Abstract

This research explores the forms of politeness strategies in utterances of Otto Hasibuan in Judge Session of Mirna’s case. The research method of this research uses descriptive qualitative method. The subject of the research is Otto Hasibuan’s utterances in Judge Session of Mirna’s case. Furthermore, this research uses the Otto Hasibuan’s utterances containing politeness strategies. In collecting the data, the researcher uses noting and transcribing technique. Then, the data analyzing of this research are categorizing, data classifying, and data analyzing. The researcher watched the Judge Session, wrote down the script, translated the script, identified the Otto’s utterances, classified the script based on the forms of politeness strategies, then analyzed the data. In analyzing the data, it shows that the politeness forms used by Otto Hasibuan have ten typical speech acts: warning, asking (for permission), questioning, requesting, suggesting, agreeing, informing, criticizing, respecting, and thanking, which are categorized into five maxims: tact maxim, agreement maxims, opinion-reticence maxim, approbation maxim, and obligation maxim.

Abstract

This Study discusses WhatsApp conversations between students and teachers used while learning English used in teaching activities to determine the type of politeness used by students in WhatsApp conversations during English learning at the al-Lutfah Islamic school. This research uses descriptive qualitative as the research method. The research subject is Student and teacher, while the study's object is politeness strategies in conversation WhatsApp that may contain politeness. The data of this research is the WhatsApp conversation of having politeness strategies. It uses observation and takes notes to collect the data. The data analyzing method is metode agih. The participants of this research are teachers and students at Al-Luthfah Islamic school. The transcriptions were analyzed and discussed based on the politeness of Brown and Levinson (1987). This study's findings reveal the kinds of politeness types used by Al-Luthfah Islamic students to encode politeness or politeness. In the form of several messages when replying to several statements in the WhatsApp group. These expressions are in the form of greetings, gratitude, ask questions, express opinions, and several forms of these messages are stages of obtaining data, identifying data, looking for standards, classifying types of politeness, and finding their function of the politeness used. And analyze the data.

Abstract

This paper aims to present critical discourse analysis on Jokowi and Prabowo's tweets during the 2019 presidential election. This paper will focus on critical discourse analysis, especially on the discourse structure of Jokowi and Prabowo's tweets and the communication strategies used by Jokowi and Prabowo during the presidential election. This research uses qualitative methods. The data obtained by the researcher comes from tweets written by Jokowi and Prabowo during the 2019 presidential election campaign. The data collection method used is the observation method by observing Jokowi and Prabowo's Twitter accounts. After collecting the data, the researcher classified the discourse structure using Van Dijk's discourse analysis concept in Jokowi and Prabowo's Tweets. The results of this study found elements of macrostructure (theme), superstructure (scheme), and microstructure consisting of semantic elements (background, detail, intention, presupposition), syntax (sentence form, coherence, conditional coherence, distinguish coherence, disavowal, pronoun), stylistic elements (lexicon) and rhetorical elements (graphology and metaphor) in tweets written by Jokowi and Prabowo. Furthermore, Jokowi and Prabowo used strategic communication campaign stage 3, "Pramodel," during the presidential election. Joko Widodo used photos and videos of his story; meanwhile, Prabowo Subianto had much interaction with his Twitter followers.

Abstract

This study discusses parental perceptions in online learning that took place during the current Covid-19 pandemic. The method used by the researcher is qualitative research, and the data is taken through a questionnaire through the WhatsApp group and random interviews. So that the results obtained by parents' perceptions of online learning today are the lack of understanding of the material that the teacher provides to explain back to their children.

Abstract

The aim of this study is 1) to investigate the types and the forms of politeness strategies used by the English teachers; and 2) to determine the types and forms of politeness strategies frequently used by the English teachers in EFL based on Brown and Levinson politeness theory. This research is categorized as descriptive qualitative method. the data in this study are utterances uttered by the English teacher in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta. The researcher applies padan identity method. The researcher triangulated the data by asking at least one person to read the transcription. The conclusion that can be drawn is that there are three types of politeness strategies used by teachers in the EFL teaching and learning process at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta; namely negative politeness, direct politeness, and positive politeness. Whilst, the forms of politeness strategies used by the teachers in the teaching learning process in EFL at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta are imperative, declarative, and interrogative. In Addition, it is known that the most type of politeness strategy is negative politeness with a proportion of 41.67 percent and the most form of politeness strategy is imperative sentence with a proportion of 58.33 percent.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out the types of expressive speech act and the forms of expressive speech act in Mata NajwaTalkshow: Lakon Politik Republik Episode. It is interesting to analyze expressive speech since all the human beings are given a feeling by God and they tend to express their psychological feeling. Feeling is strictly related to expressive speech act. Kreidler and Frank’s theory about expressive speech act was used in this research .This research belongs to qualitative. Furthermore, the data of this research are the utterances containing expressive speech act in Mata Najwa Talkshow: Lakon Politik Republik Episode. In collecting the data, the researchers decide to use documentation technique.  The four researchers analyze the data by identifyingand classifying the data into types and forms of expressive speech act.  The results are 13 types of expressive speech act and 2 forms of expressive speech act are found in this research. The types are thanking, regretting, apologizing, praising, liking, disliking, approving, disapproving, condoling, criticizing, boasting, lamenting, blaming. The forms of expressive speech act found by the researchers are declarative and interrogative.
