Abstract

The synthesis, phase structure and hardness analysis of cordierite ceramic has been done with addition of alumina 0, 20, 25, and 30wt%. Magnesium and alumina from Sigma-Aldrich has been used as raw materials while the silica was obtained from extraction of rice husk used 5% KOH and 10% HCl with sol gel method. This cordierite synthesis used solid state method and sintered at 1200oC for 3 hours. Hardness analysis was determined by Microhardness Tester while the phase structure was determined by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Hardness value that obtained for C0, C20, C25, and C30 were 50,03 : 52,44 : 35,69 : and 50,46 kgf/mm2 repeatedly. It was proved that excess alumina will increase hardness value. Abstract

Synthesis and characterization of silica rice husk blend asphalt was carried out with a mass ratio of 1;0; 1:1,5; 1:1,6 and 1:1,7 respectively. Rice husk was prepared by sol-gel method as a raw material of silica. Asphalt and silica is mixed by using the solid-sate method, which is heated with a temperature of 110 oC for 4 hours. This study was revealed to investigate the effect of the addition of silica from rice husk on microstructure and asphalt structure. SEM results show the morphology of the asphalt surface without addition of silica which transforms elongated folds and after addition of silica shows uncertain granules more likely seems clusters with grain size (1:1,5 = 4,298 m, 1:1,6 = 3,103 m and 1:1,7 = 5,328 m) respectively. The XRD results show asphaltene amorphous phase in the asphalt sample with two peaks at 2= 18,90 and 2= 42. Furthermore, the addition of silica with asphalt able to modify two asphaltene peaks into carbon and silica amorphous peaks.

Abstract

Research has been carried out with the aim of studying the formation of functional groups of a composite of silver silica (Ag/SiO2) based on rice husk silica and silver nitrate (AgNO3) as a precursor using the sol-gel method. Variations in the concentration of AgNO3 used were 0,3M; 0,5M; and 0,7 M with a thermal temperature of 850 °C. The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed the formation of Si-O-Si, Si-O, and O-N-O functional groups which were the result of AgNO3 residue indicating the presence of Ag.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of CaCO3 levels on the formation of superconducting phase BPSCCO - 2212 by calculating the level of purity of the phases formed and looking at the microstructure. The variation of CaCO3 was 0.95, 1.00, 1.05 and 1.10 mole using the wet mixing method. The samples were calcined at 800 ° C for 10 hours, and sintered at 820 ° C for 20 hours. Synthesized samples were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The XRD’s chacterization results show that the level of purity of the formed phases increases with increasing Ca levels with maximum point at BPSCCO-2212/1.10 mole. The highest volume fraction was 79,06% in the BPSCCO-2212/1.10 sample. While the lowest volume fraction was 72.10% in the BPSCCO-2212/0.95 sample. Meanwhile, the highest degree of orientation was 20.59% at BPSCCO-2212/0.95. The lowest degree of orientation was 8.46% at BPSCCO-2212/1.10. SEM’s chacterization results show of all samples have been oriented altought not perfect yet and have relatively little space between slabs (voids).

Abstract

Telah dilakukan sintesis dan karakterisasi aspal yang dimodifikasi dengan karbosil dan silika. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui mikrosuktur dan struktur komposit aspal karbosil silika dengan perbandingan komposisi berat yaitu 50:50:0; 42,5:42,5:15; 40:40:20; 37,5:37,5:25; 35:35:30; 32,5:32,5:35. Silika diperoleh dengan menggunakan metode alkalis dan karbosil diperoleh dengan metode pirolisis. Hasil analisis XRD diperoleh fasa yang terbentuk dari setiap variasi komposisi adalah fasa amorf. Analisis DTA/TGA menunjukkan terjadinya perubahan energi akibat penambahan panas dengan ditandai adanya penyusutan massa pada sampel. Variasi komposisi pada sampel menunjukkan terjadinya penurunan nilai pada kuat tekan, porositas dan perubahan ketebalan.

Abstract

Nanoparticle of silica from pumice rockhas been synthesizedby using extracted method of NaOH with varying of 2,5 Mand 3,5 M.The pumice was extracted using NaOH, silica titration usingH2SO4 and purification of silica using HCl. The solution was calcination at 700°C for 2 hours. The XRD result showed that diffraction pattern of amorphous silica. The EDS result confirmed the purity of silica for NaOH 3,5 M were 75,84%. Particle size from TEM result is(11,32 ± 0,922) nm for NaOH 3,5 M. The surface area for NaOH of 2,5 M and 3,5 M are 178,7 m2/g and186,2m2/g respectively.

Abstract

Synthesis and characterization of asphalt have been modified with silica and carbosil composite. This research was conducted to determine the functionality and microstructure of the asphalt-silica-carbosil composite with a weight composition ratio of 0:50:50; 15:42.5:42.5; 20:40:40; 25:37.5:37.5; 30:35:35; 35:32.5:32.5. Silica is obtained from rice husk using the sol gel method and carbosil was obtained by the pyrolysis method. The results of FTIR analysis obtained that the functional groups formed from each composition variation were O-H, C-H, C≡C, C=O, Si-O-Si, and Si-O. The results of microstructural analysis showed the presence of lumps scattered on the surface. The composition of the elements formed is dominated by elements of C, Si, O, N, and a little Na, K and S. Variations in the composition of the sample indicate an increase in the density value, a decrease in the value of water absorption and hardness.Telah dilakukan sintesis dan karakterisasi aspal yang dimodifikasi dengan komposit silika dan karbosil. Variasi komposisi sampel menunjukkan adanya peningkatan nilai densitas, penurunan nilai daya serap air dan kekerasan.

Abstract

Penelitian mengenai sintesis komposit perak silika (Ag/SiO2) telah dilakukan melalui metode sol-gel dengan menggunakan variasi konsentrasi koloid perak nitrat (AgNO3) yaitu 0,3; 0,5; dan 0,7 M ke dalam sol silika sekam padi dengan perlakuan termal suhu 110 oC dan suhu  sintering 850 oC. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu sebagai studi pendahuluan pembentukan struktur komposit Ag/SiO2 melalui karakterisasi X-ray diffraction (XRD). Analisis XRD menunjukkan bahwa jumlah konsentrasi AgNO3 mempengaruhi kenaikan intensitas pada 2θ. Pada konsentrasi 0,3 M struktur silika (SiO2) yang dihasilkan masih dalam bentuk amorf dan intensitas perak (Ag) tidak terlalu besar, sehingga dengan penambahan konsentrasi 0,5 dan 0,7 M intensitas struktur puncak silika sudah terlihat dan bertambahnya intensitas puncak dari struktur perak.

Abstract

The Research of the supercritical water reactor (SCWR) core design of the cylindrical core model (r, z) using the SRAC program has been done. The SRAC basic code was PIJ and CITATION. PIJ was used to calculate the fuel level and CITATION was used to calculate the reactor core level. The calculation of the reactor core has been done on the 1/4 cylinder core (r, z) and the geometry of the fuel cell was the cylindrical cell. Reactor fuel material was thorium burned 40 GWd/t and 30 GWd/t. The neutron parameters in this research were fuel enrichment, burn up, reactor core size, reactor core configurations, multiplication factor, and power density distribution. Multiplication factor (k-effective) in this research was 1.000004, which is reactor was in a critical condition. The reactor core in critical condition had the size of radius (r) was 130 cm, height (z) was 270 cm and fuel enrichment 2.8262%. The maximum power density was 130.0808 Watts /cm3 which was located at a radius of 25 cm and 135 cm high. The peak power factor in the radial direction was 1.6063 and the peak power factor in the axial direction was 1.3189.

Abstract

This research was carried out to investigate the effect of asphalt addition to thermal characteristics, functional groups, physical properties (water absorption, water content, and swelling thickness) of rice husk silica. The mass ratio of silica and asphalt alloys were 1:0; 1:0,4; 1:0,5; and 1:0,6. Silica and asphalt were mixed at 160˚C followed by calcination at 150˚C for 3 hours. Thermal characteristics and phase structures were analyzed using Differential Thermal Analysis/Thermo Gravimetrical Analysis (DTA/TGA), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). DTA/TGA analysis results show that the addition of asphalt causes a decreasing in mass, on set temperature, maximum temperature,  endothermic temperature And an increase in exothermic peak temperature. The results of XRD analysis showed that the addition of asphalt resulted in the appearance of amorphous carbon, shifting the range and the highest intensity of 2θ amorphous silica. The results of FTIR analysis showed that the addition of asphalt resulted in appearance the functional grups of C-H. The addition of asphalt causes a decrease in the value of water absorption, water content, and swelling thickness.
