Abstract

Virtual learning is one of the most effective and efficient learning methods, especially in improving skills including soft skills. In Indonesia, the problem-based learning methodology (PBL) is the most widely applied but has weaknesses in helping to bridge the students in the application of theory to practice. The purpose of this research was to develop learning method by using avatar-based learning to self-directed learning, which is one of the main competencies of nursing education that is lifelong learning. This study was quasi experiment with one group of intervention. Respondents in this study were nursing students of stratum 1 level four. The Self-Directed Learning Instrument (SDLI) was used to measure this research outcome. The paired t-test was used to evaluate the effectiveness of this method against outcomes. A total of 40 students agreed to participate in the study. Before intervention, the mean score for the total self-directed learning score was 72.3 (SD = 8.97). Based on the results of paired t-test about the effectiveness of real-avatar-based learning on self-directed learning, was found that after applied real-avatar based-learning for Medical Surgical Nursing III course there were an increasing of the self-directed learning (different value = 4.56, p value = 0.001). Learning method by applying real avatar-based learning was effective in improve student’s self-directed learning especially on the aspect of improvement of planning, implementation and self-monitoring. For further research, using more rigors with other outcomes is needed to reinforce the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract

Women with gynaecological problems are at high risk of having sexual dysfunction because the problems could affect the marital relationship and sexual satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between sexual dysfunction and marital relationships in women with gynaecological problems. This study was conducted using a cross-sectional study. The samples were women with gynaecological problems, aged above 18 years old, married, and able to communicate well. Patients with mental disorders were excluded from this study. Convenience sampling was used to select participants. The marital relationship was measured using a validated instrument, namely, Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS) and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). A total of 82 women with gynaecological problems joined our study. The majority of the respondents experienced sexual dysfunction (90.2%) and more than half of the respondents (52.4%) experienced distress in marital relationships.  There was a relationship between sexual dysfunction and marital relationship among women with gynaecological problems (p value < 0.005) and the coefficient correlation was 0.326. Sexual dysfunction may affect marital relationships in women with gynaecological problems. Healthcare professionals need to provide appropriate intervention to women with gynaecological problems as well as facilitate them to express their sexual activity.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major cause of premature death worldwide with a high prevalence and is one of the main risk factors for various chronic diseases such as heart and kidney disease. The Hypertension is a major cause of premature death worldwide with a high prevalence and is one of the main risk factors for various chronic diseases such as heart and kidney disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of an intervention that combines self-management on self-care and blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The type of research used is quaesy experience with two groups. The sample in this study were hypertensive patients in the work area of the puskesmas in Bandung, West Java. The inclusion criteria in this study were 35-85 years old, taking two or less antihypertensive drugs for hypertension, having a blood pressure of more than 140/90 mmHg. The number of samples is estimated to require as many as 66 hypertensive patients. Before the intervention, respondents showed lower self-care, with an average score of 1.35 (SD=0.73). The self-care score increased over time as respondents in the intervention group by 3.21 (SD=1.44), and respondents in the control group by 2.52 (SD=10.78) at T2. Blood pressure decreased at T2 in the intervention group with a systolic score of 128.1 (SD=11.62), and respondents in the control group got a systolic score of 137 (SD=15.15). The self-management program improved outcomes relative to controls at T1 across four outcomes: 1) self-care scores improved 8.7% (95% CI 0.021-0.149) and blood pressure slightly improved 8.8% (95% CI 0.017-0.125) . At T2, improvements in outcomes relative to controls were still observed in self-care scores and blood pressure. The results of this study will provide recommendations to hypertensive patients and health workers in Indonesia regarding self-management to control blood pressure, diet, and medication, so that they can be used in daily practice.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the highest cause of death in Indonesia, which is also known as the “silent killer. However, research focused on preventing cardiovascular disease in the elderly is still very limited. In Indonesia, there is no multi-domain intervention using the internet that is intended to improve pre-elderly health. The aim of this study was to design an internet-based multidomain intervention program to prevent cardiovascular disease in the pre-elderly. This study used a quasi-experimental pre-post-test design with two groups (intervention group and control group). The inclusion criteria in this study were: elderly aged 55-65 years, had at least two risk factors for cardiovascular disease (such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, smoking, inactivity, DM, history of cardiovascular disease) previously to participate in the study. The sampling technique that will be used is the convivence sample with a total sample to be recruited is 100.The results of this study will be very useful as a guide for pre-elderly and health workers in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. It is hoped that the results of this study can be used as material for health policy makers in Indonesia to make guidelines and recommendations for disease prevention management in the pre-elderly.

Abstract

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease caused by a decrease in the amount of dopamine in the brain that plays a role in controlling movement due to damage to nerve cells in the Substantia Nigra Pars compacta (SNc) in the brain stem and abnormal protein aggregation in the form of Lewy bodies, which contain -synuclein. Parkinson's disease is characterized by the presence of dominant motor symptoms in the form of tremor at rest, rigidity, bradykinesia, and loss of postural reflexes. Physical rehabilitation can generally be used in patients with Parkinson's disease to improve health and relieve symptoms. Aerobic exercise is believed to promote fitness in Parkinson's patients and improve motor function in the elderly with Parkinson's disease. The purpose of this literature review is to determine the effectiveness of providing aerobic exercise in improving motor function in the elderly with Parkinson's disease. The implementation strategy uses a literature review technique obtained through an online search process on related research journals that have existed previously. The search was carried out through the PubMed database. Giving aerobic exercise is effective in improving motor function in the elderly with Parkinson's disease.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the highest cause of death in HIV patients compared to the general population. The number of HIV patients suffering from cardiovascular disease is almost twice as high as patients who are not HIV-positive.The purpose of this study was to identify the risk of cardivascular disease in patients with HIV using ECG short term. This study was used a descriptive comparative to patients with HIV and healthy people as controls in West Java. The inclusion criteria are patients with HIV over the age of 30 years. The exclusion criteria were people with HIV diagnosed with heart disease or being treated for the heart disease. While the inclusion criteria for healthy people as controls are over 30 years of age, do not suffer from cardivascular disease or under treatment of cardiovascular disease. The measurement of heart rate variability is carried out in a supine position in a quiet temperature-controlled room (25-270 C), a 5-minute electrocardiograph (ECG) is recorded using lead II. Differences of heart rate variability indicator were measure using man-whitney test. A total of 20 patients with HIV and 20 healthy people recruited using convinience sampling. The majority of people with HIV were male and aged range between 27 to 51 years old. The results of heart rate variability based on time domain analysis showed that the means normal to normal (NN) was significantly lower in HIV patients compared to controls (978 vs ?? vs 902 ms; p<0.05). No differences were found between groups regarding Standard deviation of NN (SDNN), Square root of the mean squared difference of successive NN-intervals (RMSSD) and Percent of differences between adjacent NN intervals greater than 50 ms (pNN50). This study presence of autonomic dysfunction as showed in heart rate variability indicator in a group of HIV compared to the healthy group. Eearly identification of the risk of CVD is important and may inform the implementation of preventive measure by identification of high-risk people who may be candidate for intervention.

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is a disease caused by the misfunctioning of the heart and blood vessels. Atherosclerosis is the main cause of cardiovascular disease. Prevention and control of cardiovascular disease can be done with early detection through screening activities. Framingham Risk Score using Body Mass Index (FRS BMI) risk assessment is very useful and easy, which is used without using lipid indicator. This study aims to estimate the risk of cardiovascular disease on patients with hypertension with Framingham Risk Score BMI.Methods: The study used a descriptive method with cross-sectional design. The samples in this study were 130 respondents who were selected using consecutive sampling and retrieval technique by using FRS BMI application questionnaire. Results: There were 11.5% respondents in low risk of CVD, 22.7% respondents at moderate risk and 60.8% respondents in higher category of cardiovascular disease 10 years later. Conclusion: Majority of patients with hypertension showed a high risk of CVD for the next 10 years. Patients’ sex and age also play an important role to increase the risk, whereby men show a higher risk of CVD for the next ten years. The hospital management and health worker should pay more attention and educate the patient about the prevention of heart disease for the next 10 years, especially for those with high risk of CVD based on FRS BMI measurement.
