Abstract

Gender-based injustice and violence can be found around us, but they are often ignored. Meanwhile, gender equality—where men and women have the same appreciation and opportunity they need for self-development in various fields—is a sign of welfare society. Through this community service, the writers along with the students, want to see an increase in gender awareness which become a precondition of welfare society. With a community who are gender literate, there is a hope that gender equality will be able to be realised. Young men and women of the youth organisation in Cawang Village, East Jakarta, are chosen to start this community service. The result showed that almost all participants do not aware of gender-based injustice practices, although they have ever seen or even experienced it around them. Socialisation further is required so that participants not only know, but also understand and able to apply their knowledge in their family and surround environment.

Abstract

Abstract

The research is about mapping interpersonal violence against women in the Nias District, North Sumatera. The patriarchal culture which has a hold in the area has significant effects on women. Using a social mapping approach and a feminist perspective, data in this research were collected through literature study, i.e. reports of service provider institutions on violence cases in Nias District, as well as observation and interview methods with local leaders in its ten sub-districts. The feminist perspective is useful to give voice to the unheard” female actors in a patriarchal society. Findings based on secondary data show that cases of violence in the Nias District from 2009-2016 fluctuated, with a total of 116 cases. The most frequent cases of violence experienced by women are physical violence, as many as 76 cases, sexual violence 31 cases, psychological violence eight cases and economic violence one case. The data collected from the interview and observation are 180 cases. The overall data show that physical violence occupies the highest number (secondary data 65.51% and primary data 53.88%) in the form of a beating received by the wife (domestic violence). The character of women’s vulnerability to violence varies ineach sub-district and is highly dependent on regional geographic-economic conditions. Therefore, the approach to the resolution of violence in each sub-district may vary. As a conclusion, the practice of violence against women in the Nias District is like an iceberg phenomenon that still needs to be followed up. The research also shows the potential of related institutions partnership, especially encouraged by churches, to end practices of interpersonal violence against women in the Nias District.

Abstract

Women who work and have multiple roles allow them to face various challenges, obstacles and experience certain psychological impacts. To face these challenges, it is important for women who work and have multiple roles to adapt. This study aims to develop a valid and reliable adjustment tool for working women, which can be used as material for selecting or evaluating female employees in a company or can be used for working women who have multiple roles in general. This study used a quantitative approach. This research is designing a psychological scale. Respondents in this study were 389 women who worked and had multiple roles. This research produced a measurement tool called the Working Women Self-Adjustment Scale (SPDPP). SPDPP consists of 15 items that have good item discrimination and represent five aspects of adjustment evenly, where each aspect consists of 3 items. This measurement tool has good validity based on construct validity, where the value of the item-rest correlation ranges from 0.337 to 0.513. This measuring instrument also has high Cronbach's Alpha reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.798.
