Abstract

Background: High school students at final year commonly experience anxiety when preparing the National Examination. Many students will eventually take more intensive additional courses offered by other institutions outside their schools as part of efforts to anticipate disappointing results of the examination. This study aimed to seek the rela-tionship between attendance for intensive external course with anxiety degree among final year students of SMA Negeri 8 Solo preparing the 2012 National Examination. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2012 at SMA N 8 Solo. The 12th grade students were purposively sampled based on certain criteria. Subjects were asked to give informed consent and to complete a biodata form and T-MAS questionnaire which were administered 15 minutes before the classes dismissed. Data were analyzed using t-independent test. Results: This study showed that the anxiety scores of students taking and not taking external course differed significantly (t = -33,4; p<0,001). Students not attending an intensive external course were more anxious than their counterparts. Conclusions: Attendance for an intensive external course was related to anxiety among the 12th grade students of SMA N 8 Solo preparing the National Examination. Abstract

Background: Age factor holds crucial cause of health level and the wealth of pregnant mother and the baby. In young age, the development of reproduction organs and the physiological function is not optimal yet, also the emotional and psychological phase of the mother is not mature enough. Therefore in pregnancy, the mother is not yet able to respond her pregnancy completely and also there often occurs complication. Three pregnancy complications that become the main cause of mother’s death in obstetric section are bleeding, infection, and pregnancy hypertension (preeclampsia). Preeclampsia is a disorder of multi organ that is very distinct in pregnancy, which is noted as occurrence of hypertension and proteinuria in pregnancy age above 20 weeks. This research purpose for analyzing the relation between the age of primigravida with the occurrence of severe preeclampsia in RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Methods: This research is observational analytic with cross-sectional. Research is done in April-June 2012 in RSUD Dr. Moewardi section Obstetrics and Gynecology. The taking of sample is done with the way of purposive sampling. This research got 60 samples consisted of 30 samples age < 20 years old and 30 samples age 20-35 years old with the diagnosis of severe preeclampsia 42 samples. The data which is got then analyzed with the use of statistic test Spearman. Results: The risk factors of severe preeklampsia in RSUD Dr. Moewardi are the age and the graduation of primigravida. The statistic test shows there is a significant relation between the age of primigravida with the occurrence severe preeclampsia (p ≤ 0.05) Conclusions: There was a significant relation between the age of primigravida with the occurrence severe preeclampsia (p ­= 0.024) whereas the strength of the positive correlation is weak (r = 0.291) Keywords: primigravida’s age, severe preeclampsia.

Abstract

Background:Cardio Pulmonary Resusitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure, performed in an effort to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest. Untill now, CPR is one of the most important procedure in first aid of heart attack, also in respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest due to trauma. CPR need to be performed in a fast and effective way, therefore knowledge of CPR and confidence in perform CPR is needed. This research aims to analyze the relationship beetwen medical student’s of Sebelas Maret University knowledge in CPR with student’s confidence in performing a rescue. Methods:The research was an analytical survey with cross sectional approach implemented in May-June 2013 in Faculty of Medicine Sebelas Maret University. The number of samples in this study was 129 students with the inclusion and exclusion criteria and the samples sampling by simple random sampling. Dependent variable was student’s confidence in performing a rescue and independent variable was student’s knowledge in CPR. This research was conducted with questionnaires by samples and then the data were analyzed by Pearson Correlation. Results:This research showed significant relationship beetwen student knowledge in CPR and students confidence in performing a rescue (p = 0.000).This study showed that 93 students (72.09%) didn’t know the exact location of chest compression, 21 students (16.27%) didn’t know the right recovery position for patient, 129 students (100%) wanted to gain more training and knowledge in CPR, 42 respondents (32.55%) acknowledged that they were still not able to perform CPR effectively, and 40 students (31%) stated that they were not able to perform breathing support in an accurate and effective way. Conclusions:The relationship beetwen medical student’s of Sebelas Maret University knowledge in cardio pulmonary resusitation with student’s confidence in performing a rescue were significant. Abstract

Background:People who enters early adulthood phase is considered capable, both physically and mentally, to get married and having children. Before holding their marriage everyone should have basic knowledge and good attitude of reproductive health. But the stigma of gender makes most people think that the awareness of reproduction health only becomes a liability for women. This study aimed to determine whether there was difference in reproductive health awareness among grooms and brides in Surakarta. Methods:This study was analytic observational study used cross-sectional design. Total of 70 subjects consisted of 35 prospective grooms and 35 brides, were selected by purposive sampling method. It had been done in Office of Religious Affair of five sub districts in Surakarta. The data were collected by interview used a set of questionnaire and analyzed byusingIndependent Sample T- test and Two Way Anova. Results:This study showedthe mean score on the reproductive health awareness for prospective grooms were 21.37 ± 2.82 and for the prospective brideswere 22.85 ± 3.05. Independent Sample T-Test showed p = 0.038. Conclusions:There was a difference of reproductive health awareness between the prospective groom and bride. Reproductive health awareness of prospective bride was better than the prospective groom. Keywords:Awareness, reproductive health, prospective groom and bride

Abstract

Background: The incidence of sexual abuse in Indonesia increases every year. However, most cases of sexual abuse are often not revealed due to lack of knowledge. Based on the theory, education was one of the factors that affect knowledge of people or families. The aim of this study was to analyze association between parent’s education levels with knowledge about sexual abuse on adolescent. Methods: This study was an observational study with cross sectional design. This study used 76 samples of 7th grade student’s parents from two public junior high schools in Surakarta which was taken by cluster sampling. The level of parent’s education and knowledge were collected through a questionnaire. The association between parent’s education levels with knowledge was analyzed by Spearman Rho correlation test. Results: The number of 76 respondents, 11 respondents (14.5%) had low education level, 55 respondents (72.3%) had moderate education level, and 10 respondents (13.2%) had high education level. The distribution of respondent’s knowledge was 66 respondents (86.85%) had good knowledge, 9 respondents (11.85%) had sufficient knowledge, and 1 respondent (1.3%) had less knowledge. Spearman Rho analysis of test results obtained by the value of rs = 0.514 (p = 0.000) which meant that there were 51.4% parent’s education level have positive correlation with knowledge about sexual abuse on adolescent and 48.6% knowledge about sexual abuse on adolescent was influencedby another factors. This value indicated that there was moderate association between education levels with knowledge about sexual abuse on adolescent. Conclusion: The association between parent’s education level with  knowledge about sexual abuse on adolescent in Surakarta was significant (p = 0.000, rs = 0.514). Abstract

Background:Family planningis one of policy and strategy from government to handle demoghraphic problem in Indonesia. Based on the theory, knowledge is an important domain to form someone attitudes and the attitude can be formed based on knowledge is willingness. The objective of this study is to identify association between knowledge about family planning with the prospective groom’s willingness to be an acceptorin Surakarta. Methods:This study was an observasional analitic with cross sectional design. Seventy subjects from five Departement of Religion Office (KUA) in Surakarta fulfilled the inclution criteria, were selected by purposive sampling method.Knowledge about family planning and prospective groom’s willingness to be an acceptor were collected through a questionnaire. The association between knowledge about family planning with prospective groom’s willingness to be an acceptor were analyzed by Chi Square. The power of association between variables were analyzed by Contingency Coefficient. Results:There were, 8 subjects (11.4%) had good knowledge, 27 subjects (38.6%) had enough knowledge, and 35 subjects (50%) had less knowledge. Twenty two subjects (31.4%) wanted to be an acceptor in the future and forty eight subjects (68.6%) did not want to be an acceptor in the future. Chi square test revealed significant assosiciation between knowledge about family planning with prospective groom’s willingness to be an acceptor (p = 0.001). Conclusions: There wasassociation between knowledge about family planning with prospective groom’s willingness to be an acceptor in Surakarta. Keywords:Knowledege, Family Planning, Acceptor

Abstract

Background: Pneumonia is public health problem because of the high mortality rate, especially in infants and toddlers. This is caused by several factors, one of which is social and economic. Socio economic conditions will affect the health and disease patterns. This study aims to determine the relationship of socio economic factors to the incidence of pneumonia in children under five years (Toddlers) in Surakarta.   Methods: This study was an observational study with cross-sectional design of which was held in March-April 2013 in the Balai Besar Kesehatan Paru Masyarakat (BBKPM). There were 60 subjects were taken by purposive-quota sampling method. The elderly subjects have been asked to fill out the form identity, written informed consent and questionnaires. Then the results of the questionnaire were tested with Chi Square through SPSS 17.0 for Windows. Results: The survey on respondents of maternal education were below the high school amounted to 38 respondens (63.33%) and 22 respondens (36.37%) above the high school. Occupational parents work, was privately held with non civil servant 57 people (95.00%) while a civil servant with 3 people (5.00%). As for the family income was below the minimum wage amounted to 32 people (53.33%) and above the minimum wage amounted to 28 people (46.67%). The analysis with Chi Square showed no association of maternal education (p = 0.072), family income (p = 0.194), and the work of parents (p = 0.350) with the incidence of pneumonia in infants. Conclusions: There was no relationship of socio economic factors (maternal education, parental employment and family income) with the incidence of pneumonia in young children in Surakarta. Abstract

Background: Somatization disorder is the presence of somatic complaints (physic) which can not be found the adequate medical explanation. Anxiety is a feeling disorder which characterized by a feeling of fear or concern that deep and sustained. Anxiety can occur in the fourth semester students. This research aims to find out is there any difference of the somatization tendencies between semester IV students who have high and low levels of anxiety in Medical Faculty of Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. Methods: This was an analytic observational research with case-control design. The subject were fourth semester students in Medical Faculty of Sebelas Maret University who meet established criteria. The sampling technique using total sampling of a large population of 237 people. The data analysed by using SPSS for Windows version 17.0 programme with the normality test by Shapiro-Wilk continued by Mann-Whitney because the data that taken was not normal distribution. Results: Students with high anxiety level was obtained an average IRS score of 15.75 and SD 6.883. Students with low anxiety level was obtained an average IRS score of 5.33 and SD 3.467. The difference of somatization tendencies between semester IV students who had high and low levels of anxiety generate significant value (p = 0.000) Conclusions: There were difference of somatization tendencies which statistically significant betweet semester IV students who had high and low levels of anxiety. Students who had high level of anxiety are more likely to experience somatization compared to students who had low level of anxiety. Abstract

Background: Smoking was a bad habit that has been a problem throughout the world both in developed and developing countries. Primary Health Research mentioned that 27.2% smokers were male students and moreover smoking habit of students was followed by staying up late at night. Smokers who did smoke activity at night have higher risk of experiencing sleep disturbances than smokers who did smoke activity during the day. Approximately 20% to 50% adults per year report sleep disturbance fulfillment and about 17% had serious sleep disturbance fulfillment experience. The current prevalence of insomnia according to DSM-IV criteria in adolescents showed 10.7%. These number would be increase along with the increase of age and contributing factors like smoking. This study aims to determine the difference of sleep quality between smoker and non-smoker college student in the Faculty of Letter and Art Sebelas Maret University. Method: Observational analytic with cross sectional method approach. Samples taken by Purposive Random Sampling method. The number of sample was 100 consisted of 50 male smoker students and 50 male non-smoker students. This research instrument was smoking activity questionnaire, LMMPI questionnaire and PSQI questionnaire. Data analysis done with independent T-test. Result: The results showed 39 (64%) samples of male smoker students had poor sleep quality, and 11 (28,2%) samples of male smoker students had good sleep quality. While the male non-smoker 28 (71,8%) samples had good sleep quality and 22 (36%) samples of male non-smokers students had poor sleep quality. T Count value (-3.487) < t table value (-1.661) with p = 0.001. Conclusion: There was difference in the sleep quality between smoker and non-smoker college student in the Faculty of Letter and Art Sebelas Maret University (p = 0.001). Some smoker college student had poor sleep quality while non-smoker college student had good sleep quality. Keywords: Smoker, Non- smoker, sleep quality.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety disorder have been reported to be associate with increased rates of smoking, increased consumption of cigarettes per smoker, and lower rates of smoking cessation than non-anxiety disordered control groups. In addition, increased anxiety symptoms appear to be correlated with increased rates of smoking. This study aimed to analyze the differences of anxiety level between smoking student and non-smoking student of Faculty Letter and Fine Arts Sebelas Maret University. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. The study sample totaled 100 students, between 50 smoking students and 50 non-smoking students of Faculty Letter and Fine Arts Sebelas Maret University class of 2008-2013 which were randomly drawn by purposive sampling technique and continued with simple random sampling. Each respondent was given one standard questionnaire of TMAS (Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale), L-MMPI (Lie-scale Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), and standard questionnaire of smokers. The TMAS questionnaire consisting of 50 “yes” or “no” option questions, L-MMPI questionnaire consisting of 10 “yes” or “no” option questions, and smokers questionnaire consisting of 3 multiple choice questions. The research data were tested with the Chi Square test, and would be continued with the Regression Linier test (α=0,1). Result: There were 13 smoker students had not have anxiety disorder, 10 smoker students had low anxiety disorder, 25 smoker students had moderate anxiety disorder, and 2 smoker students had high anxiety disorder. While 31 non-smoker students had not have anxiety disorder, 10 non-smoker students had low anxiety disorder, 9 non-smoker students who had moderate anxiety disorder, there were not found non-smoker student had high anxiety disorder. From the Chi Square test resulted p<0.1 (p=0.001) and would be continued with Regression Linier. From the test result showed correlation coefficients (r) in the amount of 0.411. Conclusion: There was a differences anxiety level between smoking students and non-smoking students of Faculty Letter and Fine Art Sebelas Maret University. Tobacco consumption had a moderate relationship with anxiety level. Heavier smoking on smoker student proved to be increasing anxiety level.
