Abstract

Abstract.The effectiveness of uncaria gambir leaves extract as inhibitor on carbon steel API 5L with heat treatment in NaCl 3% had been researched. The research was done by weight loss. Corrosion rate had been tested on carbon steel API 5L with heat treatment and carbon steel without heat treatment in NaCl 3% added by soursop leaves extract inhibitor for 168 hours with concentrations of 0%, 2%, 4%, and 6%. The result showed at carbon steel API 5L with and without heat treatment corrosion rate higher at concentration inhibitor 0% that is 0,051 mm/y. While corrosion rate lower at concentration inhibitor 2% that is 0,03%. Until, Efficiency higher at carbon steel API 5L with and without heat treatment in concentration inhibitor 2% that is 61,63% and 66,43%. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization result showed at carbon steel API 5L with heat treatment that the phase formed is martensite. At carbon steel API 5L with heat treatment that the phase formed is pure Fe. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) characterization at carbon steel API 5L with heat treatment showed even clusters and larger size, holes, cracks and grain boundary in the surface. At carbon steel API 5L without heat treatment showed uneven clusters and smaller size, holes, cracks, but grain boundary not showed in the surface. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) characterization on sample with inhibitor 0% obtained Cl element and Oxygen larger than inhibitor 2%. Abstract

The effectiveness of starfruitleaves extract as an inhibitor of St37 carbon steel in a corrosive medium of 3% NaCl had been researched. The concentration of starfruit leaves extract inhibitor was used 0%. 3%. 5% and 7% with immersion time of 4 and 8 days. Corrosion rate testing was done by weight loss method. The results of the research at each immersion time, showed that the optimum concentration of leaves starfruit extract to inhibit corrosion is 5% and the longer time immersion resulted in decreasing corrosion rate on St37 carbon steel. The maximum effectiveness of inhibitor occurred at 5% concentration with 8 days immersion time which is 78.57%. Characterization using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed that the surface of steel looks smoother with white on sampleSt37-8-5 and St37-4-5 showing that tannin in starfruit leaves extract has been adsorbed on the steel surface while St37 carbon steel on St37-8-0 and St37-4-5 has a black steel surface with holes and cracks. Characterization using Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) obtained oxygen element on sample St37-8-0 St37-4-0 greater concentration and Fe element smaller on sample St37-8-5 and St37-4-5.

Abstract

Abstract. Research has been carried out on the effect of the concentration of Kepok banana peel extract as an inhibitor on API 5L carbon steel in 3% NaCl corrosive medium. API 5L carbon steel immersion was carried out for 7 hours with two variations of immersion temperature, namely 40 and 80 oC and five variations in the concentration of corrosion inhibitors, namely 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%. Corrosion rate testing was carried out using the weight loss method. The results showed that the largest corrosion rates at immersion temperatures of 40 and 80 oC were at 0% inhibitor concentrations, namely 60.91 mm / y and 86.91 mm / y. Meanwhile, the lowest corrosion rate was at the inhibitor concentration of 8% at immersion temperatures of 40 and 80 oC, namely 32.51 mm / y and 63.92 mm / y. The greatest effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors occurred at a concentration of 8% at immersion temperatures of 40 and 80 oC of 56.63%, and 26.44%. The results of the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization showed that the phase formed was pure Fe. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) characterization showed uneven clusters and smaller size, holes and cracks were also less in 8% inhibitor at immersion temperature of 40 and 80 oC compared to inhibitor 0% at immersion temperature 40 and 80 oC.

Abstract

Corrosion inhibition of areca nut extract (Areca catechu) as the resistor of corrosion rate in low carbon steel with HCl and NaCl corrosive medium concentrated at 3% had been reasearched. The C-Mn steel corrosion rate was examined during a 96 hours of submersion with and without the addition of areca nut extract with the concentration rate at 10%, 15%, and 20% respectively. The examination was done with the weight loss method. The result of the research shows that the use of higher the concentration of areca nut extract resulted in the decrease of corrosion rate and the increase of corrosion inhibition capability. The highest rate of corrosion effectiveness was found in the 20% concentration in both HCl and NaCl with the rate of 86,06% and 85,62% respectively. The result of X-Ray diffraction (XRD) characterization showed that the phase formed was pure Fe. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) characterization showed uneven clusters with smaller size. Holes and cracks were not formed that the corrosion rate was lower compared to the sample without inhibitor addition. The characterization Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) in the sample without inhibitor showed the presence of Cl substance.

Abstract

The influence of electroplating time Zn-Mn to corrosion rate of AISI 1020 steel in corrosive medium NaCl 3% had been researching. This research used time variation 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 seconds. Corrosion rate testing is done by soaking the steel for 168 hours in corrosive medium NaCl and calculated with the loss of steel weight. The result showed that the longer electroplating time that used, caused the increasing of mass and Zn-Mn content of steel. It can make the corrosion rate will be decreased. The lowest corrosion rate obtained at 50 seconds electroplating time and 60 mA/cm2 current density is 0,059 mmpy. XRD characterization of steel without electroplating after corrosion rate testing showed the changing of phase from iron into oxide phase magnetite (Fe3O4). The analyze of metallurgical microscope showed the better layer with the increasing time, whereas after corrosion rate testing the steel surface were cracks.

Abstract

Avocado leaves extract (Persea americana M.) is used as an inhibitor to the sample of  SS-304 Stainless steel which cures in HCl 1M Corrosive Medium for 168 hours, the inhibitor concentration variation added 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and  10% respectively. The rate sample is measured by using lose-weight method. The results show the lowest samples is 0,37 mm/y of 6%  and the highest 10,75 mm/y of 0%. Inhibitor efficiency to the sample SS-304 Stainless steel potrays the effectively progress to 96,55% with  6% concentration. X-Ray Diffaraction Results accquired BCC and FCC  with Fe-a dan Fe-g phase along with SEM that forms agglomeration, cracked, and hole which result on its corrosion. In addition EDS contains Oxygen (O) and Chlorine (Cl) Element which indicate that stainless still has affected by corrotion. Thus from three samples which characterized and measured show that avocado leaves effectively as an inhibitor to the sample SS-304 stainless steel in HCl 1M corrosive medium

Abstract

In this research, the analysis of corrosion rate and hardness on stainless steel 304 and lateritic nickel steel in corrosive medium has been done. The lateritic nickel steel used has different Ni content of 0, 3, 4, 6, and 10%. The corrosion rate was calculated using the weight loss method while the hardness was measured by the Rockwell method. The test results showed that the corrosion rate was highest in samples immersed in the corrosive medium H2SO4 3.5% for 7 days, that is equal to 8.39 x 10-3 mm/year for the SS-304. For lateritic nickel steel, the highest corrosion rate occured in the sample with 0% Ni in corrosive medium H2SO4 3.5% which is equal to 50.85 mm/year. The hardness of the samples decreased after corrosion. The result of XRD analysis showed that SS-304 steel has an Fe-g (ferrite) and Fe-g (austenite) phase while the lateritic nickel steel has Fe phase. However, Ni phase was also formed in lateritic nickel steel with Ni content of 6% and Fe-g (austenite) phase in lateritic nickel steel with Ni content of 10%. The result of SEM characterization showed that the corrosion product formed is pitting corrosion with different hole diameter. The result of EDX analysis showed the presence of  elements of O, Na, and Cl on corroded samples in the corrosive medium NaCl 3.5%.

Abstract

The influence of electroplating time Cu-Mn to corrosion rate of Steel AISI 1020 in corrosive medium NaCl 3% had been researched. Corrosion rate testing is used weight loss method by soaking the samples in the corrosive medium NaCl for 168 hours. The results showed that the longer time electroplating that used, the corrosion rate will be decreased. This is because the growing number of Cu and Mn ions deposited on the surface of the sample after electroplating. The lowest corrosion rate obtained at the time of 50 seconds that is 0.098 mmpy. The analysis results of metallurgical microscope showed that the coating looks thicker with increasing time of electroplating, while after corrosion rate tested thecoatings being black and a few coating of samples were cracked due to corrosion.The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization result showed thatthe phase of AISI 1020 raw material after corrosion tested is changed from pure iron (Fe) to magnetite phase (Fe3O4).

Abstract

Papaya leaf extract used as an inhibitor in carbon steel sample AISI 1020, was immersed in a 3% carboxy NaCl medium. By varying the immersion time of 4 days and 8 days, and also the concentration of inhibitor 0%, 3%, 5% and 7%. After the treatment of the sample obtained the slowest corrosion rate calculation results in AISI 1020 4.5 samples and the fastest in the AISI 1020 8.7 sample. The inhibitor used has the most efficient efficiency value in the AISI 1020 4.5 sample and the inefficient value in the AISI 1020 4.7 sample. The XRD characterization results show that the crystalline structure formed is BBC with pure Fe phase. The SEM characterization shows the surface morphology of the steel sample, visible in the sample without the addition of more inhibitors than the sample with the added inhibitor. In addition, cracks do not appear on the AISI 1020 4.5 sample. Characterization of EDS in the sample seen elements of Oxygen (O) and Clorin (Cl) which indicates that the sample has been corroded.
