Abstract

Jeroboam 1st is depicted as the prototype for all future evil kings, who are regularly accused According to the books of Kings. Jeroboam accused of established two sanctuaries; Bethel and Dan to rival the temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. These shrines then provoke vehement censure and sin of Jeroboam become paradigmatic of northern apostasy. Underlying the negative depiction of Jeroboam’s cult, however, scholars have found subtle details suggesting that Jeroboam’s cult was traditional and even Yahwistic in nature. His calves may be best understood as familiar Canaanite vehicles for the invisible deity enthroned above them – in this case, Yahweh – comparable to the cherubim in southern cult of Judah. Jeroboam priesthood likely included Levites. And his choices of Dan and Bethel, too, apparently reflected a sensitivity to honor venerable memories of pre-monarchic era. This research aims to explain what Jeroboam did was not a violation of the Yahwistic system of Israel at that time. The establishment of God in Bethel and Dan did not disconcert the status of Yahweh in the treasures of Israel, instead of a form of a political assertion that separated Israel from the arrogance and the power of Judah. By using the method of analyzing historical criticism and literacy, the result is a new perspective of understanding Jeroboam’s reform in Israel - merely a political movement alone. Jeroboam never removed Yahweh from the treasury as the god of Israel. Instead, he retained Yahweh as God who was declared to have led Israel out of Egypt.

Abstract

The Lex Talionis law is often understood as a law that applies maximum revenge. Through this law, all forms of retaliation are legalized and even justified. The study in Exodus 21: 22-25 just wants to show the opposite of the above understanding. According to the word talion, indeed the Lex Talionis law presupposes complete retaliation. But through interpretation and excavation, especially on Exodus 21: 22-25, the main elements found in Lex Talionis’ law are found; which does not refer to a complete attempt to retaliate, but instead points to the aspect of God's justice in response to every legal case that applied between humans. Thus, the Lex Talionis law is no longer seen as a law of retaliation, but a law of justice that allows this type of law to be implemented in today's life. The results of the study using narrative interpretation methods and combined with textual criticism resulted in an understanding that Lex Talionis law had practical implications, especially regarding the value of sosial justice that could be submitted to the perpetrators of injustice through the courts, so justice would be expected.

Abstract

In the Old Testament Yahweh is frequently called El. The question is raised whether Yahweh was a form of the god El from the beginning or whether they were separate deities who only became equated later. They whom uphold theory Yahweh and El were conceived as separate deities holds that Yahweh was a southern storm god from Seir and so on, which was brought by the Israelites and conflated with the Jerusalem patriarchal deity.On the other side there are scholars who hold and conceived Yahweh and El as one single deity. These scholars defend this position most commonly on the grounds that no distinction between the two can be clearly found in the Hebrew Bible. The methodology used in this paper is literary – historical and social interpretations, with the main method being the "diachronic and dialectical theology of Hegel". The simple Hegelian method is: A (thesis) versus B (anti-thesis) equals C (synthesis). The author analyzes (thesis) by collecting instruments related to ancient Semitic religions; it includes data on El and Yahweh assembly obtained from Hebrew text sources and extra-biblical manuscripts which are then processed in depth. The antithesis is to analyze El's assembly development in Israel – especially in Psalm 82. While the synthesis appears in the nuances of the El’s assembly believe in ancient Israel. The focus of this paper's research is to prove 2 things: first, is Psalm 82: 1, is an Israeli Psalm that uses the patterns and forms of the Canaanite Psalms; especially regarding religious systems that use the terminology of the divine council. Second, to prove that El and Yahweh in the context of this Psalm are two different gods, of which this view contradicts several ANET experts such as Michael S, Heisser who sets El and Yahweh in this text as identical gods. The results of this study attempt to prove that Israel and the Canaan contextually share the same religious system, and are seen to be separated in the Deuteronomist era with their Yahwistic reforms.

Abstract

Modern civilization with its industrialization has brought many changes to Christian family life, where modernization also means a shift from an agrarian society to an industrial society. This development brings about changes that have a direct impact on family life, both in the patterns and roles of the Christian family, as well as in attitudes and views of the values that are the foundation of family life. The article aims to discover the meaning of the mutuality of the Christian family based on Colossians 3: 18-21. In achieving these objectives, this study uses descriptive qualitative methods. The conclusion is that the formation of a family on earth began when Allah created and blessed husband, wife, and child as a complete and perfect family in God's sight with love, obedience, respect, and responsibility. Peradaban modern dengan industrialisasinya telah membawa banyak perubahan bagi kehidupan keluarga Kristen, dimana modernisasi juga berarti pergeseran dari masyarakat agraris ke masyarakat industri. Perkembangan ini membawa perubahan yang mempunyai dampak langsung bagi kehidupan keluarga, baik dalam pola dan peranan keluarga Kristen, maupun dalam sikap dan pandangan terhadap nilai-nilai yang menjadi sendi kehidupan keluarga. Artikel memiliki maksud untuk menemukan makna mutualitas keluarga Kristen berdasarkan Kolose 3:18-21. Dalam mencapai tujuan tersebut penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Hasilnya adalah pembentukan keluarga di muka bumi dimulai ketika Allah menciptakan dan memberkati suami, istri, dan anak sebagai keluarga yang lengkap dan sempurna dalam pandangan Allah dengan kasih, ketaatan, menghormati, dan bertanggung jawab.

Abstract

Dari waktu ke waktu Pancasila selalu menjadi topik utama dalam isu nasional di Indonesia. Semenjak dirumuskan dan dipergunakan sebagai ideologi negara yang merangkul dan mengayomi seluruh kepentingan dan golongan di Indonesia oleh bung Karno, Pancasila ternyata tidak pernah bebas dari kepentingan. Bung Karno dan Soeharto menggunakan Pancasila sebagai alat pukul bagi kelompok kanan dan kiri Indonesia. Pada akhirnya kelompok tertentu memberikan antipasti terhadap Pancasila dan ingin menggantikan ideologi yang merupakan hasil kompromi anak bangsa digantikan dengan ideologi syariah yang hanya mewakili golongan tertentu saja. Walaupun telah final kesepakatan piagam Jakarta tidak menjadi bagian dari lima dasar Pancasila, namun upaya-upaya mendongkel Pancasila sebagai ideologi negara terus bergulir sampai saat ini. Tekanan terhadap Pancasila; khususnya rongrongan terhadap sila pertama, ternyata berimbas terhadap gereja yang harus mengalami intimidasi, ancaman dan kekerasan sebagai hasil akhir dari intoleransi kebebasan beragama. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk memberikan gambaran melalui kajian sosial bagaimana tekanan terhadap Pancasila berimbas pada eksistensi dan operasional gereja di Indonesia. Diharapkan dengan mempergunakan metodologi atau kajian sosial ini diperoleh hasil atau deskripsi memadai bagaimana gereja melakukan langkah-langkah politis, etis dan konkrit dalam menyikapi keadaan ini. From time to time Pancasila has always been the main topic in national issues in Indonesia. Since it was formulated and used as a state ideology that embraces and protects all interests and groups in Indonesia by Bung Karno, Pancasila has never been free from interests. Bung Karno and Suharto used Pancasila as a tool to deomolished Indonesian extrems religious and marxism groups. In the end, those groups gave antipasti against Pancasila and wanted to replace the ideology which was the result of the compromise of the nation's children to be replaced with sharia ideology which only represented certain groups. Even though the Jakarta charter agreement has been finalized, it does not become part of the five principles of Pancasila, but efforts to overthrow Pancasila as the state ideology continue to this day. Pressure on Pancasila; especially the undermining of the first precepts, it turns out to have an impact on the church which has to experience intimidation, threats and violence as the end result of intolerance of religious freedom. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview through social studies how the pressure on Pancasila affects the existence and operations of the church in Indonesia. It is hoped that by using this methodology or social study, adequate results or descriptions of how the church takes political, ethical and concrete steps in addressing this situation are expected.

Abstract

In many cultures, literature, and kingdoms, the position of women, whether they are daughters, sisters, wives or mothers, often has an important position of influence and share. The existence of female characters in Biblical studies always has an important position and has a large enough influence so that it can strengthen or weaken men. In the Book of Kings, women can be found in their positions as queens, mothers, wives, and daughters who are directly involved with the King and his kingdom. This study aims to examine the position and role of women in their existence in the biblical narrative, especially the Book of Kings, where women often have very important positions and functions in a historical influence and the continuity of the kingdom. This study was carried out in the Bible, especially the Book of Kings which was studied as literature, and the researcher used a hermeneutic approach to describe the relationship between culture and customs at that time. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of Christian Religious Education on changes in the character of teenagers at GBI Bukit Sion Kelapa Gading. This study uses a quantitative survey research methodology by using a statistical regression analysis technique. The data collection technique used a Likert scale with four answer choices distributed to 40 teenagers in this study. The data processing results show a correlation between the variables of Christian Religious Education and Teenagers Character Building of 0.486 or 48.6%. This means that Christian Religious Education has a positive role in changing the character building of teenagers at GBI Bukit Sion Kelapa Gading. ABSTRAKTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa pengaruh Pendidikan Agama Kristen terhadap perubahan karakter remaja di GBI Bukit Sion Kelapa Gading. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif survey dengan menggunakan teknik analisis statistika regresi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan skala likert empat pilihan jawaban yang dibagikan kepada 40 remaja yang menjadi responden penelitian ini. Hasil pengolahan data menunjukkan ada korelasi antara variabel Pendidikan Agama Kristen terhadap Pembentukan Karakter Remaja sebesar 0,486 atau 48,6 %. Artinya bahwa Pendidikan Agama Kristen memiliki peran  yang positif dalam perubahan pembentukan karakter remaja di GBI Bukit Sion Kelapa Gading.

Abstract

Buku ini berupaya memahami ide monoteisme dan siknifikansi Yahweh dalam Ulangan, serta hubungan keduanya melalui beberapa teks yang terekam dalam Perjanjian Lama. Substansi dari penelitian ini adalah eksegesis mendalam beberapa pasal dalam Ulangan yang berhubungan dengan kesatuan Yahweh. Dimana ide utama yang dipaparkan sebagai ‘Yahweh adalah satu’ merupakan tema utama yang berkaitan dengan kesatuan Yahweh, keunikan Yahweh, keberadaan allah lain, arti mengasihi Yahweh, pemilihan Israel dan larangan penyembahan berhala melalui analisis literari-sejarah serta disimpulkan bahwa ide monoteisme modern tidak mampu mewakili model agama Israel yang menetapkan Yahweh sebagai allah ‘unik’ di antara allah lain.

Abstract

Mark S. Smith merupakan satu di antara peneliti Kitab Ibrani; khususnya teks-teks ANET (Ancient Near Eastern Text) bersama dengan beberap ahli bahasa Semit barat seperti Frank Moore Cross, Michael D. Morgan dan Brevard S. Child.  Akan tetapi, Smith lebih dikenal dengan model interpretasi Israel sebagai satu entitas dengan bangsa sekitarnya – dalam hal ini Kanaan. Pendekatan ini menghasilkan metodologi penting untuk melihat Israel dengan cara berbeda – yaitu Israel sebagai bangsa yang identik dengan bangsa-bangsa Kanaan – berlawanan dengan pemahaman yang selama ini melihat kedua bangsa sebagai vis-a-vis berdasarkan informasi Kitab Ibrani. Buku ini berupaya menggambarkan upaya memahami Israel tidak dapat diperoleh melalui sejarah semata.  Berbicara mengenai Israel sebagai umat dengan beberapa mishpat, kemudian berlanjut menjadi sebuah bangsa dalam koridor monarki, sampai mereka masuk dan kembali dari pembuangan; termasuk di dalamnya sistem agama mereka, hanya dapat dilakukan melalui memori.  Memori yang dimaksud Smith dalam hal ini adalah melalui proses convergence dan differentiation. Pada masa awal Israel, bangsa ini tidak berbeda dengan bangsa-bangsa sekitarnya; termasuk di dalamnya sistem keagaman yang mereka anut. El, Baal, Anat dan Asherah menjadi allah utama Israel.  El menjadi sesembahan utama Israel bersamaan dengan Yahweh.  Baal menjadi sesembahan Daud ketika ia berseru Baal Perazim (allah memberikan terobosan) dalam 2 Samuel 5:20 dan 1 Tawarik 14:11 (hal.74-76).

Abstract

Fenomena liturgi dewasa ini begitu dikuasai oleh berbagai macam bentuk ibadah yang bersifat ‘kekinian’, atau yang dikenal dengan istilah ibadah kontemporer. Jenis ibadah ini sudah merebak dengan sangat jauh dan bahkan menjadi ibadah yang begitu disukai oleh setiap anak muda (tidak menutup kemungkinan orang tua juga), sehingga muncul anggapan bahwa jenis ibadah ini adalah jenis ibadah yang perlu untuk terus dipertahankan dan dikembangkan.Tulisan ini hendak mencoba melihat dengan kritis bentuk ibadah kontemporer dan sekaligus membedahnya dengan pisau analitis-teologis yang cukup tajam untuk menemukan apa saja yang harus dikembangkan dan diupayakan dalam menjalankan ibadah kontemporer ini. Jangan sampai ibadah kontemporer menjadi sebuah ibadah yang hanya mengutamakan kepuasan jasmaniah saja tetapi melupakan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan iman. Oleh sebab itu, dalam tulisan ini disajikan sebuah ulasan kritis yang hendak membenahi bentuk ibadah kontemporer sehingga dapat menjadi bentuk ibadah yang benar-benar sesuai dengan apa yang dikehendaki oleh Tuhan dan sekaligus menyenangkan hati Tuhan.
