Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the life skills of students in learning chemistry and reveals the connections between life skills. The methods used in this research is descriptive research. The subject of research as much as 144 students of class XI in one of senior high school in the city of Padang. The selection of samples was conducted with stratified random sampling technique that divides students into 3 groups based on the level of their intelligence (IQ). Research data taken with observation, interview guidelines and tests of the student’s life skills. The results showed that the personal skills for students classified as well. The social skills of students is very good, students are able to manage their emotions very well, able to communicate well, has good interpersonal relationships, and understanding the other person very well. Student's academic prowess is quite good the ability of critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, and decision making students are on a category is good enough. The connection between life skills showed that a) there is a weak relationship between personal proficiency students with social skills among students with the values of the coefficients of correlation 0.33, b) there is a very weak relationship between students personal skills with the academic skills of students with the value of the correlation coefficient 0,004, and c) there is a very weak relationship between social skills among students with the academic skills of students with the value of the correlation coefficient 0,062.

Abstract

During learning process students tend to be passive and memorize with teacher’s explanations. This causes students’ critical thinking skills in finding solutions problems that do not develop optimally. Qualitative descriptive research aims to describe students’ critical thinking at XI IPA 1 grade of SMAN 7 Padang skills in solving chemistry problems on reaction rate material. The research sampling technique used purposive sampling in the XI IPA 1 grade with 38 students. The research data will be analyzed using the qualitative analysis technique of the Miles and Huberman (1984) model consists of data reduction, data display and verification. The research instruments are problem test with 5 questions referring to critical thinking indicators by Ennis (1985) including elementary clarification, basic support, inference, advanced clarification, strategies tactics and interviewing selected students. The results showed that RF subjects of students with high critical thinking skills 4 critical thinking indicators, such as elementary clarification, inference, advanced clarification, strategy and tactics. AM subjects with medium critical thinking skills fulfill 3 critical thinking indicators, elementary clarification, basic support, and inference. While the subject of AZ students with low critical thinking skills only fulfills 2 critical thinking indicators, constist of advanced clarification ,strategy and tactics. Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental research. This study was conducted to reveal how the students' learning outcomes on hydrocarbon compounds were compared when using an electronic module with a conventional module with a guided discovery learning model in class XI of SMAN 3 Pariaman. This study used a two-group pretest-posttest design with 66 students in class XI MIPA 1 and XI MIPA 2 at SMAN 3 Pariaman for the academic year 2022/2023. Class XI MIPA 1 is used as experimental class 1 using electronic module teaching materials, while class XI MIPA 2 is used as experimental class 2 using conventional module teaching materials. The data obtained from student learning outcomes in the experimental class 1 is 80.3030 and in the experimental class 2 is 71.8181. From hypothesis testing with a significance level of 0.05, it was obtained tcount < ttable (1.59 < 2.04). So in this study H1 was accepted. Thus, there is a significant difference in learning outcomes between classes using electronic modules with guided discovery learning models and classes using conventional modules with guided discovery learning models on hydrocarbon compounds in class XI IPA SMAN 3 Pariaman in the 2022/2023 academic year.
