Abstract

Based on preliminary observation and research finding in MAN in Tanah Datar, it was found that madrasah which have a good accreditation still have problems concerning with aspects of school management. The purposes of this research were to analyze teachers’ perception toward managerial competence of the madrasah principals in the aspects of the madrasah activities planning, organizing, leadership, actuating, and controlling. The methodology used in this research was mixed method by using the concurrent embedded model. Quantitative data was gotten from teachers of MAN in Tanah Datar while for the qualitative data was gotten from the school principals, vice school principals as well as teachers. Based on the research finding, it was found that in the madrasah activities planning was 82.11%; activities organizing was 79.50%; activities leading was 79.92%; activities actuating was 78.53%; and activities controlling was 81 %. In general, the competence of the madrasah principals of MAN in Tanah Datar was good in all aspect.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe the effect of motivation, leadership and comitment of the principal to the teacher performance at Junior High School. The research data was obtained by using questionnaire from 65 teachers. The results showed that (1) the teacher's performance was high, (2) The motivation of principal was high enough, (3) The leadership of the principal was enough, (4) The commitment of principal was high enough, (5) The motivation of principal had positive and significant effect to the teacher performance, (6) The leadership of principal had a positive and significant effect to the teacher performance, (7) The commitment of principal had positive and significant effect to the teacher performance, and (8) The motivation, leadership, and commitment of principal simultaneously influenced the teacher performance.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe about the implementation of the principal task of supervisors at SMK Negeri Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai has been implemented optimally, the process of performing the main duties of supervisors in SMK in Mentawai Islands District in the field of academic and managerial areas in accordance with predetermined programs, and obstacles faced by supervisors SMK Negeri in district Islands Mentawai in the execution of tasks in the field. The results of this study are as follows: (1) the implementation of the main task of supervisors has not been implemented optimally, 2) the process of carrying out the main task of supervisor regency in the academic field and managerial field is not in accordance with the program that has been determined and (3) there are constraints faced by school supervisors in carrying out their main tasks such as transportation and communication constraints.

Abstract

Teachers have responsibility to create and develop an effective learning material in order to facilitate the student to understand the reading content optimally. There are, it is important to develop an effective learning material by using SQ4R strategy as the solution The type of this research is R&D by using 4-D model. The sample were 42 students and 2 teachers in primary school. The result of the research indicated that the validity rate of the learning material is valid. Then upon the assessment on the implementation of lesson plan, the responses from teachers and learning participants and the observations on teaching materials indicated that the practicality rate fell to the category of highly practical. Moreover, the result of the activity of learning participants on reading comprehension indicated to be effective. Hence, it could be concluded that the developed reading comprehension learning material by using SQ4R strategy has already been valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

Results of study is a benchmark in view the success of student learning. The level of achievement of learning outcomes allegedly influenced by many factors. Study habits and is one of the factors suspected to affect learning outcomes. This study aimed to describe the contribution of the habit of learning on student learning outcomes. This study uses a quantitative approach a descriptive correlational. The study population 212, and a sample of 139 students obtained via technique. Proportional Random Sampling instruments used are instruments of learning habits, while the study results obtained from the value of student learning outcomes. Analysis of data using simple regression techniques. The research result shows that the habit of learning and learning outcomes at the high category. Contributions habit of learning to the learning outcomes 32.9%.

Abstract

The school management can mean everything pertaining to the management of the educational process to achieve the stated goals, both short-term goals, medium, or long-term goals. The purpose of term goal of this research was to determine the school management to improve the quality of education, to include: (1) Planning school programs; (2) The implementation of school programs and (3) Barriers faced. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Subjects were principals, supervisors and teachers in primary schools Boarding School Jar Pidie district. Research results found: (1) planning school programs, (2) The implementation of school programs, and (3) Barriers in planning school programs. It is expected that supervisors in order to direct and supervise principals in improving the quality of education on school program planning, program implementation and obstacles faced by appropriate, effective and efficient so that the quality of education in the schools can be improved.

Abstract

The current models of vocational school performance measurement refer to the eight National Standards of Education. They are accreditation and school seif-evaluation models, and the models are not effective yet, as they did not measure school performance from all aspects of the school life. Therefore, to measure school performance comprehensively and effectively, by using A Model of Vocational School Performance Measurement based on Balance Scorecard. The type of the research is development research. The development model procedure followed the model from Borg and Gall (2008: 570). Data collection used instrument replenishment to all school stakeholders. The collected data then were analyzed using scoring on each measurement indicator. The results obtained based on the stages of product development trial to 46 respondents. The result of study showed that the vocational school performance measurement model is very effective. The Effectiveness of model wastaken by filling questionnaires that contains of 13 statements and distributed to 46 respondents of four SMKs in Pesisir Selatan Regency. The effectiveness level of the model book is 91.24%, while the format book is 94.31%. It means that the books of the Vocational School Performance Measurement Model based on Balance Scorecard are very effective to measure the performance of vocational high schools.

Abstract

Attitude toward cheating is formed based on someone’s perspective, belief, and knowledge or information received about cheating. If the students’ attitude toward cheating ispositive, their affective evaluation tends to accept and assume that cheating is normal. The positive attitudes are more likely to be an action of approaching, liking even expecting cheating behavior to occur. Conversely, if the students’ attitude is negative, their affective evaluation tends to reject, disagree, and assume that cheating is a prohibited act and leadstheir attitude to become negative behavior. Therefore, counselors need to provide the understanding of guidance and counseling service as one of alternatives in preventing students’ cheating. This paper discusses the concept of cheating and the role of counselor to help students avoid cheating.

Abstract

In a school, principal has major contribution to lead better education. It could be assumed that a principal is the center of school policy in order to improve educational quality. Dealing with preceding explanation, a principal officially should conduct an environmental analysis in improving educational analysis. This paper presents the result of a study about environmental analysis conducted by principal of SD N 01 Koto Tangah. Data were obtained through interview, observation and documentation. The respondents were principal, school committee, teachers, and students’ parents. This paper revealed that there principal as the top leader of the school has done environmental analysis professionally. Principal involved school committee and society in shaping school vision, mission and school policy. There are two environments namely external and internal. Both of them have been analyzed by principal in order to improve educational quality particularly at SD N 01 Koto Tangah.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve students’ English achievement by developing learning model in English subject for VIII graders of SMP N 1 Uram Jaya through Directed-Project Based Learning (DPjBL) implementation. This study is designed in Research and Development (R & D) using ADDIE model development. Test instrument for finding out the effectiveness of DPjBL and also students English achievement which were then analyzed quantitatively by using T-test. The results showed that DPjBL is effective to use, it is seen from the difference in value between the pretest and post-test of the control class and the experimental class. From the results of a questionnaire filled in general, the students and teachers agreed to DPjBL learning model. The practicality of teacher book got 93. 3 and the practicality of students book got 97.0. It shows that DPjBL is an effective learning model and this learning model can increase the students' English achievement.
