Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the essay-writing skills of students in Indonesian education institutions. A descriptive study approach was used to collect data from a group of students. Students were given three topics to choose from and were instructed to write academic essays within a certain time range. The student writings were gathered and scored using a scoring rubric that assessed several components of the essays. The data obtained were statistically analysed using descriptive analysis to describe the students’ essay writing skills. According to the findings of this study, the majority of students performed modestly on the writing test, with some performing better than others. The research found that the students struggled with organization and consistency, while their grammar and word usage still required to be improved. The study highlights the importance of enhancing students' writing skills to a higher level

Abstract

This study examines the analysis of novels with a structural approach that aims to (1) analyze the structure in the form of intrinsic elements that build the novel Bumi by Tere Liye and (2) categorize and describe the types of Bumi novels by Tere Liye, which focuses on the types of fantasy novels. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with the data collection method, which is the first step in carrying out the observation method, followed by the reading and recording method. The source of the research data is in the form of data taken from the novel Bumi by Tere Liye. Furthermore, the data analysis method used is the flow model of analysis including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research conducted showed that the novel Bumi by Tere Liye has a complete structure and intertwining between intrinsic elements including theme, plot, characterization, setting, point of view, and language style that characterizes the author in the novel. The story in this novel is easy to understand because it uses an advanced or progressive plot by going through several stages, namely the initial stage (introduction), the conflict emergence stage, the complication stage, the climax stage, the resolution stage (problem solving), and the final stage. Characterization consisting of the protagonist and the antagonist. The setting used in this novel is also divided into a place setting, a time setting, and an atmosphere setting. The point of view used is the single first-person point of view as the main culprit. In addition, the type of Earth novels is included in the type of fantasy novels that are imaginative and imaginary of an author.

Abstract

ELT teachers in Indonesia mostly apply an integrative language teaching approach to cover the linguistic elements of language skills. However, the pronunciation in speaking exposure is required to be accurate through the intervention of phonological awareness. Thus, this study examines the effect of phonological awareness on students’ English pronunciation and how it provokes students’ motivation in speaking English. This study used a pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental group which consisted of 36 participants was given a phonological awareness intervention and the control group which consisted of 36 participants was given without any intervention. The instruments of the study were a text reading-aloud task and a questionnaire. Data were then analyzed using Pearson correlation and independent sample t-test. The findings revealed that phonological awareness instruction positively impacted participants’ pronunciation performance with better phonemes articulation, more appropriate stress determination, and more adequate intonation that directly provoked their speaking motivation. Therefore, EFL teachers should determine the phonological awareness approach for the potential English competence and performance integrated into the learning syllabus more intensively.

Abstract

Vocabulary development is critical from both a theoretical and a practical point of view. Vocabulary is a central factor in the process of language learning. This research is based on the idea that students are required to use English in daily interactions in the school's language program. Therefore, learning English vocabulary is crucial for improving students’ language skills. Teachers must know the students' abilities before conducting the learning activities. This study used ex post facto research design to reveal students’ vocabulary ability by conducting sentence construction tests. The study found that students' vocabulary is at a sufficient level. Therefore, students are required to improve their vocabulary to a higher level. This study highlights that various vocabulary activities should be intensified in the classroom to build up students’ active vocabulary and enable them to speak communicatively.

Abstract

Pengetahuan dan ketrampilan mitra serati Anak Agung Raka Pujiatmika dalam mengasilkan produk sarana upacara perlu dibina dan dilatih bertahap sehingga pelestarian budaya, nilai agama dan pengembangkan ekonomi di tengah masyarakat dapat diwujudkan. Terdapat tiga aspek yang mendapat perhatian yaitu produksi, pemasaran dan kewirausahaan. Kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dilaksanakn selama 3 bulan, yakni dari bulan April sampai bulan Juni telah berjalan sesuai ancangan usulan. IPTEKS tepat guna bagi kelompok serati telah dilaksankan melalui Tecnology Transfer (TT) berupa pelatihan pembuatan beberapa jenis sarana upacara, seperti pembuatan hiasan janur, pembuatan ketupat upakara, buat jajan upakara, pendampingan managemen kewirausahaan dan pemasaran produk. Kegiatan ini telah menunjukkan beberapa peningkatan baik dari segi pengetahuan cara produksi banten ataupun ketrampilan mengatur keuangan usaha dan promosi hasil produksi. Kemajuan program pelatihan serati pembuat sarana upacara keagamaan ini dapat dilihat dari hasil kerja, seperti kemampuan membuat banten khusus untuk upacara ngaben dan pengetahuan dari kemampuan menjelaskan makna banten. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa mitra sudah mampu mengerjakan berbagai jenis banten, mengemas atau menyajikan banten serta menyusun anggaran banten. Perlu dilaporkan bahwa kegiatan ini juga telah menghasilkan struktur organisasi serati mesari.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami unsur intrinsik siswa kelas VII D SMP N 1 Susut tahun pelajaran 2023/2024. Khususnya dalam bidang sastra cerita rakyat  berupa dongeng sangat memberikan impirasi pada  anak dalam menciptakan kreatifitas yang dapat meningkatkan minat belajar mengajar   di sekolah.   Karya sastra   berupa dongeng dapat menjadi pedoman  bagi guru untuk meningkatkan   semangat  siswa yang dapat diarahkan pada karya sastra sehingga bakat dan minat siswa yang ada khususnya  karya Indonesia dapat diarahkan dengan baik. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menggunakan metode pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan prasiklus 4,15, pada siklus pertama nilai siswa 6,72, siklus kedua nilai siswa 7,09 dan di siklus ketiga nilai siswa 8,24.

Abstract

Classroom action research (CAR) in class XI aims to improve students' critical thinking in MA by implementing a problem-based learning model in speaking skills.Ruhul Amin Lamon's academic year is 2022-2023.MA applied to Class XIRuhul Amin Lamongan The data in this study were obtained using observation and tests to observe students' speaking abilities. The data that has been collected was analyzed using descriptive quantitative and descriptive qualitative methods. Based on the research results, this PTK was carried out in two cycles, showing that speaking skills could improve students' critical thinking skills. This can be seen from the average student's speaking skills score in the initial test of 4.14 in the lower category. Cycle I was 5.6 with an almost sufficient category, but in the application to the pre-cycle and cycle I, there were still weaknesses that occurred in the learning process, namely, the student's lack of seriousness in reading the text given, while the alternative solution was given, namely, creating a new, pleasant atmosphere. Based on this solution, there was an increase of 2.22, so in cycle II the average score obtained by students was 7.82 in the "good"

Abstract

The aims of this study were: (1) to find out the forms of deixis and (2) the function of deixis in the Toba Dreams film. This type of research used a qualitative descriptive approach by means of descriptive writing. The data collection method was carried out by observing, documenting, observing and taking notes. While the data analysis method used in this study is the Analysis Interactive Model from Miles and Huberman, which divides the steps in data analysis activities into several parts, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or data verification. The results of this study show that basically (1) the forms of deixis found in the Toba Dreams film are persona, time, place, discourse and social deixis. Of the five forms of deixis found, the deixis that appears the most in the Toba Dreams film is the use of deixis persona. (2) The function of deixis in Toba dreams, persona deixis functions as personal pronouns. Time deixis functions as a pronoun that refers to when the utterance is spoken. Place deixis functions as a pronoun. Discourse deixis functions as a pronoun in discourse. And social deixis functions as a pronoun as a reference to the social status that exists in society. The conclusion of this study is that five forms of deixis are determined, namely persona, time, place, discourse and social deixis which function as pronouns or references to personal pronouns. , place pronouns, time pronouns, discourse pronouns and social status pronouns.
