Abstract

This study aimed at investigating teaching strategies and their implementation in EFL inclusive classrooms at one of the junior high schools in Curup-Bengkulu, Indonesia. To garner credible data as desirable, an instrumental case study was conducted by engaging two EFL teachers selected purposively at that school. Interview and observation were deployed as the techniques of collecting data. This study revealed that the teachers applied four teaching strategies ranging from active learning, peer-tutoring, cooperative learning, to direct instruction. Despite many more inclusive teaching strategies which were left aside, the limited extent of inclusion-related pedagogical knowledge and experiences, inadequate reflective teaching, and limited facilities and infrastructure promoting inclusive education, the EFL teachers had been able to implement the aforesaid strategies properly. They had demonstrated that they were sufficiently skillful at the detailed procedures of the implementation of the four strategies in the EFL inclusive classrooms. Further studies are expected to address the application of more instructional strategies for inclusive classrooms such as those suggested by Lawrence-Brown (2004). Revealing both qualitative and experimental data associated with those instructional strategies will be very contributive and meaningful.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between minority Muslim families and those of non-Muslims in Banjarasri, Kalibawang, Kulon Progo Yogyakarta; and to find out the religious diversity motivation of the Muslim families. This study used descriptive qualitative method by applying a phenomenological approach. The data were garnered using observation and interview. This study revealed that the acculturation of arts, cultures, and social community made Muslim families and non-Muslim families live side by side. The religious motivation of Muslim minority for the sake of maintaining their faith rested upon both extrinsic and intrinsic motivations. Extrinsically, it could be seen from the strong influence of the mosque administrators, the power of various religious activities to enhance religious awareness, and the solid cohesiveness of the group to strengthen as well as protect religious motivation. Intrinsically, the religious motivation of Muslims in Banjarsari was basically the effect of self-awareness by reasons of their minor position, so that such motivation yielded strong inner capacity from each Muslim family to revive and get more deeply into Islam.

Abstract

This study explains how the existence of Tabut is interpreted so that it becomes a tradition in the Sunni’s community. It is important to understand how this ritual is maintained in the midst of the Sunni-Shia’s conflicts which continue to occur. The present study was qualitatively conducted using a field research method. The members including the leaders of Keluarga Kerukunan Tabut (KKT) and those of Tabut Pembangunan as the community handled by the government were engaged as the participants of this study. The data collection techniques deployed interviews, observations, documentation, and literature reviews. The present study revealed that the existence of Tabut’s tradition which is claimed to be a tradition originated from Shia’s teachings is able to maintain its presence in Bengkulu. This existence survives in the middle of Bengkulu’s society that is predominantly Sunni. This tradition is capable of being a peaceful path between Sunni and Shia in Bengkulu because each of them succeeds in creating social interactions through the Tabut’s tradition as human relations and the symbol they interpret. As an implication, this study highlighted that a religious or cultural activity can be a medium of social bondage in the midst of cultural diversity. This study contributes to being a reference for those who have interests in anthropological, social, and religious fields.

Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, learning has shifted from offline to online, affecting pupils' learning resilience and the complexity of learning obstacles. As a result, the focus of this study is on English students' resilience and the obstacles they experience during distance learning. This study used qualitative methodologies and included 20 English students who were purposefully chosen as participants. They were questioned in accordance with the study's objectives. An interactive model was used to analyse the interview data. The data suggest that in remote learning, students' self-control is lacking. They are under psychological duress. Their physical state was deteriorating, and several of them were experiencing headaches. They are mentally bored and unable to concentrate, and they cannot enjoy learning due to a lack of social interaction. Furthermore, students encounter issues connected to internet signals, budgeting to meet internet demands, and difficulty in locating learning resources during remote learning, all of which are classified as examples of poor technical competence.

Parenting styles had a positive and significant impact on Islamic students’ academic achievements. Islamic students’ personality traits had a positive and significant impact on their academic achievements. Lastly, both parenting styles and Islamic students’ personality traits had a positive impact on Islamic students’ academic achievements. It is recommended that further studies be undertaken in wider contexts across diverse students’ characteristics for the sake of revealing different data conditions and meanings.

Abstract

The compatibility of Islam and Pancasila, the Indonesia’s national philosophy, is still interesting to elaborate even though there have been numerous discussions on the theme. Notably, this paper addresses the harmony of Pancasila and Islam as the umbrella for nationhood and statehood in Indonesia. The writers argue that Pancasila and Islam coexist harmoniously in Indonesia, and this kind of harmony is a valuable esteem to reinforce unity, diversity, and cultural heritage within the society. The acculturation of Pancasila is an effort to integrate its values into daily life through traditions and practices involving various stakeholders. This acculturation will encourage acceptance of diversity and prevent religious extremism. On the other hand, conflicts between political Islam and nationalist groups in Indonesia affect cultural-religious expressions and disrupt harmony. Pancasila is vital in addressing these conflicts and promoting diversity and ongoing dialogues.

Abstract

Type of nomophobia emerges from the prevalence of excessive use of smartphones. The Nomophobia Instrument (NMP-Q) has been adapted across several countries and languages. Still, there have been few studies that have adapted and tested the psychometric properties of the NMP-Q. Thus, this study aimed to linguistically and culturally adapt and validate the Indonesian version of NMP-Q (NMPQ-10). The adaptation process involved experts in language and psychology. The NMPQ-10 in the Indonesian version was validated by involving 276 college students from public universities in Indonesia aged 17 to 24 years old. The results revealed that empirical data supported the overall measurement model of NMPQ-10. The internal structure of NMPQ-10 in the Indonesian version was similar to that of the original version. The Indonesian version of NMPQ-10 also had high psychometric properties, as indicated by the composite reliability (CR) of 0.932 and a Cronbach Alpha of 0.97. Both were classified as high and evident in internal structure (satisfactory construct validity and convergent validity). This study has important implications for counseling practice, as counselors can use the NMPQ-10 to identify individuals experiencing high levels of nomophobia and guide interventions and treatment plans accordingly. In conclusion, the Indonesian version of NMPQ-10 can be utilized to assess nomophobia among college students. Further studies are needed to include a larger sample to improve the validation of NMPQ-10.
