Abstract

The agricultural sector in the highlands of North Sumatra is the main sector of economic support for the people in the area. Although some sub-sectors have not shown significant improvement in the economy. For this reason, researchers are interested in analyzing each basic or superior sub-sector, so that policies can be taken to solve existing problems. The purpose of this study was to analyze the superior commodities of the upland agricultural sector in North Sumatra. The data used in the secondary data is obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2019 covering the food crop sub-sector, the vegetable and fruit horticulture sub-sector, the livestock sub-sector, the plantation sub-sector. To answer the research questions, LQ analysis is used to determine superior commodities. The results showed that the food crop sub-sector in the highlands was a superior commodity with LQ = 1.62. The vegetable and fruit horticultural sub-sector is included in the basic or superior category with each value (1.13), (1.80). The plantation sub-sector has the greatest LQ value with an LQ value of 2.90. So it can be concluded that upland agricultural commodities in North Sumatra are generally the base agricultural sector.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze income and the factors that influence the production of lowland rice farming in Deli Serdang Regency. The number of respondents of rice farmers in as many as 120 people. While the method used is the analysis of the Cobb-Douglas production function which is then converted into an inferential Principal Component Analysis (PCA) analysis, technical efficiency analysis with the stochastic frontier. The results showed that the factors of land area (X1), number of workers (X2), use of fertilizers (X3), pesticides (X4), and seeds (X5) had a significant effect on the production of lowland rice farming in Deli Serdang Regency. The results of the t test show that partially the factors that affect the production of land area, seeds, fertilizers, and labor have a significant effect on the productivity of lowland rice farming in Deli Serdang Regency. In the analysis of rice farming income in Meintang Market and Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang Regency, the total variable costs were Rp. 6,196.756, total fixed costs were Rp. 289.485. So that the level of income obtained by respondent farmers is Rp. 13,200,199.

Abstract

Farmers' motivation to plant carrots (Daucus carota L.) in Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency. Carrot (Daucus carota L.) is one of the leading commodities in Karo Regency. The motivation of farmers as carrot plant business developers is a situation that spurs farmers to do a business, what is the basis for farmers to plant carrots, obstacles in growing carrots and what benefits can be obtained from planting carrots. The aims of the research were to find out: (1) farmers' motivation in planting carrots; (2) factors influencing farmer motivation; (3) the relationship between the factors that influence motivation and the motivation of farmers in planting carrots. The research method is a quantitative method with survey techniques. The research is located in Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency. Sampling using accidental sampling technique as many as 20 farmers. Motivation was analyzed using a questionnaire based on assessment criteria in an effort to find out how the level of motivation of farmers in planting carrots (Daucus carota L.) in Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency
