Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out whether or not the use of juxtaposing pictures can improve the students’ writing ability especially in writing description. The researchers applied a pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and one group post-test design. The subject of the research was the second year students of SMAN 3 Enrekang in academic year 2017-2018. The sample consisted of 32 students of XI IPA 1. The data were collected through writing test (pretest and post-test). To find out the effectiveness of juxtaposing pictures in improving writing ability, the researcher applied t-test analysis. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The value of t-test (9.09) was greater than the t-table (2.039) and degree of freedom (df) = 31. It is concluded that juxtaposing pictures is effective in improving the students’ writing ability in writing description.

Abstract

This research shows the implementation of contextual teaching and learning conducted by the English teachers of MAN 1 Enrekang in teaching English. MAN 1 Enrekang is senior high school that is located in Enrekang regency, Sulawesi Selatan, as one of the schools where most of the teachers there implement CTL method in teaching, include teaching English. However, sometimes the students still find it difficult to understand the material being taught, especially English. This research employed descriptive qualitative method, in which the data collected and analyzed qualitatively by giving description about the phenomena or facts have been found in the field. The subjects of the research were the English teachers of MAN 1 Enrekang. They are English teachers who have implemented CTL in teaching English. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of CTL method in teaching English to the students of MAN 1 Enrekang was not totally or fully conducted. There are seven elements should be applied in teaching and learning for implementing CTL. They are constructivism, inquiry, modeling, reflection, learning community, questioning, and authentic assessment. Eventhough the teachers understood and admitted implementing CTL in teaching English, the result of the observation shows that the English teachers applied only five elements of CTL in the classroom, while there were two elements of CTL those have not been applied because of the limited time in teaching and learning process, they are constructivism and inquiry. Abstract

English course should provide concrete evidence in supporting skills in various fields of science. This research aims to determine the extent of the material provided by lecturer of English courses in teaching non-EFL students. This research was descriptive qualitative research. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews on research subjects. The subjects of this research were students at the Faculty of Sports Science, Universitas Negeri Makassar, consisting of 4 (Four) study programs: Sports Coaching Education, Physical Education. Recreation and Health, Elementary School Physical Education, and Sports Science. Researcher randomly selected ten (10) students from each study programs using purposive random sampling. Based on data from the results, twelve students (30%) thought that the most material needed in teaching English Material was Vocabulary. Ten (25%) students who thought that the most material needed was Speaking. Six (15%) students who thought that the most material needed was Listening. Five (12.5%) students who thought that the most material needed was Grammar.  Three (7.5%) students who thought that the most material needed was Writing.  Three (7.5%) students who thought that the most material needed was Reading. One (2.5%) student who thought that the most material needed was Pronunciation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the use of quizzes for students during online learning. This research is descriptive qualitative research. Data will be collected through questionnaires and interviews on research subjects. The data collected will be analyzed qualitatively to describe the phenomena that occur in the field. Based on data from the research results, there are 47 students (29%) who chose E-learning quiz as a quiz that they often use.; 34 students (22%) who chose Quizizz; 30 students (18%) who chose Google Form Quiz; 23 students (14%) who chose quiz on the website as a quiz that they often get / use in learning; 19 students (11%) who choose Kahoot as a quiz that they often get / use in learning; and five students (3%) who choose Wondershare Quiz Creator as a quiz they often get / use in learning. This study proves that all types of quizzes are very helpful for students to review previous learning materials. In addition, this quiz can attract students to increase the duration of study at home.Keywords:  Identification,  Quiz, Online Learning

Abstract

This research aims to identify the pedagogical competences of the English Teachers based on identifying the characteristics of the student. This is one of the sub-competence that must be mastered as one indicator of pedagogical competence mastery. Where one of the competence is identifying students’ characteristics. it is explained as identifying the learner characteristics related with the competence of instructors to know the condition of the students.This research was conducted by using Descriptive Evaluation method. Whereas evaluative research is the systematic collection and analysis of data about the quality, effectiveness, merit, or value of programs, products, or practices. The result of the research showed All four teachers could understand or identify their students’ cognitive ability. They understand their students, not only the good students, but also the poor students. Besides identifying the students’ cognitive ability, it is also very important for the teacher to know about the learners’ personality in order that he/she can apply appropriate way in teaching the students with the different personality.

Abstract

Abstrak. Usaha untuk meningkatkan prestasi di cabang olahraga futsal semakin berkembang sekarang ini. Ini terlihat dengan dengan semakin banyaknya peminat di setiap kejuaraan baik itu di level amatir maupun di level profesional. Di kota Makassar sendiri, hampir tiap saat kita dapat melihat pengumuman tentang akan diadakannya pertandingan futsal. Rata-rata target dari turnamen yang diadakan adalah untuk kategori pelajar tingkap pertama (SMP) dan tingkat menengah (SMA). Tentunya hal ini merupakan sesuatu hal yang positif untuk perkembangan futsal di kota Makassar. Hal utama yang masih menjadi permasalahan dalam cabang olahraga futsal khususnya mereka yang masih di usia muda yaitu kurangnya pengetahuan tentang Law of the Game dari permainan futsal itu sendiri (poin-poin besar Law of the Game). Sehingga hal ini melatarbelakangi tim untuk mengadakan suatu pelatihan yang dapat memberikan informasi tentang Law OF The Game secara utuh kepada mitra, baik itu secara teori maupun praktek langsung dilapangan. Memberikan informasi dan membahas tentang hal-hal yang tertuang dalam Law of the Game merupakan salah satu usaha yang dapat dilakukan guna mengatasi ketidaktahuan mitra mengenai Law of the Game dalam permainan futsal. Setelah mengikuti sosialisasi dan melakukan latihan dengan menerapkan Law Of the Game pertandingan futsal amandemen terbaru, para mitra merasa optimis untuk mengikuti pertandingan futsal yang akan diadakan kedepannya. Dengan bekal pengetahuan peraturan terbaru tentunya dapat memotivasi para pemain untuk bermain lebih baik tanpa perlu terganggu dengan kesalahan-kesalahan tidak perlu akibat tidak mengetahui aturan pertandingan.Kata Kunci: Olahraga, Law of the Game, Futsal

Abstract

Abstrak. Mitra Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah para penggiat olaharaga massenrempulu yang terdiri dari Atlet dan pemuda massenrempulu, kabupaten Enrekang. Permasalahan pada mitra adalah: kurangnya pengetahuan para penggiat olahraga dari massenrempulu tentang cara menggunakan kata atau kalimat bahasa inggris yang berhubungan dengan olahraga baik itu secara lisan maupun tulisan. Pendekatan yang diberikan dalam pelaksanaan pelatihan terdiri dari tiga metode pelaksanaan yang terdiri dari penyajian materi, pemberian latihan dan penberian quiz secara online. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi dari tim pelaksana, setiap penugasan yang diberikan kepada peserta pelatihan memberikan dampak yang cukup signifikan terhadap pengetahuan dan pemahaman para peserta mengenai fungsi dan penggunaan Go, Play and Do dalam bahasa Inggris yang berhubungan dengan olahraga. Peserta pelatihan yang awalnya masih memiliki kesalahan dalam menggunakan atau memasangkan kosa kata dalam bahasa inggris dapat menunjukkan antusiasme mereka dalam memahami materi tesebut dengan banyak bertanya kepada tim pengabdi. Hasil yang dicapai dalam kegiatan ini adalah (1) mitra memahami penggunaan Go, Play and Do dalam Bahasa Inggris, (2) mitra mampu membuat kalimat Bahasa Inggris dengan benar secara lisan maupun tertulis. Kata kunci: Go-Play and Do, Penggiat Olahraga, Bahasa Inggris

Abstract

This study aims to depict the ability of secondsemester students of Indonesian and Literature Study Programin Faculty of Language and Literature in Universitas NegeriMakassar regarding the subject-verb agreement in English andthe ability to make sentences in English correctly both spokenor written. The methods employed in this study werepresentation and training. The majority of the participants(90%) are able to apply their knowledge and understanding,express present tense sentences properly and correctly both inspoken and written and 10% of them still make errors.Participants activeness is indicated by their positive attitude,motivation, confidence, and responsibility in practicing anddoing their tasks, which support their knowledge andunderstanding in subject-verb agreement materials. Based onthe observations and evaluation, each assignment given to thetraining participants had a significant impact on theirknowledge and understanding of the suitability between thesubject and the predicate in English sentence structure.

Abstract

Kegiatan Kampus mengajar mempunyai peran yang sangat penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan pada sekolah dasar dan sekolah menengah. Dengan adanya program ini, Sekolah mendapatkan kekuatan baru untuk bangkit dalam upaya menata kembali proses pembelajaran setelah beberapa waktu terkena pandemi Covid 19. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan beberapa langkah mulai dari tahap pembekalan atau pelatihan, perancangan dan pelaksanaan program serta tahap akhir yaitu evaluasi program. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan perkembangan yang signifikan yang dialami oleh pihak sekolah khususnya dalam menata dan mengatur administrasi di sekolah baik yang berhubungan dengan sarana dan prasarana maupun yang berhubungan dengan proses pembelajaran yang berlangsung. Kegiatan administrasi sekolah ini membuat suasana belajar kembali hidup setelah terdampak Covid 19.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada para peserta mengenai pentingnya menguasai Bahasa Inggris dalam menyampaikan arahan atau instruksi dalam memberikan pelatihan bidang olahraga khususnya olahraga Sepakbola. Adanya beberapa kosakata atau vocabulary yang harus dilafalkan dan disampaikan serta harus dipahami dengan benar oleh para peserta dalam melatih cabang olahraga agar maksud dan tujuan dalam memberikan arahan serta petunjuk bisa dipahami dengan baik oleh para atlet atau pemain olahraga. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah dengan menggunakan metode tatap muka. Hasil dari pengabdian ini adalah para peserta mendapat memahami beberapa istilah Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan dalam olahraga sepakbola, yang dalam kajian linguistik disebut dengan English for Specific Purposes dalam hal ini English for Sport. Para peserta juga dapat melafalkan dengan benar beberapa istilah dalam Bahasa Inggris dengan benar. Hal ini sangat mendukung kompetensi yang dimiliki baik itu pelatih maupun para pemain atau atlet. Apalagi olahraga sekarang ini sudah banyak mendapat sentuhan dari para pelatih maupun pemain asing. Maka sangat diperlukan kehadiran peran Bahasa Inggris dalam mempermudah transfer pengetahuan dalam proses pelatihan.
