Abstract

This study is aimed at examining the effectiveness of using professionals in giving career information to increase the high school students' career maturity level. The study was an experimental in nature using 60 samples. In the experimental group the career information was delivered by professionals who were successful in their careers, while in the control group the information was given through the packet book (conventional technique).The sampling technique used was the multi-stage random. The instrument employed was the Career Maturity Scale. The data analysis was done using statistical t-test. The result indicates that the career information delivered by professionals is more effective than given through packet book.

Abstract

Abstrak. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan, pengetahuan, dan skill guru-guru SMPN 4 SATAP Bungoro dalam menulis dan menyusun karya ilmiah dalam bentuk penulisan proposal PTK. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan selama seminggu dengan menggunakan metode kuliah, tanya jawab, diskusi, praktek penyusunan proposal PTK, dan tugas mandiri. Pada akhir kegiatan ini, sebuah evaluasi dilaksanakan oleh tim sebagai bagian untuk menentukan kesuksesan peserta dalam kegiatan ini. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa 80% peserta sukses dalam menulis draft proposal penelitian. Dengan kata lain, ada peningkatan pengetahuan dan skill serta motivasi yang tinggi dari peserta dalam menyiapkan proposal PTK. Oleh karena itu dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan ini telah terlaksana dengan baik. Kata Kunci: Karya ilmiah, Proposal PTK, Guru

Abstract

Speech styles are variations of standard speech that are used by individuals when they converse with one another. The purpose of this research is to determine the manner of speech that the main characters use and to describe the factors that affect those characters, specifically Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield. In this particular study, the qualitative research method was utilized. A movie with the title The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was used as the primary source of information for this study. According to the findings of the research, both Bilbo and Thorin employ one of three distinct styles, namely the formal style, the consultative style, and the casual style. The consultative mode of communication is the most prominent one utilized by Bilbo, whereas the casual mode of communication is the most prominent mode utilized by Thorin. According to Joos's theory, there are five styles; however, the research could not find evidence of two of these styles, which Joos refers to as the Frozen Style and the Intimate Style.

Abstract

The Shining is a movie directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1980 with duration 2 hours 26 minutes. The story presented Jack Torrance as a man who dislikes authority. He moved to an isolated hotel with his wife and his son in Colorado over the winter, hoping to improve and cure his poor writing. As the days passed, he began showed the symptoms of schizophrenia and attempt to kill his family. This research aims to analyze the symptoms, the kinds, and the impacts of schizophrenia of the main character (Jack Torrance) in “The Shining” movie using psychological approach based on the theory of Kraepelin and American Psychiatric Association. The researcher analyzed the data using descriptive qualitative method and the result of this research showed that the Jack Torrance experienced positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and cognitive symptoms. But the most dominant symptoms were positive symptoms since he had experienced many hallucinations and delusions. There are several types of schizophrenia experienced by Jack Torrance, including schizophrenic simplex, schizophrenic hebephrenic, schizophrenic catatonic and schizophrenic paranoid. Moreover, the most dominant types of schizophrenia that Jack Torrance experienced is paranoid schizophrenia since he showed so many hallucinations, emotional, and serious expression in the movie. Lastly, the impacts of schizophrenia experienced by Jack Torrance are ignoring family, relationship conflicts, familial conflicts, and inability to work.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to discover the type and to analyze the function of code-switching used by the characters in the Trilogy of Habibie and Ainun movies. Code-Switching is is a mechanism for using two or more languages in the same utterance. It implies that when people transfer languages, they may have a specific goal. In literary works, the use of language in every word written or spoken is not far from every aspect of linguistics. Some essential aspects of human language is in people's communication, how the information from others is processed through different languages. That's why the researcher carrying out this research is to discover the types and analyze the function of code-switching used by the characters of Habibie & Ainun, Rudy Habibie, and Habibie & Ainun 3 movies. This research method is descriptive qualitative with a focus on Hammers and Blanc with Gumperz's theories. Other data were collected from various references, namely thesis, journals, online sources, and articles. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing (Miles and Huberman, 1994). The result of this research, the researcher found 49 data with inter-sentential 26 utterances of inter-sentential code-switching, 12 utterances of intra-sentential code-switching, and 11 utterances of tag switching, and inter-sentential switching as the dominant type of code-switching. The characters' most dominant function of code-switching is message qualification function with 16 utterances.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the supernatural events occurring in “Kimi no Nawa” and“Tenkino Ko” Films using the Dunwich (2002) Supernatural theory and Comparative Literatureapproach based on elements of film. This research used descriptive qualitative research in order todescribe the phenomenon and its characteristics that are related to the topic. Using Dunwich'stheory, the researchers categorized the supernatural events in both films based on 5 out of 10aspects. The researchers also compared the supernatural events with the elements of film in orderto classify the supernatural events inboth films to find the differences and similarities. The resultof this study indicates that there are 9 similarities and 10 differences found in two films based onPlot, Structure, Visual, Conflict, and Resolution elements of film. 12 supernatural eventsarecaptured in Kimi no Nawa and 25 supernatural events are captured in Tenki no Ko based onPlantasms and Ectoplasms, True tales of Ghosts and Hauntings, Spiritualism, Ghostly superstitions,and Deities of Death and the Underworld supernatural aspects. There are no connections found inthis research between the supernatural events and reality. As a conclusion for this research, theresearchers were able to classify the supernatural events and compare them.

Abstract

This semiotic analysis used Peirce’s triadic theory to interpret the symbols contained in the lyrics and music video of Paramore entitled “Brick by Boring Brick”. The research applied descriptive qualitative method to reach the needed results. There are sixteen signs interpreted either in general interpretation or referred to fairy tales. By interpreted those signs we gain the intended message that the songwriter wanted to deliver, those signs mentioned symbols like “Taste and smells” which meant the essence of the world. Also “Brick by boring brick” which referenced to the fairy tale of “Three little pigs” and fourteen more symbols interpreted in this research. The message which the songwriter tried to spread was for people to stopped dreaming a life just like in fairy tales which was always end in a beautiful ever-after and started learning to live in the reality. A life like in fairy tales are not real and better stopped trying to impress people and start improving instead.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a hybrid learning model and design instructional material for the Morphology course at Makassar State University's Faculty of Languages and Literature in order to develop students' knowledge of linguistic theories and skills, in particular those pertaining to the English language. These improvements were intended to benefit students in the English department. Following a research design and development model that has been designed will be the development of a learning model and the design of instructional content. This study is an extensive process that designs the needs of students and develops the product or course material of morphology to increase the ability or skills of students in learning language through hybrid learning based on moodle. Specifically, this research focuses on the development of a hybrid learning environment (e-learning). Students enrolled in the English department of the Faculty of Languages and Literature at the State University of Makassar are the subjects of this study's population. The participants in the English Education and Literature Study Program would serve as the sample for this investigation. The findings of the study indicate that there may be a hint of a hybrid learning model based on student worksheet activities or exercises, Syllabus, design instructional material for a morphology course, and moodle e-learning. The findings of the study implicate on the pedagogical practice of Moodle e-learning within an EFL hybrid learning setting.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the praxis of singularity and self-identity (kedirian) as presented in a short story titled Aroma Tanah Moncongloe (ATM). This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method by applying the post-marxist perspective by Antonio Negri and Jean-Luc Nancy. The results signified that there is a labeling of identity constructed by the state as a form of uniformity that is in line with the empire or external power. This uniformity can be seen from the identity of former political prisoners who are isolated and find it difficult to find work. Through the concept of singularity and identity, the existence of political prisoner (ex-tapol) in turn is seen as bad, evil, and can pollute a clean society. On the other hand, this stigma forms a community of ex-tapol who were marginalized politically, socially, and economically. Furthermore, in the subject’s effort to grasp the singularity, there are two indications, shown by Nanni and the Moncongloe Tapol Community (KTM). Nanni is not tied to a single identity as a child (genealogical-biological), but tend to be an open-minded, rational, and trusting teacher (sociological). Meanwhile, KTM stands outside the global political order or empire which minimizes them being entangled in the global capitalist system.  AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk membongkar praksis singularitas dan identitas kedirian sebagaimana dihadirkan teks cerpen Aroma Tanah Moncongloe (ATM). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif-kualitatif dengan menerapkan perspektif post-marxisme Antonio Negri dan Jean-Luc Nancy. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi labelisasi identitas yang dikonstruksi oleh negara sebagai bentuk penyeragaman yang sejalan dengan empire atau kekuasaan eksternal. Penyeragaman ini dapat dilihat dari identitas eks tapol yang terkucilkan dan sulit mendapatkan pekerjaan. Melalui konsep singularitas dan identitas, keberadaan eks tapol pada gilirannya dipandang sebagai sosok yang buruk, jahat, serta dapat mencemari masyarakat yang bersih. Stigmatitasi tersebut di sisi lain melahirkan komunitas eks tapol yang termarginalkan secara politik, sosial, dan ekonomi. Selanjutnya, upaya subjek merengkuh singularitas menunjukkan terdapat dua indikasi; yang diperlihatkan tokoh Nanni dan Komunitas Tapol Moncongloe (KTM). Nanni tidak terikat pada identitas yang tunggal sebagai seorang anak (genealogis-biologis), melainkan cenderung sebagai guru yang berpandangan terbuka, rasional, serta penuh kepercayaan (sosiologis). Sementara KTM berdiri diluar tatanan politik global atau empire yang meminimalisir mereka terjerat dalam sistem kapitalisme global.

Abstract

This research employed an auto ethnographic study. It is a method used to describe the journey of the researcher in teaching English Syntax for three years in academic years 2015 to 2017. The problem in this research is how the lecturer implemented the communicative approach in teaching English Syntax in an Indonesian Higher Education Context. The Method used in this research is qualitative method. The subject of this research was the students and the lecturer of English department, Faculty of Language and Literature, Makassar State University. The instrument of the research was interview and auto ethnography reflection (lecturer personal reflection). Technique of the data collection used individual in-depth interview. The result of the data analysis indicated that the implementation of the communicative approach in teaching English Syntax run well because the students felt satisfy to join the class, from the class start until the end.  The implementation was divided into three steps. The first is preparation; the lecturer has already prepared the teaching material well, the learning objective, and teaching method and strategy. The second is implementation the communicative approach in teaching English Syntax, and the third is evaluation. The all of the steps are run well in teaching English Syntax through the communicative approach. It can be concluded that teaching English Syntax through communicative approach was very good and successful, and get a good impact for the students in improving their language knowledge and skills.  Keywords: an auto ethnographic study, Syntax, and communicative approach
