The use of an element in belief to committing a crime can still be found in the some Indonesian society. At least the perpetrators, victims, or communities still believe the functionality of supernatural success to reach a goal, including in crime. Uniquely, the reaction of society to the practitioners is varies, ranging from respected, tolerated, stigmatized, to excommunication. Using the ethnographic approach, this study found that most of the Tanah Putih Tanjung Melawan people of Rokan Hilir District of Riau Province still believe in the existence of supernatural powers, which can have an impact on natural and human life. This study concludes that the application of certain occult sciences in the execution of a crime will persist as long as local people or communities still believe that supernatural is functional to them.
