism as a form of harmonization between modern medicine and traditional medicine in a broader context.

Abstract

Data Riskesdas tahun 2018 menunjukkan prevalensi balita stunting di Sulawesi Selatan sebanyak 35,7%. Untuk wilayah Kota Makassar tercatat 8.61% balita stunting. Berdasarkan data tersebut, pemerintah kota Makassar menetapkan upaya penurunan stunting fokus pada upaya pencegahan stunting sejak dini. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah melalui pelatihan kader Posyandu sebagai salah satu kelompok yang paling dekat dengan ibu dan balita di Masyarakat. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan oleh Jalin Institute bekerja sama dengan Tim PKK Kota Makassar. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan konseling kader posyandu dalam melakukan konseling gizi di masyarakat. Metode yang digunakan adalah pemberian edukasi dalam bentuk ceramah dan diskusi. Pada tahap evaluasi, kader mampu menjawab pertanyaan dan memberikan umpan balik dengan benar. Hal ini mengindikasikan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan setelah pemberian edukasi. Diperlukan komitmen semua pihak dalam upaya pencegahan stunting di Kota Makassar, termasuk dalam bentuk kegiatan pelatihan pada kader Posyandu yang dilakukan secara rutin.

Abstract

Stunting can cause delays in motor development which includes emotional development, behavior, and brain development among under-five children. Mother's knowledge is closely related to the nutritional status of the children. The inadequate practice of feeding infants and children (IYCF) is influenced by the mother's low level of knowledge. Therefore, this community service activity aimed to increase mothers' knowledge about the importance of balanced nutrition and improve mothers' skills in compiling a balanced nutritional menu from local food ingredients. This activity was carried out in Bajoe Village, Soropia District, Southeast Sulawesi. As many as 35 mothers were involved as participants. The form of this activity was counseling and practice of compiling a balanced nutrition menu. The counseling method was delivered in the form of lectures and discussions. The evaluation was done in the form of pre-test and post-test. The results of the pre-test showed the mean score was 76.28, and there was an increase in the post-test score to 93.43. It means that there was an increase in the score of 17.15 points. Assistance to mothers in providing a balanced nutritional menu is important to support the growth and development of children.   ABSTRAK Stunting pada balita dapat mengakibatkan keterlambatan perkembangan motorik yang meliputi perkembangan emosi, tingkah laku, dan perkembangan otak. Pengetahuan ibu sangat berhubungan dengan status gizi balita. Praktik pemberian makanan pada bayi dan anak (PMBA) yang kurang optimal dipengaruhi tingkat pengetahuan ibu yang rendah. Oleh karena itu,  kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan ibu tentang pentingnya gizi seimbang dan meningkatkan keterampilan ibu dalam menyusun menu gizi seimbang dari bahan pangan lokal. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Desa Bajoe, Kecamatan Soropia, Sulawesi Tenggara. Sebanyak 35 ibu balita terlibat sebagai peserta. Bentuk kegiatan ini adalah penyuluhan dan praktik menyusun menu gizi seimbang. Metode penyuluhan disampaikan dalam bentuk ceramah dan diskusi. Evaluasi dilakukan dalam bentuk pemberian pre- dan post-test.  Hasil pre-test menunjukkan rerata skor sebanyak 76,28 dan terjadi peningkatan skor post-test menjadi 93,43. Hal ini berarti terjadi peningkatan skor sebanyak 17,15 poin. Pendampingan pada ibu balita dalam memberikan menu gizi seimbang pada balita sangat penting untuk mendukung tumbuh kembang balita.

Abstract

The traditional knowledge about the use of ancestral medicines to cure children was highly valued by the indigenous community and an essential part of their indigenous health system. This study aimed to provide insight into the traditional medication using plant-based medication to children in an indigenous community in South Sulawesi Province. This study was conducted in Kaluppini Village, Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi. In-depth interviews and focus group discussions were conducted both in Bahasa Indonesia and the local language. Informants were traditional birth attendants and mothers of under-five. This study was carried out from January to June 2018. Data were analyzed using thematic coding. It is found that Kaluppini mothers have traditional knowledge of treatment. They used kinds of plants as traditional remedies to cure their children. This traditional medication named as pembollo’ and pejappi. Pembollo’ are traditional plants intended to cure sick children. Kaluppini people believe that pejappi is a collection of traditional plant that can treat kinds of illnesses among children, including to prevent them from supernatural things. Kaluppini indigenous people practice and believe in their traditional plants to cure their children. Traditional birth attendants play a crucial role in providing these traditional plants. Information provided in this study could be a rational basis for health-related stakeholders to develop programs of health education and promotion for indigenous communities.

Abstract

Abstrak: Stunting masih menjadi salah satu masalah prioritas Indonesia. Hasil SSGBI tahun 2019, sebanyak 40,38% balita mengalami stunting. Sulawesi Barat merupakan provinsi yang mempunyai prevalensi balita stunting terbanyak kedua setelah provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur. Salah satu intervensi yang dinilai mampu mengatasi masalah stunting adalah dengan pemberian ASI eksklusi secara optimal. Oleh karena itu Tim Pengabadian Masyarakat Poltekkes Kemenkes Mamuju melakukan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dalam bentuk pemberdayaan peran suami dalam upaya pemberian ASI secara optimal. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan tentang manfaat ASI dan keterampilan pijat oksitosin pada suami dan kader Posyandu. Kegiatan ini dilakukan bentuk health education yang diberikan kepada kelompok sasaran utama yaitu para suami dan kader Posyandu. Peserta diberikan pre-test dan post-test. Setelah pemberian penyuluhan dan simulasi pijat oksitosin, terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan peserta tentang manfaat pemberian ASI yaitu dari 30,7% meningkat menjadi 91,7% . Selain itu, peserta mampu melakukan simulasi pijat oksitosin dengan baik.Abstract: West Sulawesi is a province that has the second-highest prevalence of stunting after the East Nusa Tenggara province. One of the interventions that are considered capable of overcoming the stunting problem is optimally exclusive breastfeeding. Therefore, the Community Service Team of the Mamuju Health Polytechnic carried out community service activities in the form of empowering the husbands' role in optimal breastfeeding efforts. This activity aimed to increase knowledge on breastfeeding and to increase the skill on oxytocin message among husbands and Posyandu cadres. This community service activity was carried out in the form of health education which was given to the main target group, namely husbands and Posyandu cadres. Participants were given pre-test and post-test. After providing counseling and oxytocin massage simulation, there was an increase in participants' knowledge about breastfeeding, from 30.7% to 91.7%. Besides, participants were able to simulate the oxytocin massage well.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pada awal merebaknya virus corona, ada begitu banyak pertanyaan dan kekhawatiran tentang dampak Covid-19, termasuk implikasinya terhadap praktik menyusui dan PMBA. Sementara itu pelayanan kesehatan publik termasuk di Posyandu menyebabkan ibu menjadi kesulitan mendapatkan informasi yang valid secara langsung dari kader Posyandu. Oleh karena itu kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan kader posyandu dan ibu balita tentang praktik pemberian makanan pada bayi dan anak (PMBA) di masa pandemi Covid-19. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dalam tiga tahap, yaitu 1) tahap persiapan, 2) penyuluhan tentang praktik PMBA di masa pandemi Covid-19, dan 3) evaluasi dengan membagikan kuesioner post-test dan wawancara mendalam. Sebanyak 10 kader Posyandu dan 20 ibu balita yang lakukan sebanyak 4 kali selama bulan September-Oktober 2020. Evaluasi peningkatan pengetahuan dilakukan melalui pemberian pre dan post-test yang dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah penyuluhan. Terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan peserta sebesar 36% dengan kategori pengetahuan cukup baik. Hal ini sesuai dengan tujuan kegiatan pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan kader dan ibu balita di masa pandemi. Kegiatan edukasi dan promosi kesehatan dan gizi yang berkelanjutan perlu terus dilakukan dan lebih ditingkatkan khususnya selama masa pandemi Covid-19.Abstract:At the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, there were so many questions and concerns about the impact of Covid-19, including its implications for breastfeeding and IYCF practices. Meanwhile, public health services, including at Posyandu, makes it difficult for mothers to get valid information directly from Posyandu cadres. Therefore, this community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge of Posyandu cadres and under-five mothers about breastfeeding and IYCF during the Covid-19 pandemic. This community service was carried out in three stages, namely 1) the preparation stage, 2) counseling about ICYF practices during the Covid-19 pandemic, and 3) evaluation by distributing post-test questionnaires and in-depth interviews. There were 10 Posyandu cadres and 20 mothers that was conducted 4 times during September-October 2020. The evaluation of knowledge improvement was carried out through giving pre and post-tests which were carried out before and after counseling. There was an increase in the participants’ knowledge by 36% with a fairly good knowledge category. This is under the purpose of this community service activity which was to increase the knowledge of cadres and mothers during the pandemic. Sustainable health and nutrition education and promotion need to be carried out and further improved, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kader sangat berperan penting dalam pelaksanaan posyandu sebagai salah satu kegiatan pemantauan status gizi balita. Pengetahuan yang baik tentang gizi dan upaya pencegahan stunting akan membantu kader dalam memberikan penyuluhan kepada masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, sebanyak 5 kader perlu dibekali dengan pengetahuan tentang gizi dan kesehatan yang baik. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kader Posyandu dalam melakukan pemantauan pertumbuhan dan penyuluhan kesehatan kepada masyarakat sebagai salah satu upaya. Sasaran utama pada kegiatan ini adalah kader posyandu di wilayah lingkungan Kadolang, Mamuju. Peningkatan kapasitas dilakukan melalui tiga metode yaitu, edukasi, simulasi, dan pendampingan agak kader dapat mempraktikkan secara langsung pengetahuan yang telah diberikan. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dengan menggunakan edukasi, simulasi dan pendampingan. Metode tersebut dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kader posyandu dalam memantau tumbuh kembang balita dan melakukan penyuluhan kesehatan di masyarakat. Sebagai saran, perlu adanya pelatihan khusus pada kader tentang cara memberikan informasi kesehatan melalui media edukasi dan promosi kesehatan.Abstract: Cadres play an important role in the implementation of Posyandu as one of the activities to monitor the nutritional status of under-five children. Good knowledge about nutrition and stunting prevention efforts will assist cadres in providing counseling to the community. Therefore, cadres need to be equipped with adequate knowledge about nutrition and health. This community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres in monitoring growth and providing health promotion to the community. The main target for this activity was Posyandu cadres in the Kadolang village, Mamuju. Capacity building was carried out through three methods, namely, education, simulation, and assisting. Therefore, cadres can practice directly the knowledge that has been given. Community service activities using the combination of these methods can increase the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres in monitoring the growth and development of toddlers and conducting health education in the community. As a suggestion, it is necessary to have special training for cadres on how to provide health information through health education and promotion media.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pandemi Covid-19 yang terjadi sejak awal tahun 2020 berdampak pada sektor kesehatan dan ekonomi di semua lapisan masyarakat. Dampak nyata yang dialami oleh masyarakat adalah penurunan pendapatan yang berimbas pada tingkat ketahanan pangan keluarga. Keluarga yang memiliki tingkat pendapatan yang rendah akan memiliki kesulitan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan gizi bagi keluarga. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan keluarga dalam mengembangkan wirausaha keluarga bidang gizi dengan memanfaatkan pangan lokal yaitu daun kelor . Kegiatan ini dilakukan di dua kelurahan yaitu kelurahan Mamunyu dan Sinyoyoi Selatan yang diikuti oleh 30 peserta. Peserta adalah para ibu yang menjadi perwakilan rumah tangga . Kegiatan ini juga melibatkan unsur PKK, kader Posyandu dan aparat kelurahan agar kegiatan ini dapat berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan dalam bentuk ceramah dan diskusi. Selain itu, peserta juga difasilitasi dan didampingi dalam pengolahan bahan pangan lokal. Evaluasi yang dilakukan dalam bentuk pre dan post-test. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa 100% peserta mengalami peningkatan pengetahuan dengan skor benar >80% dan berhak memperoleh sertifikat penyuluhan keamanan pangan (PKP) dari Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Mamuju. Diharapkan pihak pemerintah dapat memfasilitasi para pelaku usaha keluarga tersebut dalam mengembangkan usaha mereka dengan mendukung dan mendampingi mereka hingga memperoleh no. PIRT pada usaha mereka.Abstract : The Covid-19 pandemic that has occurred since the beginning of 2020 impacts both the health and the economic sectors at all levels of society. The real impact experienced by the community is a decrease in income which impacts the food security level of families. Families who have a low-income level will have difficulty meeting their nutritional needs. This community service aimed to empower families in developing family entrepreneurs in the field of nutrition by utilizing local food, namely Moringa leaves. This activity was carried out in two villages, namely Mamunyu and South Sinyoyoi villages, which were attended by 30 participants. Participants are mothers who are household representatives. This activity also involves PKK elements, Posyandu cadres, and village officials so that this activity can be sustainable. The method used was counseling in the form of lectures and discussions. In addition, participants were also facilitated and assisted in processing the local food. The evaluation was carried out in the form of pre and post-test. The results of the evaluation showed that 100% of participants experienced an increase in knowledge with a correct score of >80% and were entitled to a certificate of food safety education (PKP) from the Mamuju District Health Office. It is expected that the government can facilitate family business actors in developing their businesses by supporting and assisting them to obtain PIRT number.

Abstract

Several studies have suggested that applying patterns of consumption of vegetables and fruit since children will positively contribute to vegetable and fruit intake through adolescence and adulthood. Therefore, efforts to increase vegetable and fruit intake since childhood urgent. Azria and Husnah's research results (2016) show that there is an influence of counseling on behavioral changes about balanced nutrition in infants. The results of Afif and Sumarmi (2017) research also show that there is a relationship between the role of mothers as educators with consumption of fruit vegetables in children associated with the supply of vegetables and fruit at home. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nutrition counseling on lecture and discussion methods on mother's knowledge of vegetable and fruit intake in elementary school children in Mamuju Regency. This type of research is experimental. This research was conducted at 001 Mamuju Public Elementary School as the location of the control group and Rimuku Inpres Elementary School as the location of the intervention group. The sample was divided into two groups, the first group as an intervention group was given lecture nutrition counseling accompanied by discussion while the second group as a control group was given lecture counseling counseling without discussion of mothers of elementary school children. The number of samples were 30 control groups and 30 intervention groups so that the total sample was 60 people. The results showed that there was an influence of lecture nutrition counseling accompanied by a discussion of mother's knowledge about vegetable and fruit intake in elementary school children (p <0.05). It is expected that nutrition counseling is carried out through lecture methods accompanied by discussions to increase mothers' knowledge about vegetable and fruit intake in elementary school children.

Abstract

Food safety is one of the people's concerns in buying and consuming food during the Covid-19 pandemic. This requires culinary entrepreneurs to meet food safety standards in the food processing system. This study aims to determine the food service system carried out by culinary entrepreneurs during the Covid-19 pandemic and in the era of new normal in Makassar City. With a qualitative approach, 33 informants were selected purposively to be involved in this study which was distributed into 17 in-depth interviews and 3 FGDs. Data analysis was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. This research found that culinary entrepreneurs applied health standards in their restaurants by providing handwashing facilities, barrier plastic, keeping tables/chairs apart, and requiring consumers to wear masks. Food processing requires food processors to use disposable plastic gloves and masks as well as tighter food packaging. It is concluded that culinary entrepreneurs have implemented safety and health standards in the food service system both in food processing and food packaging. It is highly recommended that culinary entrepreneurs perform routine cleaning and disinfecting at their restaurants so that efforts to prevent Covid-19 can be maximized, especially in the culinary business sector.
