Abstract

Amebiasis is one of the gastrointestinal tract infection disease caused by Entamoeba histolytica ,a parasitic protozoan. Amebiasis is the second disease, caused by parasite, that leading cause of death after malaria. Infection occurs through faecal-oral route and after ingestion a contaminated food and beverages by human faeces. The pathogenesis of E. histolytica can be classified into 3 processes, i.e: death of host cell, inflammation, and parasitic invasion. The recent years, a molecularly amebiasis pathogenesis has been developed, i.e: adherence, phagocytosis, tropogocytosis of host cell and how the parasites can survive and attack host cells so it can cause an infection in humans. Molecular development is an important thing to be considered in the selection of amebiasis therapy.

Abstract

Background; Adiponectin is an important adipokine with anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizing effects, the circulating levels of which are reduced in individuals with type 2 diabetes and obesity. Indeed, there is evidence that adiponectin released from perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT), that may play a key role in vascular physiology, as bioactive molecules released from it could have direct paracrine effects on the underlying vessel. The present study investigated the effects of extract Nigella sativa (N. sativa) on blood glucose levels of diabetic mice. Materials; Eight-week-old male musmusculus were treated with alloxan (150 mg/ kg) by a single intraperitoneal injection to induce diabetes mellitus. At 3 days of injection, N. sativa extract (150 and 300 mg/kg) was administered via gavage for 2 weeks. Results: The extract of N.Sativa administration significantly reduced blood glucose level (P < 0.05). However, N.Sativa did not alter a body weight Conclusion: Extract of Nigella Sativa improved blood glucose level in diabetic mice model.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a SARS virus infection that has spread throughout the world including in Indonesia. The existence of this pandemic has a significant impact on all countries, such as health, economy, education, and all supporting sectors of a country. In Indonesia itself adapting the New Normal to deal with this global pandemic. New Normal is associated with new habit changes that also impact the health level of children. So, the purpose of community service (PKM) is to provide education as an effort to increase the child's immune system in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. This PKM is implemented at the Baca Rumah Kita Foundation in the Mejoyo Tenggilis sub-district. This PKM is carried out by presenting counseling to school-age children with interactive methods and games as well as health checks as screening and providing supplements to improve the child's immune system. Based on the PKM results, it was found that the children were enthusiastic about this activity. From the results of health screening, participants aged 5-10 years were 84.21%. With a nutritional status of 47.37% less, 15.79% less nutrition, 26.32% good nutrition, and 10.53% over nutrition. Based on the results of this screening, it can be used as a measure that the growth and development of children in this region needs special attention, especially during the current pandemic.DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/abdimas.v6i2.5001

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a complex metabolic disorder that is caused by obesity. Body mass index could be simple indicator and very recommended for assessed nutritional state. This study aim to found correlation between nutritional state using BMI to total metabolic syndrome in Pesantren Al Hidayah Kabupaten Ngawi, East Java. Beside, this study is expected could give information for medical officer, especially in Kabupaten Ngawi area as a strategy to prevent metabolic disorder and as new knowledge for peoples in Pesantren Al Hidayah area. Study design using analytic descriptive. Study run in Juni-July 2018 with participants came from population in Pesantren area. We get data about abdomen circumference, body weigh and height, blood pressure, and blood glucose. From 72 participants, 3 participants is suspected suffer from metabolic syndrome, while 61 other was not. The results did not show significancy in statistic. However, the others study showed significant result for correlation nutritional state and body mass index.

Abstract

Backround: Celery (Apium graveolens L., Apiaceae) is one of the medicinal plants with secondary metabolite components that have pharmacological effects such as vitamin (choline) content. This study aims to evaluate the mechanism and interaction of choline contained in celery on its effectiveness as a neuroprotective. Methods: This research is an experimental research using the in silico study. Results: The insilico search found that the choline content in celery binds to Slc5a7, Chat and Ache. Which has a function in the process of neurotransmitter biosynthesis, neurotransmitter metabolic processes and neurotransmitter secretion processes Conclusion: The celery (Apium graveolens L., Apiaceae)  have pharmacological activity as neuroprotective through the interaction of Slc5a7, Chat and Ache

Abstract

Chronic stress exposure plays a role as a risk factor for depression. In chronic stress, there is prunning of nerve cell dendrites so that depression becomes irreversible. Depression is caused by low serotonin (5-HT2) neurotransmitters in the postsynaptic cleft. Recent findings in experimental animals indicate that serotonergic preparations are required to increase serotonin levels in the synapse opening, thereby triggering the formation of new dendrites to make depression reversible. The different results when these preparations create resistance in cases of chronic depression and actually increase the risk of uncomfortable and even fatal side effects with long-term use. This Systematic Literature Review uses the PubMed and Google Scholar databases for the period 2015-2020. A total of 322 articles at the beginning of identification and those that met the inclusion criteria in this study were six articles. The results of data extraction showed that the depression condition caused by various stressors resulted in BDNF levels in the hippocampus decreased significantly by p≤0.005. Based on the literature study, it was concluded that in depressive conditions, BDNF levels in the brain decreased.

Abstract

Introduction Hypercholesterolemia contributes as a risk factor for endothelial dysfunction in the kidneys and worsens the condition of patients with previous kidney damage. This study aimed to examine the effect of hypercholesterol diet in kidney structure. Methods: This was an experimental study, a case control using eight-week-old Rattus novergicus, divided into control and treatment group. High-fat diet (HFD) was administrated orally to treatment group for 14 days. All data statistically analyzed with two-paired ANOVA and post hoc for comparison. Results: Histological analysis using hematoxylin-eosin staining showed degeneration in nephrons, including glomerulosclerosis, segmental necrosis and tubular defects. The mononuclear cell infiltration was Increased in HFD group significantly (P<0.05).Conclusion: We concluded that a high fat diet induced obesity and may lead to renal deformities as a result of histopathological changes such as dilatation, tubular defects, inflammation and connective tissue enlargement of the kidney.
