Abstract

This study aimed to determine the cellulase activity in broilers digestive tract after the treatment of soya wastes and palm kernel fermented by A.niger (AKBIS Prob) in the ration. This study used a complete randomized factorial design, which consists of two factors, namely the AKBIS Prob composition factor and the duration of AKBIS Prob. Twenty four broilers were divided into four groups by randomized and three replications of each. The feed supplement combinations were P0 (commercial), P1 (commercial and AKBIS Prob 2%), P2 (commercial and AKBIS Prob 4%), and P3 (commercial and AKBIS Prob 6%). The intestine preparation was taken at the 22 and 36 days to extraction and detection the cellulase activity concentration. Data were analyzed using variance analysis of factorial patterns. AKBIS Prob 2,4 and 6% was no effect (P 0.05) to the cellulase activity in the small and large intestine, while the treatment duration was significant (P0,05) in the small intestine but neither in the large intestine (P0,05) to the cellulase activity. The addition of AKBIS Prob 2.4 and 6% had no effect (P 0.05) on the concentration of cellulase activity in the small intestine and large intestine, while the duration the treatment was very significant (P 0.05) in the small intestine and neither in the large intestine (P 0.05) on the concentration of cellulase activity. The AKBIS administration in the ration for 22 days can increase the activity and concentration of cellulase activity in the small intestine of the digestive tract of broiler chickens.

Abstract

The study aims to (i) isolate white galangal (Alpinia galanga) and red (Alpinia purpuruta) rhizome extract compound, (ii) examine its bioactivity against Staphylococcus mutans, and (iii) investigate its usage as an active substance in tooth paste in the laboratory. The result of the study indicates that the extract of n-hexane of red galangal has a higher bioactivity effect against Staphylococcus aureus compared to the white one. The examination of the experimental tooth paste with an addition of 1 % active substance (extract of n-hexane, namely D and J fractions) indicates that the diameter of resistance against Staphylococcus aureus formed by D fraction is higher (15.5 mm) than the positive control (15 mm). Meanwhile, an addition of active substance of 1.5 % D and J fractions indicates a higher diameter of resistance (16.2 mm and 14.7 mm) compared to positive control.. IR and GC-MS analysis indicates that the most dominant compound existing in D fraction is 2-metil -1-(o-tolil)pentanol, while the most dominant compound in the J fraction is 2--ethyl-5-methyl benzoic acid.

Abstract

Utilization of data and information on ecosystem services is used as a reference in the management of natural resources and the environment as well as a guide for policy makers to determine priority locations in critical ecosystem restoration. There are challenges for Forest Management Unit (FMU) staff and community members to accurately collect and report specific information on forest carbon, biodiversity, supply forest types, and cultural ecosystem services. This service aims to facilitate FMU staff and members of the social forestry community in Aceh Province to receive Excel-based training on ecosystem services tools. The method used is counseling through training activities carried out for six days using excel-based ecosystem services tools, namely forest carbon, tree biodiversity, and forest integrity Assessment (FIA). The participants of this activity were 22 participants who came from KPH staff, forest community groups, local government agencies (BKSDA Aceh, BPDASL KA, TNGL), as well as staff and students of Forestry at Syiah Kuala University. The results obtained from this activity are direct understanding and practice by participants regarding the use of excel-based ecosystem service tools.
