Abstract

Group of columns that inserted in the soft soil will increase shear strength and density of the soil, reduce soil settlement and liquefaction potential, and increase bearing capacity ofthe soil. Things that must be considered in columns design are diameter, length, space, and pattern of the columns group. This study aims to see the effect of diameter and columnspacing on bearing capacity of peat. Variation of diameter that used in this study are 3 cm, 4 cm, and 5,5 cm. Variation of space that used in this study are 1,25D, 1,5D, and 1,75D.The results of laboratory testing indicate that increasing the diameter dan decreasing the space between columns will increase bearing capacity of stabilized peat. Maximumbearing capacity given by 5,5 cm diameter and 1,25D space variation. The increasing of bearing capacity reaches 74,49%. The results of theoretical analysis give different tendency.Increasing of diameter dan space between columns will increase bearing capacity of the stabilized peat. This tendency difference is due to the influence of overlap between soils withinthe unit cell due to the very close space of the column.Keywords : stone column, diameter, space, bearing capacity

Abstract

Coastal area is a very vulnerable to changes, because dynamic movement which are cause by the wave. A wave move bring a very easy basic particle coast and make errotion andaccresion in some area of coast. But, a coast will be return into a basic form if they had a balance character. Equilibrium Beach Profile (EBP) method is empirical correlation a scale parameter and the sediment size or fall velocity allow computation z = Ax2/3. Thismethod first time applicated by Robert G Dean in the beach California, United States. A purpose of research is want to know a balance of the coast in Sinaboi, Rokan Hilir with Equilibrium Beach Profile method. From analysis cross section data in some area, a slope formed by Equilibrium Beach Profile method almost approaching existing slope. A some cross section data which has a difference with existing slope and then justified a parameter.Keyword: coast, slope, equilibrium beach profile, coast change.

Abstract

Ground improvement by using reinforcement developed rapidly in recent decades. Since it was first introduced by Vidal (1966), this method is suitable to reduced the deformation of both lateral and vertical deformation. Clay materials used because of its availabilityand lower cost, clay have shown good performance as embankment, and for the reinforcement material using 10 mm steel bar. This laboratory-scale test prepared at two dry side water content, two wet side water content and optimum water content (OMC), while the pullout resistance from longitudinal reinforcement. Pullout resistance reinforcement would be highest when the water content of clay are in optimum condition, adhesi is the dominant force in this pullout resistance test. Abstract

The development of construction engineering science in water and soft soil areas, to overcome the problem of construction on soft soil, a pile raft foundation solution is chosen. Pile raft foundation system is a blend of pile foundation (pile)with a foundation raft, which works in one unit and simultaneously. Analysis of the bearing capacity of the pile raft foundation is carried out by means of laboratory scale testing and then compared with calculations. In the pile raft foundation, variations in the number of piles were used. The method used to calculate the theoretical bearing data using the Terzaghi method, to obtain the carrying capacity of the test carried out an interpretation of the value of the bearing capacity of the foundation taken from the load value at 25mm settlement, in accordance with ASTM D1143-81. The calculation results and test results show that the combined pile raft foundation can increase the bearing capacity of the foundation. The addition of piles to the raft foundation can reduce settlement and increase the bearing capacity of the foundation. The carrying capacity value is calculated and tested based on a decrease of 25 mm, this is done in order to produce the right results. Keyword: bearing capacity, pile raft, settlement

Abstract

Helical piles are a type of foundation that come with helical plate in certain number and space. The research will present the results of loading test using constant rate penetration method conducted on peat soil. Data obtained from the test are load and settlement which then interpreted using both terzaghi and method and tangent intersection method. The result shows no proportional correlation between the load capacity of helical pile withsimilar diameter and the increase of helical plate distance. The bearing capacity of helical pile is influenced by the ratio between the space and the diameter of the plate. The aforementioned load tests are compared with the result of bearing capacity calculationusing individual bearing and cylindrical shear method. It is obtained from the result that the bearing capacity of helical foundation is closer to the behaviour of bearing capacityobtained from cylindrical shear method with 0.633 standard of error while the bearing capacity of individual bearing method is close to the result of standard load test with .637 standard of error.Keyword : helical foundation, peat soil, individual bearing, cylindrical shear.

Abstract

High plasticity is poor physical and mechanical properties of the soil, so it is deemed not to meet a certain technical properties for bearing a construction. It is usually has a low bearing capacity, high compressibility and high swelling and shrinkage behaviour, where it needs to be stabilized. This study attempted to stabilize high plasticity soils using cement and Difa Soil Stabilizer as addictive material. This study investigated effect of Difa Soil Stabilizer to physical and mechanical properties (UCS test). Difa Soil Stabilizer and cement varied from 0.6%, 0.8%, 1.0%, and 3% and 5% of soil dry weight respectively. UCS test was conducted at optimum water content after 0, 7, and 14 days curing. The results show that Difa Soil Stabilizer could not work optimally without cement. Curing days for soil, cement and Difa Soil Stabilizer increase UCS value. Maximum UCS value (878.7 kPa) was obtained at 14 days of curing for mixture of soil + 5% cement. UCS value for mixture of soil + 3% cement has a lower UCS value (344.4 kPa). For soil, cement and Difa Soil Stabilizer mix, highest UCS value was obtained at 0.6% Difa Soil Stabilizer i.e 720,4 kPa at 14 days of curing with 18.012 % lower than maximum UCS value. Abstract

Deposits of high plasticity clays are lay in several locations in Pekanbaru such as Muara Fajar and Minas, Since higher clay plasticity found, soil strength will be reduced when its directly face offto water. Lime has a long time used as a material to reduce soil plasticity, as well as cement. Several types of ash (rice husk ash, fly ash etc.) have also been widely used to improve physical and mechanical properties of clay. Lot of sawing waste are located on the suburb of Pekanbaru city. Theexistence of waste will become a problem in the future. The wood ash was combined with lime and cement. This research was carried out by creating samples, with combining variation of lime and wood ash with clay's that contain 5% cement. Samples for CBR and UCS tests, were carried out withand without curing and soaking. Treatment of specimens was taken of 28 days for curing and 4 days for soaking of each test. The expansion of samples was observed to see swelling of each mixturevariation. This study aims to observe the addition of wood ash to behavior of plasticity, Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS), Bearing Capacity and Swelling Potential of high plasticity clay. Research shows that for Muara Fajar clay's, by adding cement, lime, and wood ash gradually to the clay, value of plasticity index change from high plasticity clay to high plasticity silt. The maximum value of UCS and CBR occurs on mixture of 90% clay + 10% lime. The curing and soaking treatment also affect to the value of UCS and CBR test. The highest value of UCS and CBR was found in samples in curing of 28 days. Abstract

Teluk Belitung beach is located on the outer side of Asam strait that relate directly to Malacca strait and South China sea. It causes the ocean waves directly on the shoreline that pose an enough serious problem of shoreline change along the coastline. For it, necessary to study about the shoreline changes that occur coastline. This study was conducted using GENESIS program for simulate shoreline changes that will occur within a period of 5 years, 10 years and 15 years ahead. The data used to perform simulations using GENESIS  program is coastal bathymetry, winds, waves, soil properties of coast land and ocean currents and tides data. Simulation results obtained  from the increase in value of the shoreline changes that occur in the form of accretion and erosion along coastlines. Five-years results of the simulation time showed maximum shoreline change reaches 26,1 meters, which increases the simulation time of 10-years to reach 52,1 meters and at the simulation time 15-years to reach 78 meters. Analysis results of simulation results obtained the main factors that affecting the magnitude of shoreline change is occured. The soil  properties of coastal land has a grain size and cohesion of little value, so that when the waves come to the shore will be easiliy eroded coastal cliffs and carrying granules are eroded.  Keywords: shoreline change, accretion, erosion, GENESIS

Abstract

Helical pile can provide an alternative for wood pile over peat soil. The reaserch studied about the effect of spacing of helical plates to uplift capacity of helical pile and compared to wood pile and helical without pile. The spacing of helical plates used were 20, 30, and 50 cm. Uplift iltimate capacity was interpreted by Tangent Intersection and Terzaghi and Peck method. Theoritical uplift capacity of helical pile was calculated using Iindividual Plate Bearing and Cylindrical Shear method. Based on the result, correlation of uplift capacity and spacing of helical plates was not linier proportional. Spacing of helical plates 30 cm showed the biggest capacity compared to space 20 and 50 cm. According to interpretation method, the uplift capacity of helical pile approach to Cylindrical Shear mechanism better than Individual Bearing. More over, helical pile had a greater uplift capacity compared to wood pile or helical without pile.Keywords: Helical Pile, Spacing of Helical Plates, Peat soil, uplift Capacity, Wood Pile, pile without helical.

Abstract

Advancements in science and technology of civil engineering have led the development of modifications to the shape of pile foundation. Modification of the pile foundation by adding wings to the pile is one way to increase skin friction on soft soil, so that a greater bearing capacity is obtained. In this research, piles were modeled with variations of wing’s lengths of 0.50D, 0.75D, 1.00D, and 1.25D, the distance between wings also varies from 3D, 6D, and 9D. Constant Rate of Penetration (CRP Test) will be used as a method for loading test. The bearing capacity based on loading test data will be analyzed using Terzaghi and Peck method Analysis results showed that winged foundations were able to bearing greater loads than normal piles. The largest pile bearing capacity occurs in pile models with wing lengths of 1.25D and distance of 3D (TS2-1.25D-3D). Addition of wing length until 1.25D will always improve the piles bearing capacity. Unlike wing’s length, addition of the distance between the wings until 9D not always improve the piles bearing capacity.
