Abstract

During life-threatening situations such as the Covid-19 pandemic, disinformation is rife. While people project their affective aspects into understanding the situation, their fear of Covid-19 interferes with their logical and reasonable assessment of disinformation. Less credible information such as rumors becomes reliable for some people. This study aims to map the disinformation category based on the Ministry of Communication and Information report from January to March 2020. There are 359 hoaxes with five categories and 30 sub-categories. This study uses qualitative content analysis as a method. The study results revealed that most of the disinformation during the Covid-19 pandemic was related to the spread of hoaxes on health issues. This research implies that several recommendations are made to respond to the urgency of handling disinformation during Covid-19 in Indonesia, such as initiating digital literacy and media literacy in the national education system.

Abstract

Health Communication in general and therapeutic communication in particular as relatively new communication fields are getting more important at the present, let alone in Indonesia with a population of over 270 million people. They come from hundreds of ethnic groups that may have different assumptions about the causes of and the solutions to various diseases and illnesses. Many health problems are related to communication problems between health providers and patients who may come from different cultures. These communication problems occasionally lead to medical malpractice. It is based on this reason that effective communication between healthcare staff (doctors and nurses) and patients (and their families) is deemed critical in bringing about satisfying results for both parties. This study aims to unravel therapeutic communication between healthcare staff and family members of patients. It used a phenomenological qualitative research method. The sample of the study were family members of child patients hospitalized in two hospitals in Jakarta who accompanied the child patients during their hospitalization from 2015 to 2017 and in 2019. The sample consisted of 30 participants; they all were interviewed and observed in the study. Without aiming to make generalizations, the research findings showed that in essence the research participants were satisfied with the communication conducted by the healthcare staff and the BPJS (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial or Social Security Administrator) program provided by the Government. But some of them had their unspoken dissatisfaction with the overall treatment process related to doctors’ communication and the deficiency of the BPJS program.

Abstract

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world has changed human life in all areas of life, including education. In education, learning and instruction are important to higher education students. Covid-19 affected learning design from face-to-face learning in the class become distance learning. Distance learning is an institution-based formal education in which students and instructors are located in separate locations, thus requiring an interactive telecommunication system to connect the two and the various resources required in it. Many things need to be fixed and updated in terms of materials and platforms used. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to show the need for distance learning innovation by using podcast media as an additional alternative platform to answer distance learning challenges.  The results showed that the podcast system in the form of recordings made it easier for students to listen to the material presented by the instructor. Podcasts made students enthusiastic about learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
