Abstract

The movement to wards adopting the concepts of sustainable development is causing industries to minimize the environmental impact of their activities and the products that they produce. One of the everyday goods that rapidly grown is plastics. Concern to that concept, plastic industries have invested a field of research known as Life Cycle Assessment - ascientific technique designed to provide an environmental profile of a product from cradle to grave. LCA has enabled us to discover much about the relative effects of differentsubstances and process. LCA as a component on Environmental Management System has been studied to become series ofISO 14000 that is ISO 14041 - 14044.

Abstract

Percobaan memperlihatkan bahwa film layak­santap yang dibuat dari tapioka sebagai bahan tunggal ternyata sangat sulit untuk dikelupas dari lempeng kaca pembentuknya; namun dengan berbagai variasi penggunaan tapioka­amilosa, film yang dihasilkan mudah dikelupas. Secara umum lembaran film yang dihasilkan memiliki sifat yang stabil, tidak toksik, kuat tarik dan kemuluran memadai, dengan rentang hasil uji laju transmisi uap air (LTUA) antara 294,0­ 564,5 gr/24jam.

Abstract

Of all the conventional types of pesticide formulation, the manufacture of wettable powder is perhaps the most difficult. It needs the science and the skill to convert an organik toxicants into products that comply with standardformulation specification. However, by carefull choise of carrier, adjusvants, and processing technique, a satisfactory formulation can be achieved. Seven types of wettable powder formulation using local ingredient that differ in concentration of adjuvant were prepared in this experiment. The physico-chemical test showed that the best result is formulation E which contain MIPC 52%, kaolin 43%, wetting agent 2 %, and suspensing agent 3 %, but the suspensibility is not comply with F AO spesification.

Abstract

The adjuvant usage gives an effect in the Water Dispersible Granule of pesticide formulation, both for types of adjuvant or its concentration. Binding agents as a part of adjuvant use in this research are Poly Vinyl Pirolidone, Poly Vinyl Alcohol, CMC and Gum Arabic. The best sequence formulation for water dispersible granule on active ingredient, speed of desintegration and pH (before and after storage) is A1 formula with polyvinyl pirolidon 2 %, A2formula with polyvinyl pirolidone 2,5 % and B1 formula with CMC 2,0 %. Generally the result shows that the local binding agents give a bit lower performance as adjuvant compared with the existing water dispersible granule formulations.

Abstract

Mutu formulasi pekatan teremulsi (Emulsifiable Concentrate, EC) ditentukan oleh sifat-sifat fisika-kimianya, antara lain kadar bahan aktif, kestabilan emul-si, pH dan busa stabil. Dari sifat-sifat fisika tersebut yang terpenting adalah kestabilan emulsi. Emulsi yang stabil dapat dicapai dengan pemakaian bahan pengemulsi yang tepat.

Abstract

Corrugated boxes as a transport packaging can decrease the damage of the contains during transportation. The transport packaging for fresh fruit has to be provided by ventilation. However the percentage of the ventilation candecrease the physical properties/the strength of the corrugated boxes it self. Experiment has been carried out to determine the percentage of the ventilation of the corrugated boxes needed for fruit of manggistan. The type of corrugated boxes is Regular Slotted Container (RSC) with inner dimension 300 x 180 x 110 mm and 2, 5 kg by weight. The transport simulation test showed that the optimum percentage of the ventilation is 5 % with the self live of 8 days.

Abstract

Recently the use of plastic packaging is become avoided because their waste will create environmental problem. As an alternative choice the use of biodegradable plastic packaging has been developed Research on biodegradable plastic has been carried out to study the effect of water content and kind of plasticizer on mechanical properties of the biodegradable plastic made from corn starch and polyvinyl alcohol. The result shows that water can increase the elongation of the plastic, but on the other hand it can decrease the tensile strength and barrier properties by increasing the water vapour transsmision rate. Therefore the use of water as a plasticizer must be mixed with other plasticizer such as glycerol, sorbitol, polyethylene glycol and glycerol monostearate. In this study the best result is by using mixture of water and sorbitol with ratio = 5: I and the ratio of solid material (starch + PVOH +nucleating agent) and plasticizer = 1 : I.

Abstract

One of the most important and widely used types of pesticide formulation is Emulsifia­ble Concentrate, abbreviated as EC. An EC formulation can be defined as non=aqueoussolution of a pesticide­active ingredient and emulsifiers in a suitable solvent. In this experiment 4 types of BPMC Emulsifiable Concentrate formulation were prepared at various emulsifier types and concentrations. Agrisol emulsifier was used for control.The new formulations which have been prepared give a bit lower physico chemical test result, compared with the agrisol formulation especially in 8% and 10% concentration that fulfil the SII requirements.

One of the most effective way to remove the pollutant in waste water is biological treatment. There are several different systems used to get the mikroorganism to do their jobs. Such as : activated sludge, biological filters, and ponds. Activated sludge is the one that widely use in many plants over the world. To have the best result we have to know how to control the mikroorganism 's life that we can get from the experience.
