Abstract

Climate change greatly influences agricultural activities carried out by farmers in Indonesia. Farmers have begun to actively engage in organic farming, which is one of the production methods that is environmentally friendly, so that it can guarantee ecological sustainability. For this reason the study was conducted to determine the extent to which organic farming practices carried out by farmers can have implications for improving soil chemical properties and rice production. The method of this research is carried out by taking soil samples by surveying rice fields that apply organic systems and conventional systems. Data analysis using t test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that there were improvements in several soil chemical properties which included: organic C, total N, P available, K-dd and Al-dd soil, but improved soil chemical properties that were not significantly different from soil ph and soil CEC . To improve rice production, rice glucose content, root length, root volume and root dry weight there were significant improvements. Analysis of organic farming practices is important to limit the occurrence of all forms of environmental pollution that may be produced by conventional agricultural activities.

Abstract

Management of dusung nutmeg is one form of land use systems and community-based forests can provide economic benefits, ecological and socio-cultural. This study aims to describe and explain management performance (productivity, sustainability, equity and efficiency benefits) of dusung nutmeg as a traditional agroforestry system in Maluku. The results showed: dusung formation in the Moluccas through three phases, namely gardens/fields phase, aong (former mixed farms left) phase and dusung phase. Dusung have aspects in terms of economic development, environment and management is essential for the development of its performance. The results show that (1) the cost structure and revenue productivity of farmers nutmeg correlated with the number of plants grown, (2) efforts cultivating and securing is done by the owner with the help of kewang (rangers) are assigned to secure dusung and implementation of sasi, this shows the orientation of the productivity and sustainability, (3) public priorities in dusung management is commercial needs for nutmeg and cloves and subsistence for vegetables, (4) raising dusung relatively efficient if calculated by the ratio of input and output production, and institutional is looked clearly the rights associated with ownership, control, management and so on as well as the availability of and respect for the rules to be mutually agreed between dusung owners, managers, harvesters and the surrounding communities. Abstract

The management of a protection forest often faces a dilemma between the importance of conservation and the importance of the needs of the local people in the area. Managing the area will on’t be so effective and disturbed if there is only minimal participation and insufficient support in interaction from the local people. Various factors of heterogeneous people will influence the form of interaction that occurs between the people and the area. The aim of this study is to know and measure the participation of the local people in managing the protection forest and to analyse the characteristics (both individual and organizational) that influence the level of participation collectively in preserving the protected forest area. This research is designed as a survey research having the character of a descriptive co-relationship between the variable dependent i.e. Community participation and the variable of individual and organizational characters as a heterogeneous factor in protection forest area. This research population is the active community who manage the land (dusung) around the protection forest area in Gunung Nona (HLGN) in Ambon. Data analyses used tests the technical Chi square and its participation level test the co-efficient of the contingency. Results show that the characteristics (both individual and organizational) that have a close connection and influenced the level of participation in preserving the HLGN area are their knowledge about the protection forest, the scope of the authority of dusung land, the status of ownership of the dusung, the period of involvement in the organization and the relationship between the organizer and the public members in the organization. People’s participation in managing the HLGN is based on the perceived benefits and how they manage the dusung depends on their own character or morale. Key words: Participation, Heterogeneous, Dusung.

Abstract

Increasing population growth in coastal areas, resulting in increasing demand for land for settlements, plantations, aquaculture, and other uses. This causes a lot of mangrove land being damaged. This research aims to know the people's perceptions of the function and role of mangrove forests and the management of sustainable mangrove forest ecosystems. The location of sample data collection is in Pantai Bahagia Village, Muara Gembong District, West Java. The sampling technique used to assess community perceptions is a selected technique (purposive sampling) with 30 respondents. Community perception of the function and role of mangrove forests in Muara Gembong is in the high category. The community has experienced the negative impacts of mangrove forest degradation, such as tidal floods, fishpond damage, and sea water intrusion, so that the community is aware of the importance of the function and role of mangrove forests for the survival of the community in the future. Community perception of mangrove forest ecosystem management in Muara Gembong is in the high category. All losses experienced by the community, whether in the form of fishpond damage, road access, to residential houses, foster public awareness of the importance of sustainable management of mangrove forest ecosystems.Key words: Perception; Forest Management; Mangrove; Muara Gembon

Abstract

Mangrove forest ecosystems have a very important role for humans and the environment, so to prevent further damage needs to be done identification of tree species composition and structure of mangrove forest stands. For the purpose of this research is to know the composition of tree species from the level of seedling to the tree and to know the structure of its stand. Data collection methods used are Inventory of mangrove species using Indonesian mangrove determination keychain and data analysis by calculating important value index, Diversity index, relative frequency and horizontal structure analysis. The results showed that the largest tree density structure was Rhizophora mucronata of 225 trees / hectare, Avicennia marinna of 145 trees / hectare, Sonneratia alba of 65 trees / hectare and Avicennia officinalis of 65 trees / hectare and had only one crown layer namely strata A which is dominated by Rhizophora mucronata tree which has an average free height of 9 m branch with total height 12 m and diameter 29 cm. For this reason, planting efforts need to be increased to increase the number and composition for coastal protection.

Abstract

Indigenous peoples have a down-to-down knowledge of how to preserve and utilize existing forest resources. The role of indigenous peoples in the management of indigenous forest resources is essential in maintaining the viability of forest functions. For this reason this study aims to describe and explain the potential of community institutions in the management of customary forests in Kasepuhan Pasir Eurih Sindanglaya Village. The research method is case study where data is collected through interview and observation. Data analysis is done by using Situation framework approach - Structure - behavior - performance. The results show that the use of customary forest is considered open access where everybody is free to exploit the natural resources in it. Behavior shows the presence of stakeholders affecting customary forest management activities. Community performance in customary forest management shows that customary forests strongly support the welfare of indigenous peoples.

Abstract

Community access to obtain, control and regulate the use of natural resources around watersheds (DAS) will have an influence on the sustainability of the functions and roles of the watershed. This study aims to describe and explain the access of the community in the utilization of excavated C resources around the watershed. This research was conducted in May-October 2017 in the village of Cemplang, Cibungbulang, Bogor, especially in the Ciaten Cisadane Hulu sub-watershed. Data obtained through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGD) were then analyzed qualitatively using the theory of access from Ribot and Peluso. The results show that various stakeholders / actors were directly involved in natural resource utilization activities in excavation C, especially in sand mining activities in Cemplang village, among others: Village government, mining landowners / entrepreneurs and communities around the sand mining land. Each actor has different interests in the existence of a watershed both socially, economically and ecologically; as well as the power they have. Therefore, the management of the natural resources of the watershed must be carried out in a participatory and adaptive manner so that the sustainability of the watershed functions remains sustainable.access, actors, upstream Cisadane watershed, excavation C.
