Abstract

Abstract

Musala Al-Jazari is located in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau. Activity in musala every day produces a wastewater effluent. Wastewater directly discharged and allowed to seep in flooded soil without first processing that can affect groundwater quality. One of the appropriate technology is simple, inexpensive and easy in operation and maintenance system to reduce pollutants in wastewater was constructed wetland. The purpose of this study is to plan physical model of Sub Surface Flow Constructed Wetland (SSF-Wetland) field scale, determine the effectiveness of SSF-wetland in reducing water waste and calculate budget construction costs SSF-Wetland. Research using medium black soil and water jasmine plants (Alisma plantago). Water quality parameters tested were pH, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solid (TSS). The results of the study resulted in the highest efficiency value of 78.07% reduction in COD, TSS of 78.72% and an increase in the pH value of 27.59%. From planning SSF-Wetland obtained the total planned budget of Rp. 6,574,527.16. Overall the results showed that the constructed wetland besides being able to improve the quality of waste water can also beautify the area musala.  Keywords: wastewater, constructed wetland, alisma plantago

Abstract

The ability of fly ash to adsorp Cu(II) ions from two different coal combustion systems was studied. Optimum removal was found at pH 5, contact time 30 minutes and 60 minutes for Fly Ash 1 and Fly Ash 2, respectively, and dosage 10 g/l. The difference in adsorption capacity between both fly ashes may be due to their carbon fraction and CaO content. The removal of Cu (II) ions was caused by both adsorption and/or precipitation. Precipitation is enhanced by lowering the carbon fraction and increasing the CaO content. The adsorption isotherm showed that the Langmuir model fitted well to the experimental data of both fly ashes. A thermodynamic study was conducted at three different temperatures: 25 °C, 45 °C, and 60 °C. The adsorption processes were spontaneous and endothermic and were more favorable at higher temperature.

Abstract

Geopolymer is an environmentally friendly alternative construction material that is made from activation of source material with rich in silicon (Si) and alumunium (Al) by alkaline activator solution. This research using palm oil ash from Riau Province as based geopolymer mortar. Properties of geopolymer mortar that was studied based variation of modulus activator, dosage activator, curing temperature, type of processing ash, and rest period. Research showed that increasing compressive strength of geopolymer mortar influenced by increasing modulus activator, dosage activator, and curing temperature with optimum condition, as well as combustion of palm oil ash in furnace, and rest period of geopolymer mortar for 3 days.  Keywords: palm oil ash, geopolymer, modulus activator, dosage activator

Abstract

Nowadays, the pure water needs of PDAM Tirta dharma Duri is filled by PT CPI. In the dry season, the water supply is decrease cause about 8614 of costumers get lack of water. In content to fulfil the source of pure water so the company did the survey to investigate water resource around Duri to fill water into the company. This study aims to identify the technical proper of pure water from Jurong I, II, III, Petani and Sam-sam river. Quality of water is analyzed by taking the samples from the rivers then they subjected in physic and chemical parametric. Quantity of water is analyzed by Mock method to find the reliable debit with probability 90%.The finding showed that reliable debit of Jurong I, II, III, Petani and Sam-samriver is 0.743 m3/sec, 1.399 m3/sec, 12.824 m3/sec, 0.13m3/sec, and 1.032 m3/sec. water source quality for Jurong I, II, III, Sam- sam river including on class III, and Petani river on class II.  Key words: Mock Method, Quantity, Water Source,

Abstract

Peat water qualitatively still has constraints such as organic matter and high color, but the use of quantitative peat water has the potential to be processed into clean water. The aim of this study was to study the effect of variations in the dosage of starfruit extract and the speed of stirring on the removal of organic substances and the color of peat water by coagulation and flocculation using the starfruit extract of biokoagulant. This research was carried out with variations in the dosage of starfruit extract of 45 mL, 50 mL, 55 mL, 60 mL  and the stirring speed variations of 100 rpm, 125 rpm, 150 rpm respectively. The results showed the highest removal efficiency of organic matter and color occurred at a dose of coagulant 60 mL / L with a stirring speed of 150 rpm each of 82.23% and 47.22%.   Keywords: Peat Water, Dosage, Stirring Speed, Coagulation-Flocculation, Natural Coagulant

Abstract

Sago pulp is a waste from the sago starch industry. Sago pulp has not been used optimally and a small portion is used as animal feed, the rest is dumped into reservoirs or around rivers where sago is processed which can pollute the environment. Sago pulp can be used as solid fuel in the form of briquettes. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of sago pulp and analyze the potential for processing sago pulp into briquettes. The result showed the calorific value of sago pulp was 3383,51 cal/g. This result indicates that sago pulp can be used as a raw material for briquettes. Keywords: sago pulp, briquettes
