Abstract

The research was conducted in seventh semester students of Prose Course English Department of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The objective of this research is to know whether there is the influence of story maps strategy towards students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. The samples of this research was two classes. The first class was VII (A) as the experimental class and the second class was VII (B) as the control class. The experimental class consisted of 32 students and the control class consisted of 32 students. In this research, the researcher used experimental method. In collecting the data, the researcher used reading test with the form of multiple choice and consist of four options. Based on the data analysis, the value of t-test is 6,41 and t-table is 2,66. It means that t-test is higher than t-table (6,41>2,66) in significant level 0,05. So, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and hypothesis alternative (HI) is accepted. Finally, the researcher concluded that there is a significant influence of teaching reading comprehension in narrative text through Story Maps Strategy in English department students of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung in academic year 2018/2019.

Abstract

The study aimes to analyse inflectional morphology used in students’ writing. It is qualitative study. There were 73 students the fourth semester of English department of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung who were taken purpossively as the sample. It is found that, from 554 sentences, there are 17.15% (or 95 words) errors made by the students in the forms of nouns, 19.13% (or 106 words) errors in the forms of pronouns and determiners, 96.2% (or 533 words) errors in the forms of verbs, and 2.53% (or 14 words) errorrs in the forms of adjectives. Based on the results, it is known that the EFL learners mostly made errors in using verbs in the term of infectional mophology.

Abstract

This research aimed to know the influence of comic strips towards students’ reading comprehension. This technique helped the students to comprehend the story by imagining it with the strip of pictures. The objective of the research was to know the influence of comic strips towards students’ reading comprehension in recount text. In this research the writer used experimental method or known as descriptive quantitative research. The population was 48 students in 2 classes. The sample was taken by using Total Sampling Technique. The writer took all of the classes as the sample of research namely experimental and control class. It consisted of 45 students; the other students were absence. The main technique in measuring students’ reading comprehension was multiple choice which consisted of 40 items test. Each item has four options a,b,c, and d. The score each item was 2.5. In calculating the data analysis, the writer used t-test formula. Based on the data analysis, the writer got the result that was accepted. It was obtained that = 4.45, for α= 0.05 was 1.68 and for α=0.01 was 2.42 (4.45 > 1.68 < 2.42). So, was accepted. It meant that there was significant influence of comic strip toward students’ reading comprehension on recount text at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung in 2021/2022. Based on the result of the research, it is clear that comic strips had an influence to the students’ reading comprehension, especially in recount text.

Abstract

The study was aimed to increase students’ reading comprehension through Guided Reading strategy at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Natar 2021/2022. The subjects of research were 35 students. The research was focused to increase students’ learning activities and students’ reading comprehension. The improvement of students’ reading comprehension showed mean score in pre-cycle was 58.71, there were 10 students or 28.57% who achieved target score of Minimum Mastery Criteria. The mean score in cycle 1 was 72.14, there were 20 students who achieved score above Minimum Mastery Criteria or 57.14%. The improvement of pre-cycle to cycle 1 was 13.43 or 28.57%. The mean score of cycle II was 81.82, there were 29 students who achieved score above Minimum Mastery Criteria or 82.85%. The improvement of reading test from cycle 1 to cycle 2 was 9.68 or 25.715%. While, from the students’ learning activities, the improvement of students’ learning activities showed mean score of students’ learning activities in cycle I was 7.26 with the criteria was quite active. While, the mean score of students’ learning activities in cycle II was 7.89 with the criteria was active. It could be concluded Classroom Action Research by conducting Guided Reading strategy improved students’ reading comprehension and students’ learning activities.
