Abstract

This research aims to understand the differences of critical thinking skill in learning physics using predict observe explain (POE). It was experimental research with pretest posttest control group. It was conducted in class XI IPA of SMAN 3 Banda Aceh on the topic of thermodynamic law. This research used two parallel classes, which is the first class stands for control and another is used as experiment. Conventional model is applied in control class, whereas class of experiment had predict observe explain model. Instrument of this research was objective test with five multiple choice. Then, data were collected through pretest and posttest. Data analysis is carried out by comparing initial and final skills of students and then tested for significance using two different means through independent simple t-test. The results showed that there were differences in critical thinking skills between students using POE model and students using non-POE model. Therefore, it can be concluded that application of learning model predict observe explain in improving students critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Search, solve, create and share (SSCS) learning model  can help students to evolve some generic skills namely spoken, coorporation, and problem solving skills. Those skills are the aspects of assessment to evaluate the achievement of teaching learning process that implements SSCS models. The study was aimed to determine the increase in student achievement, scientific generic skills, and correlation between the skills and the learning outcomes  of students of class VII of MTsN Model Banda Aceh in 2013 in concept of classification of living things  throught implementing SSCS model. The study used experimental method with randomized control group pretest - posttest design . The study used two classes experimental-group and control-group classes chosen according to pretest scores. Data was collected pretest, posttest and scientific generic assessment The results showed that the value of tcount ttable  (5,8 1,6). This indicated that there was a significant increase in students learning outcome. The value of t-count of communication aspect (1),  coorporation aspect (2,7), and problem solving skills (3,4). The correlation among  communication , cooperation  and problem solving skills was high ( r = 0,7).  Therefore it can be concluded that there were increases in student achievement and scientific generic skills and correlation between scientific generic skills and cognitive student learning outcomes except communication aspect.

Abstract

Lack of critical thinking of students in studying physics, this can be seen from their daily scores with an average of about 65.00 lower physics than other subjects. The purpose of this research problem is to determine the effect of guided inquiry learning model with radical constructivism on students' critical thinking skills. This type of research is using a quasi-experimental. The population in this study were all students of class VII MTsS Darul Ulum Banda Aceh, while the samples were taken by two classes by purposive sampling, namely class VII Experiment class (VII-1) which consisted of 30 students, while the control class (VII-3) consisted of 30 students consists of 30 students. The instrument used is a written test. The results showed that the average pre-test for the control class was 22.36, while the average for the experimental class was 32.16. These results show that the average pre-test for both the control class and the experimental class is still in the low category. And the average post-test for the control class is 47.60, for the experimental class is 64.25. This shows an increase in critical thinking in the control class through the guided inquiry learning model but it is still in the low category, namely 0.26, while the experimental class shows an increase in critical thinking through the guided inquiry learning model with radical constructivism of 0.50 in the medium category. This study proves that the inquiry learning model with radical constructivism can influence students' critical thinking
