Abstract

The incidence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia continues to increase. There are some complications in the diabetic condition, one of which is diabetic ulcer. Diabetic ulcers in diabetes patient can increase the risk of amputation and expensive treatment costs, so the alternative treatmeant such as Merremia mammosa wich has antiinflamatory and antidiabetic is needed. This study aimed to determine the comparison of the number of macrophage in the incisional wound in hyperglycemic male wistar rats between treatment with Merremia mammosa extract and NaCl. The in vivo test was done by creating wound incision on the mice backs and treated with gentamycin ointment 5% in a positive control group, NaCl in a negative control group and Merremia mammosa extract in a dose of 100m), 200mg, 400mg in treatment group. The result obtained by counting the number of macrophage in histopatholgy examination. The result showed the number of macrophage were 0,36 cells/field of view in a negative control group, 0,52 cells/field of view in a positive control group, 0,48 cells/field of view in all Merremia mammosa treatment groups. The data analysis showed no significant difference with p-value of 0,729. In conclusion, there was no significant difference between the used of Merremia mammosa extract and NaCl on full thickness incisional wounds of hyperglycemic male wistar rats. Abstract

Lead is commonly used in batteries, electrical cabel, and pipe manufacture. Despite its usefulness, lead has some sentrimental effects such as intoxication by chronic lead exposure results in peripheral neuropathy. This research was to determine the effect of oral administration of leadacetate to the thickness of mielin n.ischiadicus.  The post test only control group design was used assigning.Thirty male  rats into five groups of treatment. Aquadest was administered to group I. Lead acetate with doses of rats were sacrificed: 65, 125, 250, and 500 mg/kgbw/day were administered to group II, III, IV, and V. Lead acetate were given daily for 10 weeks and then to make histological preparations from n.ischiadicus using osmic acid as fixative and toloidin blue as staining agents.The results research showed that oraladministration of lead acetate affected the thickness of mielin with higher does resulted in thinner mielin. Keywords:thickness of mielin, lead acetate, oral

Abstract

Electrical injury merupakan suatu kerusakan pada jaringan atau organ tubuh akibat adanya aliran arus listrik yang melewati tubuh. Pembuluh darah merupakan salah satu jaringan yang mengalami kerusakan ketika terjadi electrical injury. Salah satu kerusakan pada pembuluh darah adalah adanya trombus yang dapat mengganggu aliran darah sehingga menyebabkan  tatalaksana electric injury menjadi kurang baik. Tujuan umum dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis histopatologi pembuluh darah tikus berdasarkan jarak luka masuk pasca paparan listrik. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian eksperimental sebenarnya dengan  rancangan post test only control group design. Penelitian ini menggunakan 25 ekor tikus wistar yang dibagi menjadi lima kelompok. Perlakuan yang diberikan berupa paparan listrik sebesar 140 V selama 17 detik. Kelompok kontrol merupakan kelompok yang tidak diberi paparan listrik, kelompok H0 diterminasi pada hari ke-0 pasca paparan listrik, kelompok  H3 diterminasi pada hari ke-3 pasca paparan listrik, kelompok H7 diterminasi pada hari ke-7 pasca paparan listrik, kelompok H10 diterminasi pada hari ke-10 pasca paparan listrik. Pada penelitian ini, hal yang diamati yaitu persentase trombus pada arteri saphena dekstra berdasaran jarak dari luka masuk. Hipotesis diterima apabila hasil analisis data menggunakan One Way Anova atau Kruskall Wallis menghasilkan p<0.05. Secara garis besar, pada hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa bahwa persentase trombus semakin berkurang ketika semakin jauh dari luka masuk, kecuali pada kelompok H7. Selain itu, hasil penelitian  menunjukkan bahwa secara garis besar persentase trombus  bertambah  seiring berjalannya waktu dan menurun pada waktu tertentu. Namun, pada penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik pada gambaran histopatologi pembuluh darah, khususnya trombus pasca paparan listrik berdasarkan jarak luka masuk di hari ke-0, ke-3, ke-7, dan ke-10.

Abstract

Hand surface area is considered as 1% of body surface area is used as one way in determining the extent of burns. There are differences of percentage of hand surface area in literatures. This study aimed to determine the ratio of hand surface area and palm surface area towards body surface area in young adults at the University of Jember based on Body Mass Index (BMI) and sex. This study was observational analytic with cross sectional approach. The samples were 120 young adults at the University of Jember, divided into 4 groups of BMI i.e. thin, normal, overweight, and obese. The analysis used in this study was One Way Anova and Independent T-test. The average percentage of the hand surface area on male 0.757%, female 0.702%, thin group 0.794%, normal 0.747%, overweight 0.704%, and obese 0.677%. Test analysis between men and women obtained significance value <0.05 while between groups of BMI obtained significance value <0.05 except between overweight and obese. It concluded that the percentage of hand surface area was different between genders and BMI groups. The percentage of the hand surface area was smaller with an increase of BMI. Abstract

Wound healing need protein as basis for the formation of collagen network. The important component of protein is albumin. The aim of this study was to investigate albumin serum’s effect on wound healing in patients postoperative laparotomy and lumbotomy at dr. Soebandi Hospital Jember. The method of study was analytic observational with cross sectional design. Total samples in this study were 9 samples. The results showed that the higher albumis, the faster wound healing. Data analysis using bivariate analyzing Spearman's Rho test showed that the significance (p)=0.011 and correlation coefficients (r)=0.791. Thus, it can be concluded that there were a strong albumin serum’s effect of wound healing in patients postoperative laparotomy and lumbotomy at RSD dr. Soebandi Jember.

Abstract

Burns is a serious global health problem. Annually, 265.000 dead occured because of burns. Local burns wound treatment ideally uses material that can act as antimicrobial and antiinflamation, as well conditions moist environtment. Cucumber contains flavonoid and saponin that enhance Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor that can increase angiogenesis. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of cucumber extract gel and cucumber powder gel on number of vascular lumen angiogenesis of IIB-burn wound healing in wistar rat. This research was true experimental laboratories with post test control only design by using wistar rats and divided into 8 groups. Rats were burns-induced and then terminated on the 3rd and the 10th day, each group consist of negative control group (normal saline), positive control group (gentamycin eye ointment), treatment group 1 (cucumber extract gel), treatment group 2 (cucumber powder gel). Data analysis using One Way ANOVA test for the 3rd day and the 10th day on vascular lumen number showed 0,031 and 0,036 (p<0,05) significance respectively. In conclusion, there was significant difference for cucumber extract gel and cucumber powder gel towards vascular lumen number in IIB-burns wound healing in wistar rat. Abstract

The healing process of burns can be disturbed by bacteria and free radicals. Polyphenol (flavonoid and procyanidin) in cocoa have an antibacterial activity, antiinflammatory and antioxidants. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the cocoa beans ethanolic extract on the second degree burns healing process by measuring the number of fibroblasts. The in vivo test was done by creating a second degree burns on the mice backs then treated with either: the ethanolic extract of cocoa beans gel 8 %, Silver Sulfadiazine or Normal saline. The number of fibroblasts was counted in histopatholgy preparations. The result showed the number of fibroblasts 26.67 cells/field of view in Normal saline group; 44.23 cells/field of view in Silver Sulfadiazine group; 50.02 cells/field of view in the ethanolic extract of cocoa beans gel 8 % group. The data analysis showed significant differences between treatment groups. The conclusion was the ethanolic extract of cocoa beans affect the healing process on second degree burns and the number of fibroblasts in the ethanolic extract of cocoa beans gel 8% group was higher than Normal saline and Silver Sulfadiazine groups. Abstract

Mentoring families and people with cleft lip and palate surgery to treatment are still not optimal in Jember city. Due before 2014, there is no hospital that specializes in the treatment of cleft lip and palate social concept, partnering with community empowerment companion. It is also caused by a lack of specific strategies used by the facilitators for this. The existence of a social marketing volunteer strategy, a strategy that has been shown to have positive implications for the handling of cleft lip and palate due to effective direct communication between social worker with sufferers and their families so that patients and families more easily understanding the process of handling lip and palate. This improved can reduce the morbidity and even mortality rates in Jember agroindustry area. In this community service, we engage in activities that consist of 1) the stage of pre-hospitalization, 2) phase of hospitalization and, 3) the stage of post-hospitalization. The purpose of this public service is to apply the strategy social marketing volunteers in order to streamline the handling of cleft lip and palate. Mentoring families and people with cleft lip and palate surgery to treatment using strategy volunteer social marketing are very efficient.

Abstract

Background: The reality shows that people with cleft lip and palate initially refuse to perform surgery. The reason are 1) the patient feels fear because the myth of the operation is dangerous; 2) the myth of skin for operation is taken from the thigh; 3) they feel afraid that they cannot pay operating costs because it is very expensive and 4) there is information if a patients do examination in the hospital only for taking photographs but no realization for treatment. This study aims to describe the meaning of social marketing strategy experience of a volunteer in handling cleft lip and palate in Jember and Bondowoso. Methods: Qualitative research with phenomenology design using in-depth interview technique on two participants with characteristics: 1) social marketing volunteer; 2) understand and be able to speak Indonesian; 3) expressed willingness to become a participant. Results: The research produced four strategic themes that it is used by social workers to assist in handling cleft lip and palate patients. The strategy included knowing the causes of delay in surgery, making a network, generating trust in patients, using media as tool or way of communicating with society. Conclusions: Social marketing volunteer experience in Jember and Bondowoso is very spesific with using four strategies as key to success supporting and handling society with cleft lip, and palate willing to do the operation. This strategies can be adopted as the approach of health worker such as nurses in overcoming health problems. Keywords: phenomenology, cleft lip, and palate, volunteer social marketing, strategy
