Abstract

EnglishMicrofinance institutions (MFIs) are financing alternatives for farmers. Mapping MFIs is useful to avoid overlapping of the MFIs supporting programs. This study aims to mapping MFIs in Padang City with GIS, and to describe the management effectiveness. Data were collected using in-depth interviews with each micro-credit institution and their related parties. This research produces a website of the MFI mapping as can be seen on “lkmsumbar.org”. The MFIs locations spread around the settlement of the MFI’s clients. The effectiveness of MFI's management is viewed in terms of the member accessibility, level of adherence to the rule of law, level of compliance to the management, management service level, allocation of the use of credit funds, and the benefits of credit funds. The results show that farmers' access to the agribusiness MFI-As is quite good, which can be seen from the consistency between the amount of credit proposed and approved. The members’ compliance to the board and the rules is quite good. The service level of the board is not good and not effective in serving the members. The loan is mostly used for business capital and some may be used for funding household urgent needs.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBroiler chicken meat is the result of the production of the broiler industry, both on a small and large scale. The broiler industry is experiencing high growth because this industry is supported by increased market demand, access to a fairly open market, product prices that are much cheaper than other livestock products such as beef, buffalo, goat and native chicken (free-range chicken). This study analyzes the factors influencing the demand, supply, and price of broiler chickens in West Sumatra. The research method used is simultaneous analysis (Two-Stage Least Square (2SLS)) with the help of the Eviews 10 program. The type of data used in this study is secondary data in the form of annual time series data, namely data on demand, supply, broiler prices, prices of other goods, economy, and population in West Sumatra Province from 1997 to 2020. The study results concluded that the factors that had a significant effect on the demand for broiler chicken in West Sumatra were the price of broiler chicken meat and the price of broiler eggs. Where in West Sumatra, broiler chicken meat is a commodity with the highest consumption when compared to meat and other protein sources. The factors that significantly influence the supply of broiler chicken in West Sumatra are the price of broiler chicken and the price of free range chicken, and the lag in the supply of free range chicken (amount of chicken supply in the previous year). This means that the higher the price, the greater the broiler chicken offered to the market. The third objective is that the price of broiler chickens is significantly affected by the demand for broiler chickens and the supply of broiler chickens. Keywords: Broiler Chicken, Demand, Supply, Price

Abstract

Rural agroindustry can absorb a relatively high labor rate, but the added value of the products is very low, resulting in low labor productivity. This research aims at describing the process of sugarcane into brown sugar and analyzing the added value of brown sugar agroindustry as well as its distribution in Bukik Batabuah Village, Canduang Agam Sub-district. The data were collected from six brown sugar processing home industries. This research found that there were three kinds of brown sugar namely saka kariang, saka gatah kuniang and saka gatah merah, which were only different in the time of cooking, storage process of tengguli, and heating of tengguli on saka gatah processing. These made the three types of brown sugar have different texture, taste, color and price. From their added value, saka kariang and saka gatah kuniang were classified as medium products, while saka gatah merah was classified as a low product. In addition, this research reveals that the smallest added value distribution was received by paid labors. Based on the findings, the following suggestions are recommended: (1) the brown sugar business should focus on developing a business of saka kariang processing; and (2) the added value of brown sugar could be enhanced by the use of effective and efficient production machinery, so that the added value distributed to the brown sugar agroindustry could be improved

Abstract

Small businesses' performance needs to be improved because it plays an essential role in driving economic growth and development. This study focuses on examining the effect of entrepreneurial characteristics on small business performance. Data was collected through a survey by giving questionnaires to 100 small business entrepreneurs processing brown sugar. Structural Equation Model (SEM) was chosen to ensure the relationship between variables. Empirical findings indicate that entrepreneurial characteristics affect business performance directly and indirectly through credit access, entrepreneurial characteristics affect credit access, and credit access affects business performance. Business performance improvement of brown sugar entrepreneurs needs government assistance and building networks.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence consumer purchasing agricultural products online. .We observed three West Sumatra cities with internet access above the provincial average. Suspected individual, socio-demographic and cultural factors influence agricultural consumer behavior. This study surveyed 100 respondents by accident in the three cities. Data analysis was carried out using a logit analysis approach. The results showed that individual factors significantly affected consumer behavior while demographic and cultural factors had no considerable impact. Consumers who have regular incomes and fixed jobs have substantial opportunities to purchase agricultural products online because they are considered more effective and provide a lot of convenience during their busy activities.
