Abstract

The research concerning antimitotic assay of ”Buah Merah” (Pandanus conoideus Lam) ethanol extract using sea urchin Tripneustes gratilla Linn eggs cleavage inhibition method had been conducted. The aim of this study was to determine the antimitotic  effect of buahMerah ethanol extract in to inhibit cell cleavage of fertilized sea urchin eggs. Buah Merah ethanol extract was made in to 5 concentration there was 0,001 µg/ml, 0,01 µg/ml, 0,1 µg/ml, 1 µg/ml and 10 µg/ml with vincristine as the compared. Quantivication of cell cleavage was performed visually under the light microscopy by counting the number of cleaveaged and non cleaveaged embryos after an incubation time of  ± 2 hours. If 80-100% inhibition of cleavage (IC80-100) occurs at ≤ 16 mg/ml, the compound is considered to be active as antimitotic. The result of this research showed that IC80 value of ”BuahMerah” ethanol extract was 0,026 mg/ml. According to the value ethanol extract was categorized active as antimitotic, although their potency lower than vincristin which can inhibit 80 % of fertilized sea urchin eggs at 2,789x10-4 mg/ml.Key words: Pandanus conoideus Lam, Antimitotic, Tripneustes gratilla Linn.

Abstract

Research of effect toksisitas of n-heksan faction of the beruwas laut (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.)Roxb.) leaf at prawn larva of Artemia salina Leach have been done as a mean to determine potency of toksisitas and value of LC50 beruwas laut (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.)Roxb.) leaf. As control used n-heksan. Before treatment, prawn egg of Artemia salina Leach incubated at some stage and after 48 hours prawn larva of Artemia salina Leach are ready to given treatment. Hereinafter n-heksan faction of beruwas laut (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.)Roxb.) leaf with concentration 0,1 ; 1 ; 10 ; 100 µg/ml in sea water enhanced 10 prawn larvas. For control, done same treatment. Perception done after 24 hours treatment by counting dead prawn larva. Result of perception indicate that value of LC50 n-heksan faction of beruwas laut (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.)Roxb.) leaf 4,17 ± 2,59 µg/ml. So that can be expressed that n-heksan faction of beruwas laut (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.)Roxb.) leaf have potency as anticancer, this matter is based by standard of Meyer (1982) expressing that a natural materials compound have potency of anticancer if value of LC50 <1000 µg/ml.   Key word : Toksisitas Test, Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.)Roxb, Brine Shrimp Lethality Test

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is an chronic autoimmune disease, which is characterized by inflammation and degradation of the joints and cartilages. Rheumatoid therapy is currently using immunosuppressant drugs, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and corticosteroids. Treatment of chronic rheumatoid can trigger side effects. Syzygium polyanthum leaves contain alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and essential oils consist of citral and eugenol which are thought to be potential as antirheumatoid. This study aims to determine the effect antirheumatoid arthritis and effective dose of ethanol extracts of Syzygium polyanthum leaf. This study used 15 male rats. Treatment started by measuring foot volume using a pletismometer and then inducting CFA intraplantary as much as 0,1 mL on day 1 and left until day 16th. On the day 17th a foot volume and arthritis index was measured and then treated until the day 30th. The animals were divided into 5 groups: negative control (Na. CMC 1%), positive control (methylprednisolone dose 1.646 mg / kg BW), ethanol extractof Syzygium polyanthum leaf at a dose of 75 mg / kg, 150 mg / kg and 300 mg / kg. On the day 31st, foot volume and arthritis index measurements were taken again. The results showed a decrease in foot volume and arthritis index after given of the extract. Foot volume difference data were analyzed using the One Way Anova test followed by the Post Hoc LSD test. The difference between the arthritis index data was analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis followed by the Mann-Whitney test. Statistical results show that positive control has the same effect as extract (P> 0.05). Based on the results of statistical analysis of inflammation of the foot volume and the arthritis index shows that the ethanol extract of Syzygium polyanthum leaf had an effect as an antirheumatoid arthritis

Abstract

Infectious diseases can be caused by the entry of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses that can cause diseases in humans. One of the plants used empirically by the Weda community in Central Halmahera is the stem part of the wole woe plant. The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial activity of the ethanol extract of wole woe stems against pathogenic microbes such as Propionibacterium acnes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella thypi, Shigella dysentriae, Vibrio cholerae, and Candida albicans. This study used the agar diffusion method with various concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%, and positive controls for bacteria with chloramphenicol, positive controls for fungi with nystatin, and DMSO as a negative control. Based on the average diameter of the inhibition zone obtained, the test microbes were classified into the medium-strong category because they had an inhibition zone diameter ranging from 9 mm to 13 mm. The positive control for chloramphenicol for bacteria was classified into the very strong category because it had an inhibition zone diameter of >20 mm, while the positive control for nystatin for fungi was classified into the strong category because it had an inhibition zone diameter of >10 mm. Based on these tests, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of wole woe stems has antimicrobial activity
