Abstract

Evaluation instrument is a holistic assessment tool for learners to acquire information in accordance with the standards of competence and basic competences that should be possessed by learners. The evaluation instruments include cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domain. This research is a developmental research of 3 D 4 D model (Four-D Models). The development process is carried out as follows: 1) definition, 2) design, 3) development. Test subjects were students of SMAN 1 Pekanbaru class XI Science. The data of this study is primary data consists of the results of the validation instruments, instrument reliability, and the practicalities of the instrument. Data were analyzed with descriptive analysis in the form of a percentage. The results showed that the instrument is very valid and practical evaluation. Evaluation instruments in are the form of written tests, performance assessments of cognitive, affective performance, psychomotor performance assessment, project assessment, product assessment, self-assessment, an assessment of learners, journal / notes educators..

Abstract

Communication is a significant skill for students to be mastered because it is related to their skills in producing sounds and expressing their opinions using linguistics and sociolinguistics competences. To improve speaking skill, the students should have good knowledge and understanding of vocabularies that they could use to build words and sentences based on the language contexts. This research conducted to find out whether there is a correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ speaking skills, and the method used is descriptive quantitative using the statistic analysis SPSS 20. The participant of this research is ten grade students of SMK MANBAUL KHAIR in the first semester 2019/2020 academic year. The research finds that there is a positive correlation between the students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ speaking skills. Although the correlation is low, calculated r = 0.394, it is still considered that this correlation is positive, that means teachers should give the students related meaningful materials to build their vocabularies and provide the opportunity for the students to practice using their new vocabularies.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the correlation between Self-Regulated Learning Strategies (SRLS) and Students’ English Achievement. The knowledge and application of SRLS will significantly influence learners academic achievement due to their autonomously participation and involvement in regulating their own learning. Research methodology used is descriptive quantitative study with 100 participants from grade first high school students, collected using random sampling technique. Data was collected through questionnaires and English proficiency test. The result of this study shows that there is positive correlation between SRLS and Students’ English Achievement. Students who have better knowledge and use SRLS in their study are getting better achievement in English test because of their responsibility in learning. The refore, it is important for teachers to apply SRLS in the teaching and learning process to increase and foster the students’ implementation of SRLS in their learning.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the students’ reading comprehension using pictures in Collaborative Learning. The method used is descriptive quantitative. The data is taken from the results of pretest and post test to seventh grade students of SMP 267 Jakarta. Both the average results of pretest and post test and the statistical analysis using SPSS 17 shows that there is a significant improvement of the use of pictures in Collaborative Learning. Pictures as the media of teaching stimulates the students interest and also motivate them to read more; they become familiar with the expected reading text by relating it with the pictures and their previous knowledge. To get more better result, the Collaborative Learning as the teaching method is applicated to sharpen the students’ collaboration in group learning, so they can share ideas and opinions to solve the problems they get in understanding and comprehending the reading text.

Abstract

Collaborative learning is one of the method of teaching and learning that motivate the students to work in group and discuss their learning with their pairs so that the students have to share their knowledge and opinions. It gives the students opportunity to teach each other and collaborate their learning simultanously. Reading becomes more enjoyable for the students due to their collaborativeness in trying to understand the passage being read and comprehend their reading. The process of learning also makes the students aware of their strength and weaknesses. Therefore, the research is conducted to know the effect of both variables. The Research methodology used is descriptive quantitative study using 80 students as the sample which is chosen randomly. Data was collected through pre test and post test in the form of multiple choice test to the samples. Data analysis uses descriptive statistics. The research result shows that there is a significant effect of collaborative learning and the students’s reading comprehension. It means that the implementation of collaborative learning method has influenced the students’ comprehending of the reading passage better. The students completely engage in their learning and motivate each other to understand the reading and answering the tasks. Teachers also have good influenced as facilitators to help the students in building relationship in their groups and encourage them to give and respon to their pairs’ opinions

Abstract

The aim of the research is to know the effects of grammar mastery towards student’s reading comprehension.Grammar has an important role in mastering a language, and comprehending reading is also one of the ways to improve language learning. Therefore, it is necessary to know whether both variables have significantly effect to each other. Research methodology used is descriptive quantitative study. Sample are taken 80 students, and the sample taken with random technique. Data was collected through multiple choice test to the samples. Data analysis uses descriptive statistics. The research result shows that grammar mastery has a significant effect or influence towards the improvement of student’s reading comprehension. In other words the students who guided better grammar mastery are better to comprehend reading. Learning a language can hardly be defined from its grammatical. The language is mastered when the students can use it correctly and comunicatively either in oral or written. Thus, in learning English, the students must engage well to its grammatical. The results contribute most to the increasing of student’s reading comprehension. Key words: Grammar, Grammar Mastery, Language Learning, Reading Comprehension

Abstract

Abstract The object of this research is to apply storytelling method in teaching English speaking. The research was conducted at the fourth grade SDN Cengkareng Barat 03 Pagi in academic year 2017/2018. In process teaching, writer used theory by Fikriah which describes about procedures of teaching used storytelling method to improved speaking skill. Writer used picture as media and also students experience to learn English speaking. The writer analyses the process of teaching and collecting data through; field research, library research, and internet. There are some difficulties in English speaking that found at SDN Cengkareng Barat 03 pagi, such as students’ vocabulary still less, lack of ideas to tell, and students afraid to speak louder. During process teaching run, there are some advantages of using storytelling method, these was : (1) Improving students’ activeness and imagination in speaking, especially in the implementing or telling a story (2) students brave to speak in front of class to tell the story (3) by practice directly students more understood the material given. Thus, it can be said that storytelling method could improve students’ speaking skill

Abstract

The main thing that must be learned in mastering a language is words. Words are related to morphology because morphology affects spelling, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. In understanding the meaning of vocabulary, language users need to study morphology, especially derivational and inflectional morphemes. This research is designed to identify and explain the process of derivational and inflectional morphemes in the poems. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research is the poetries of William Shakespeare entitled All the World’s A Stage and Fidele ((Fear no more the heat o’ the sun). The results showed that there were 61 morphemes consisting of 18 derivational morphemes and 43 inflectional morphemes. The meaning of derivational and inflectional are derivational prefix: un-, derivational suffix: -ly, -er, -ful, -ish, -ness, -ous, -ing, -ed, and –tion; and inflectional suffix: -s, -ed, irregular verb, -‘s, -ing.

Abstract

The objective of this study is about to see the effectiveness of picture towards students’ writing skill of descriptive text for grade X of SMK Negeri 13 Jakarta in academic year 2018/2019. This research is quantitative using quasi-experimental method. The population was grade X students of SMK Negeri 13 Jakarta. It was conducted in two classes as sample. The instruments used were documentation and test. T-test was used to determine whether there was a significance difference or not between students’ scores in experimental class and students’ scores in control class. The result of the study showed that the calculation of the value of ttest is 2.92 and the degree of freedom (df) is 54. The value of t-table in the degree of freedom and at the degree of significance 5% is 1.674. It means picture is effective towards students’ writing skill of descriptive text for grade X at SMK Negeri 13 Jakarta in academic year 2018/2019. Finally the writer suggests that teachers should use picture as one of the media in teaching writing of descriptive text.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to understand the meaning of Struggle. A struggle is an effort made or done by a person or group that can influence an event with hard work that is full of challenges to achieve something Struggle is also hard work accompanied by a strong desire to get it without being tired. The writer used the qualitative method to analyze the type of struggle of the main character “Jane Eyre” in Jane Eyre movie. The results of the analysis are the writer found three types of struggle in the movie, they are, Struggle of life, Struggle of love, and Internal Struggle. In the movie, the main character is a woman named Jane who runs against the Gothic stereotype of the submissive woman in distress. Physically plain and slight, Jane is acutely intelligent and fiercely independent. She is also a shrewd judge of character.
