Abstract

DOI: 10.17014/ijog.v5i3.102The Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey has been carried out around the Sidoarjo mud eruption. The aim of the survey is to see how far the development of shallow subsurface geological condition related to the eruptions that frequently occur around the main eruption. Ground Probing Radar is one of the geophysical method which is developed as a tool for a relatively shallow and detailed subsurface geological survey. The use of GPR method is not different with the seismic reflection method. The penetration depth of GPR method depends on electric properties of subsurface geological condition such as electric conductivity and dielectric constant. Both of these properties are related to physical properties of soil or rock such as water content and salinity. The result of the survey shows that at a shallow depth the geological structure such as fold, fault, and joint is frequently seen. Based on these results, the GPR method is very useful to decide the indication of potential area of small mud intrusion, so that the result can be used to help the mitigation plan.

Abstract

A general assumption about reading is that students improve their reading ability by reading a lot. This research was conducted to explain the use of extensive reading and aimed to figure out its implementation in improving students’ reading readability by using the class action research technique. The data of this research relates to the students ‘reading progress shown in their reading reports: spoken and written summary, reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery and their participation. The strategy was evolved in the continuity of reading. Students were encouraged to read extensively in and outside class. The findings indicated that the implementation could improve students’ reading readability. This attainment demonstrated that students’ reading readabilityis frosted through the continuity of reading. Other facts showed that students enjoyed reading. Students’ curiosity was also a significant factor. Their high curiosity explained why students continued reading though they realized that materials they read were difficult enough. Students’ self-confidence was also built as they were required to write a retelling story and to share their previous reading. Instead of their retelling and summarizing, students felt to be appreciated as readers. This appreciation indirectly helped students to improve the reading fondness.

Abstract

Car oil replacement is one of a must to do list to keeping car’s performance.  In car oil replacement service term, not all shop has a standard. Car oil replacement time reminder service is still done manually, so that sometimes customers forgot to replace the car oil in time. Promo information only does setting banners in the shop. This resulted process of service provide is not optimal. It cause services is not provided optimally, where it will impact on shop and customer’s loss. Based on this issue, car oil replacement service information system has been made to help provide recommendations appropriate standards as specified for car oil replacement service. This system also can be used to support car oil replacement reminder and booking service which will be done using Short Message Service (SMS).

Abstract

Many of disasters are related to electrical power systems. They affect human life and economy. In order to reduce the negative impacts caused by the failure of electricity power system due to disasters and to create a robust electrical power system, selecting the best relay of electricity power is a must. This study identified the best protective relay of electrical power systems of PLN in Surakarta region by applying analytic hierarchy process (AHP), one of MCDM approaches, combined with fuzzy logic. Extent analysis approach was implemented to derive priorities of various criteria, sub-criteria and alternatives. Three relays being considered in the selection process are electromagnetic relay, digital relay and static relay. Four criteria in this study are techno-economy, fault frequency, protection of transmission line and advantage of relay over others. Meanwhile, five sub-criteria for each criterion are reliability, selectivity, sensitivity, working speed and efficient. Based on the criteria and sub-criteria, it can be inferred that in terms of four working areas of PLN management in Surakarta region, digital relay is seen as the best choice of relays.

Abstract

Koya Barat village is one of the areas in Jayapura City which has high incidence of malaria. Malaria cases in this region are affected by local conditions, including the climate and environment of aquatic habitats. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of climatic factors and habitat characteristics on Anopheleslarval density in Koya Barat village. The method used is field observation with descriptive and statistical analysis approach. The results showed that there are four parameters that significantly affect on larval density, namely rainfall, air temperature, water temperature and salinity. The relationship between rainfall with the larval density in freshwater permanent habitat is negative linear. While in brackish water permanent habitat and semi permanent habitat is non-linear (2nd order polynomial). The relationship between air temperature, water temperature and salinity with the larval density in freshwater habitat are positive linear, while in brackish water habitat and semi permanent habitat are negative linear.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Morbidity and mortality due to diabetes are associated with the development of various microvascular complications (retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy) and macrovascular complications (coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease). This study aimed to examine the determinants of biopsychosocial macro and microvascular complications in patients with type 2 DM at Dr. Moewardi Surakarta.Subjects and Method: This was an analytic observational with a case-control design. The study was conducted at Dr. Moewardi, Surakarta, Central Java, from January to March 2018. A sample of 75 Type 2 DM cases with complication and 75 Type 2 DM cases without complication was selected for this study by fixed disease sampling. The dependent variables were macro and microvascular complications. The independent variables were body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, quality of life, depression, duration of disease, physical activity, diet, medication adherence, health financing, and routine blood sample. Clinical data were taken from medical record. The data of other variables were collected by a set of pre-tested questionnaire. Logistic regression was employed for data analysis. Results: The risk of macro and microvascular complications in type 2 DM patients increased with high BMI (OR= 22.00; 95% CI= 7.50 to 64.52, p<0.001), poor quality of life (OR= 7.06; CI 95%= 3.51 to 14.16, p<0.001), depression (OR= 3.30; 95% CI= 1.39 to 7.79, p= 0.007), longer duration of disease (OR= 9.71; 95% CI= 2.79 to 33.71, p<0.001), lack of physical activity (OR= 8.16; 95% CI= 1.23 to 53.93, p=0.029), poor diet (OR= 3.58; 95% CI= 1.39 to 9.18, p=0.008), poor medication adherence (OR= 4.54; 95% CI= 1.71 to 12.05, p=0.002), and irregular blood sample control (OR= 5.80; 95% CI= 1.97 to 14.65, p=0.001).Conclusion: The risk of macro and microvascular complications in patients with type 2 DM is determined by BMI, quality of life, depression, duration of disease, physical activity, diet, medication adherence, and blood sample control. Keywords: biopsychosocial, macrovascular, microvascular, complications, type 2 DMCorrespondence: Handoko.
