Abstract

In the Academic Year 2020/2021 learning face-to-face for school students in most parts of Indonesia is prohibited to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID)-19. Instead, a school from home (SFH) is implemented. As a result, the use of gadgets by school students increases not only for learning activities, but also for communication, entertainment/recreation, and socializing. Excessive use of the gadget will increase the risk of developing health problems both physically and mentally. Based on this, the school collaborated with a team from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta to carry out community service activities with the theme "School of Gadget-Friendly.” This activity aimed to 1) Increase students' knowledge of health problems both physically and mentally due to excessive use of gadgets and 2) Students implement efforts to prevent/reduce the risk of health problems when they are using gadgets. Partners of this activity were students of Islamic Junior High School Dian Didaktika grades 8 and 9. Education to students by the team was carried out from the school studio using google meet. Before and after education, students were given a pre & post-test to measure the level of knowledge. A week later the students were asked to fill out a checklist related to their activities using the gadget. School teachers were also asked for their opinions regarding the activity. The results of this activity were an increase in students' knowledge regarding the use of gadgets and most students have made any efforts to stay healthy when using gadgets during SFH. The school teacher argued that this community service activity was a provision for students to be able to use gadgets wisely so that they remained healthy during SFH.

Abstract

Pendahuluan Usia tua dipandang sebagai masa kemunduran, masa dimana para orang lanjut usia (lansia) merasakan penurunan-penurunan yang terjadi pada dirinya baik secara fisik dan psikologis. Para lansia menjalani dan memaknai usia lanjut dengan cara yang berbeda-beda. Melalui pemberdayaan lansia dengan memanfaatkan barang bekas dirasakan bermanfaat untuk diri lansia sendiri, lingkungan dan keluarganya. Tujuan abdimas adalah memberdayakan lansia melalui Dahlia Senja sehingga menjadi lansia yang aktif dan produktif. Metode pelaksanaan adalah dengan training of training dalam pembuatan tas belanja dari sampah plastik. Pelatihan dilaksanakan sebanyak 4 pertemuan mulai dari pemilihan bahan, penyetrikaan bahan, pembuatan pola, menjahit pola dan menghias. Hasil abdimas dari 25 orang peserta, 100% nya dapat mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan dan mampu menghasilkan minimal 2 tas dari sampah plastik. Harapan program ini dapat meningkatkan kualitas hidup lansia di hari tuanya.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents losing their parents is the worst event they experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Adolescents raise a traumatic response after a loss occurs.Objective: This study aims to explore the description of the condition of adolescents in dealing with the loss of parents due to COVID-19.Methods: Qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. The number of participants is 12 people with the criteria of youth aged 10-19 years consisting of men and women who have lost their parents due to COVID-19. Interview data were processed using the Colaizzi technique.Results: Four themes through the theme analysis, namely adolescents are not ready to face sudden loss, adolescents experience suffering due to the loss of parents, adolescents find it difficult to go through the loss process, and changes occur in adolescents due to the loss of parents.Conclusion: The findings of this study show that the sudden loss of parents due to COVID-19 harms adolescent mental health. As a result, mental health nurses in the community need to detect adolescents early for signs of stress and anxiety due to the loss of parents and take steps to strengthen adolescents' self-defense after loss.
