Abstract

The air condition in residential or office buildings needs to be sought so that the conditions are fresh and comfortable for the residents. Indonesia with a tropical climate has hot temperatures and high humidity levels. For this reason, the application of air conditioning systems is needed. The study was conducted by survey to record the size of the house, the area of ventilation, the number and size of air conditioners used, the temperature of the use of air conditioners, and the monthly electricity bill. Data is processed to obtain specific data on the adequacy of ventilation, the level of ACusage, the temperature of AC usage, and the level of AC electricity usage. The results of this study are that 77% of residential houses have ventilation areas that meet minimum requirements. Houses that use AC as much as 60%. Almost all air conditioners are used in sleeping rooms. AC users mostly choose cool comfortable temperatures, which is 55%. As for whochose the temperature of the use of air conditioners in optimal comfortable conditions by 35%. While those who choose warm temperatures to comfort in the use of AC as much as 10%. The average electricity bill due to the use of AC is 34% of the total residential electricity bill.

Abstract

Determining the need for clean water needs to be planned properly. In determining the need for clean water, it is necessary to estimate the number of occupants or building users on average every day. On this basis, it is necessary to calculate the average daily water requirement. The determination of the size of the pipes and water pumps also needs to be taken into account based on the consideration of the initial information on the need for water supply. The piping installation and the determination of the pump supplying clean water in the Faculty of Maritime Affairs have not been based on the calculation of the need for clean water at the Faculty of Maritime Affairs. For this reason, this article will be presented calculation of the need for clean water in the Maritime Faculty building, and the specifications of the pump that will need to be used. With the calculation and analysis of the existing data, it is obtained that the average clean water requirement is 3.36 m3/hour in peak conditions of 6.72 m3/hour. The pipe used is PVC with a diameter of 1.5 inches. The pump used is 750Watt of electricity, 6m of suction power and 12m of thrust, and a capacity of 240 lt/min.

Abstract

The need for air cooling is currently considered important, especially for cooling meeting rooms and auditoriums. Thus the cool and comfortable air conditions can be presented. This research was conducted to determine the air cooling load in the Ivet University Auditorium. The method used is to calculate the amount of heat that comes from outdoors and indoors. The amount of heat from the room is the heat from the sun's heat that propagates through walls, roofs, glass windows and doors. The heat that comes from inside the room is sourced from humans as occupants, lights, and other electronic equipment. From the results of data analysis it can be determined that the cooling load of Ivet University Auditorium is 11,1100 Watts or equivalent to 379073 Btu / hr. The total AC power needed to cool the room is 42 PK.

Abstract

One way of handling caught fish so that freshness is maintained is by lowering the temperature or cooling the temperature of the fish. At low temperatures, the biochemical processes that take place in the fish's body that lead to a decrease in fish quality take place more slowly. In addition, at low temperature conditions the growth of spoilage bacteria in the fish's body can also be slowed down. This study aims to calculate the cooling load on the use of cold room GEA type GAC-245 for fish preservation. With the resulting total cooling load and the percentage of cooling load can be considered in the use of the cold room. The results showed that the total cooling load was 9460 Watt. The biggest cooling load is the product load with a value of 6475 Watt. The infiltration load is quite large in the second order, so to reduce the use of cold storage, efforts are made so that the door does not open too long or too often.

Abstract

Many steel industries use scrap material as their basic material, both in the machine industry and the metal industry. The reason for using scrap is because this material is easy to obtain, has a high comparative value, has a chemical composition that is still very possible for further processing, and can reduce problems related to metal waste. Scrap material has a non-uniform type and chemical composition. The mistake in determining the type and composition of the basic ingredients will risk producing products whose specifications are not as expected. For that, before scrap is processed, it must first be grouped according to its type, then it is necessary to know in advance the chemical composition of each type of scrap ferrous material. Calculation of material composition before smelting must be precise, referring to the chemical composition standard that becomes the reference. The production of scrap iron into concrete reinforcing steel at PT Abadi Jaya Manunggal shows that scrap iron can be recycled and processed to produce reinforcing steel for concrete by taking into account the correct scrap composition. The chemical composition test results of scrap iron smelting show a composition identical to that of grade 250 steel. The result of the calculation of carbon equivalent is 0.317%, lower than the required maximum limit of 0.6%.

Abstract

Cooling machines are currently equipment that cannot be separated from human life. For this reason, a lot of research on cooling machines has been carried out to further optimize the work of the machine. This research was conducted to determine the effect of variations in the length of the evaporator pipe on the performance of the cooling machine. Evaporator pipes are varied with a length of 1 meter, 2 meters, and 3 meters. Other parameters are the length of the condenser pipe of 10 meters, the length of the capillary tube of 1.6 meters, and the freon pressure of 10Psi. Based on the results of measurements and calculations of 3 types of evaporator pipe variations, it can be concluded that variations with 1 meter long evaporator pipe get the best results, namely with an average low temperature of 0,920C, a refrigeration effect of 113.53 kJ/kg, and a COP of 2.62.

Abstract

Fish is the main product of marine catches which is widely consumed to meet food needs. Fish is a product that is easily damaged or spoiled, especially at room temperature conditions. Transport must be carried out with care so that fishery products are not exposed to high temperatures during loading and transportation of transport vehicles. One thing that needs to be considered in using a box truck fleet as a means of transportation for transporting frozen fish is choosing the right cooling machine capacity. This study aims to calculate the cooling load on box trucks for transporting frozen fish. With the resulting total cooling load and the proportion of cooling load can be a consideration in selecting the cooling machine used in the car cooler. From the existing analysis data, the total cooling load of a frozen fish transport truck box with box dimensions of 250cm x 170cm x 165cm and a total load of 1200kg of fish is 5531 Watts. The cooling machine recommended for use in frozen fish transport box trucks requires a cooling machine with a power of 2 PK.

Abstract

The cylinder in the internal combustion engine is one of the main parts, where this part is where the piston works. Due to the importance of the piston and cylinder functions in the combustion process in diesel engines, it is necessary to have a good maintenance schedule, as well as repairs to overcome existing problems. Among the things that can be done if the piston and cylinder damage is severe is to replace the piston (oversize). This study aims to identify wear problems on the cylinder liner and piston of diesel engines. Measurement of cylinder liner clearance is carried out to determine wear and tear by comparing it with the initial standard diameter. The piston diameter measurement is carried out to determine its wear by comparing it with the initial standard diameter size. The biggest wear occurs in cylinder liner number 4 which is 0.42 mm. After measuring the diesel engine with 6 cylinders, the largest wear result was obtained on cylinder liner number 4, which was 0.42 mm. The biggest piston wear occurs on piston number 1 which is 0.65mm. Need to oversize almost all cylinders except for cylinder number 2.
