Abstract

Provinces in Eastern Indonesia (KTI) have a poverty rate that is relatively higher than the Western Region of Indonesia (KBI). Tourism is a sector of global economic activity that is used by various countries in the world to increase participation in their economic growth. This study aims to determine the projected influence of tourism with the number of domestic and foreign tourists, non-productive age, and human capital measured through education and health on poverty in Eastern Indonesia (KTI) in 2010-2019. The type of this research is descriptive quantitative using panel data analysis. The results of this study indicate that the variable of domestic tourists has a negative effect on poverty, while the variable of non-productive age has a positive effect on poverty. The variables of the number of foreign tourists, education, and health have no effect on poverty in Eastern Indonesia (KTI). These results imply that 1) the government must involve local communities in tourism development, 2) the government must issue policies to regulate non-productive population growth, 3) education improvement must also hone life skills, 4) health facilities and services must able to touch all levels of society

The degradation of natural resources is not the unique attribute of advanced Western industrial economic. But, it happens on Eastern economics bloc and the low growth economics countries also. Abstract

The article was aimed to analyze the influence of capital and human capital to the gross domestic product (GDP) in Indonesia during 1970-2005. The result, using Engle-Granger’s Error Correction Model, shows that in the short term there is only one variable that have influence to GDP, that is, capital. In the long term estimation, both variables that are capital and human capital have influence to GDP. Key words: capital, human capital, gross domestic product, error correction model

Abstract

ABSTRACT The present research was aimed to analyze New Keynesian Phillips Curve (NKPC) in Indonesia using time series data for 39 years, start from 1970 until 2008. We use generalized method of moments (GMM) for estimation and hypothesis testing for the following reason: GMM estimators can be constructed without specifying the full data generating process (which would be required to write down the maximum likelihood estimator). Price rate and unemployment rate were used as variables that will be estimated in this research. The result shows that all variables in NKPC estimation are significant. Inflation rate and unemployment rate have positive correlation. Our results tend to support the NKPC. Empirical evidence seemed to subsequently back up Friedman’s argument, as the 1970s saw the “stagflation” combination of high inflation and high unemployment that the Phillips curve relationship seemed to rule out. Keywords: New Keynesian  Phillips Curve, generalized method of moments

Abstract

Income inequality between regions occurs because there are differences in the development process and differences in policies for each region. Income inequality between regions occurs in Yogyakarta, which is the province with the highest poverty rate in Java. One of the causes of poverty in Yogyakarta is inequality in the north and south sides. Development on the north side is progressing massively while development on the south side is relatively lagging behind. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect and elasticity of per capita growth, agglomeration, local own-source revenue, and investment on income inequality between regions. This research is a quantitative research using secondary data. The data used in this research are inequality based on the Bonet index, GRDP (Gross Regional Domestic Product) per capita, agglomeration, local own-source revenue, and investment from 5 regencies/cities in Yogyakarta from 2011 to 2022. The data were obtained from BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik) Yogyakarta publications and DJPK (Direktorat Jenderal Perimbangan Keuangan) publications. Data were analyzed using panel data analysis with the fixed effect model. The results showed that per capita growth has a positive and significant effect on income inequality between regions, agglomeration has a positive and significant effect on income inequality between regions, local own-source revenue has a negative and significant effect on income inequality between regions, and investment has a negative and significant effect on income inequality between regions. Based on this research, it is hoped that local governments can increase economic growth and make investment equitable, especially in the southern region by considering the potential of the area they have.
