Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest cinnamon producing country in the international market. The presence of competing countries causes competition for completed cinnamon demand in the international market. International trade requires that each country has specialization and the ability to be able to compete for existing markets. This study analyzes the competitiveness of Indonesia's cinnamon exports and the competitors (China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar) by looking at comparative and competitive advantages along with factors that can influence them. The analysis period used in this study is from 2000 to 2017. Competitiveness analysis is measured by  using the Trade Specialization Index (TSI) and Export Competitive Index (XCI) analysis methods, while the analysis of factors that can affect competitiveness performance is analyzed using the panel data regression method. The results of this study indicated that Indonesia and the competitors have comparative advantages and tend to be cinnamon exporting countries in the International Market, besides that Indonesia and competitors (China, Vietnam, and Madagascar) have competitive advantages and cinnamon exports of these countries increase from the previous year, so that the country was able to compete for cinnamon exports on the International Market. Factors that can affect the performance of the export competitiveness of cinnamon in Indonesia and competitors are productivity, market share, export prices, and domestic consumption.

Abstract

One of government interventions to encourage the improvement of agriculture sector output is through fiscal policy in the form of government spending. Total government expenditure in provincial aggregate is used as government spending. The availability of fiscal decentralization policy provides an opportunity for the provincial government to manage the government expenditure allocation. This research aims to discover the influence of fiscal policy in Java by using the government expenditure variable and to find the influence of foreign investment, domestic investment and agricultural labor absorption toward GRDP of agriculture subsectors. This research used regression analysis of cross section SUR fixed effect panel data. The results indicate the total expenditure having significant positive effect towards GRDP of agriculture subsectors are the subsectors of food crops, plantation, livestock and fishery. Forestry subsector cannot be analyzed further because the error is not normally distributed. The absorption of labor in agriculture sector has significant negative effect towards plantation and livestock subsectors. The foreign investment has significant positive effect towards livestock subsector and domestic investment has negative significant influence towards GRDP of food crops subsector. The provincial government needs to support agriculture subsectors by allocating expenditure that will increase GRDP of agriculture subsectors and increasing foreign direct investment and domestic investment to agriculture subsectors.

The sample is determined by census with a sample size of 195. The analytical method used is descriptive method. Data obtained using interviews through questionnaires. The results showed that the characteristics of young horticultural farmers in Malang Regency were mostly in their 30s and men. The level of education of young horticultural farmers is still low and on average has 9 years of agricultural experience with low land ownership. An intensive policy is needed for young farmers in terms of land ownership. Most farmers have used cellphones or gadgets to carry out agricultural transactions. Most young horticultural farmers in Malang Regency already have good managerial capacity, but in terms of empowerment is still not optimal. The government and farmer groups need to increase their role in supporting the agriculture of young horticultural farmers to be more developed so that young farmers in Malang Regency do not leave their jobs in the agricultural sector..
